Community Comes Together-Giving Tree Opportunity Available at the Hockomock Area YMCA Branches this week

The YMCA is a cause for strengthening community, committed every day to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Through the generosity of donors to the YMCA’s annual campaign, more than 15,000 local children and families last year benefitted from a Y experience. From child care, teen programs and summer camps, to LIVESTRONG at the Y and member assistance, the Y believes everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Currently, the Hockomock Area YMCA has Holiday Giving Trees on display in their lobbies and encourages the public to join the spirit of social responsibility by bringing gifts to homes this Christmas.

“What do you say to someone who changes a family’s world?” starts a letter received by the Y. One of the families the Hockomock Area YMCA has had the privilege to serve went on to say, “Thank you so much for your consideration in further helping my husband and I give our kids a Christmas. It has been such a struggle for us these past couple of years. Thank you so much for all of your help, and God bless you all.”

Families truly appreciate your assistance, especially at this giving time of year.

Please consider participating as follows:

Pick up a tag from a giving tree by visiting your local branch at the Hockomock Area YMCA:
Bernon Family Branch (FR) – 45 Forge Hill Road, Franklin, MA 02038
Invensys Foxboro Branch (FX) – 67 Mechanic Street, Foxboro, MA 02035
North Attleboro Branch (NA) – 300 Elmwood St., North Attleboro, MA 02760

Return unwrapped gifts with tag to the YMCA Member Service Desks by Dec. 5th.

For further information, please contact your branch’s Member Service Team: Franklin Branch: 508-528-8708; North Attleboro Branch: 508-695-7001; Invensys Foxboro Branch: 508-543-2523.

“It’s amazing how much we get donated from people”

According to Executive Director Erin Lynch, between Thanksgiving and New Year's the pantry will see 2,000 individual visits.
“It might have to do with people trying to save money to buy gifts, a tree or other things,” Weiss said. “Whatever the need is, we find the food pantry more busy this time of year.”
Lynch said during the winter months heating and electric bills tend to go up, which also contributes to the greater need.
Last week, the Franklin Food Pantry put together nearly 200 Thanksgiving bags filled with three different vegetables, mashed potatoes, stuffing, pie crust and filling, cookies, brownies and turkey.

Franklin Art Association: December Newsletter

The Franklin Art Association has published their newsletter for December.

President Sue Sheridan writes:

Dear Members and Friends,
What a wonderful show at Tri-County!! I have to say..... WE KNOW WHAT WE’RE DOING!!! I looked around the school at about 7 PM Friday night, and saw the show practically all set up. That’s only 3 hours friends! Everyone working together to pull off yet another fabulous FAA event. A big thank you to everyone involved. I am so proud of the spirit of volunteerism in our group!
The show was well attended, with a steady stream of visitors both Saturday and Sunday. Preliminary numbers are in, and they look very good. We raised $1,460 for the scholarship fund, which includes $315 from the sale of photos and other donated items from Dick Cook. So we have the 2015 scholarship covered, and almost half of the 2016 scholarship as well. We had almost $2,500 in sales of artworks, small works and bin items. The expenses have not been tallied up yet. We’ll have the complete figures to share with you at the January meeting.
As I write this, with Thanksgiving a few days away, I pause to be mindful of all the gifts that life has given me. May you all have a wondrous holiday season, sharing all the moments with family and friends that make life worth living. And if you’re really good, maybe you just might get some nifty art supplies in your stocking this year!
Hope to see you at the Holiday Party!

Warm regards,
Sue Sheridan President
