Franklin High Soccer teams win

Hockomock Sports reports that both the FHS boys and girls soccer teams won when they played their respective teams from Mansfield in action on Friday.

Boys Soccer

Heading into Friday afternoon’s game with Mansfield, Franklin knew that it needed just a point to clinch a share of a fourth straight Kelley-Rex division title. But the Panthers were also facing an opponent that needed a point to keep its postseason hopes alive and were not about to give the result to the league leaders.
Despite intense pressure from the Hornets in the second half, Austin Kent’s first half goal would be enough for Franklin in a 1-0 win at Pisini Field. It was Franklin’s 11th clean sheet of the season and extended its unbeaten run to 14 games since the opening game loss to Oliver Ames.

“It’s not the prettiest but it’s a good win and we’ll take it,” said Franklin coach Fran Bositis.

Girls Soccer

Franklin scored two goals just over a minute apart at the end of the first half and crept closer to another Kelley-Rex crown with a 2-1 win over Mansfield.
Junior Victoria Stowell set up the game's opening goal in the 35th minute and then scored herself just 65 seconds later.
"[Mansfield's] always a very good team," Franklin head coach Tom Geysen said. "I said to [Mansfield coach] Kevin [Smith], we're mirror images of each other as far as the athletes go, the style of play, the aggressiveness, the skill level, we're very evenly matched. We were the first time and we were this time. I hope we don't have to see them in the tournament."
