In the News: FinCom capital budget, Kraft and Dean team up


The town’s director of public facilities in his annual capital budget has asked for more than $30,000 to scrap the portable classrooms at Davis Thayer Elementary School, seven years after the School Committee declared them surplus. 
Davis Thayer and John F. Kennedy are the only elementary schools in the district that still house portable classrooms. 
The 19 classrooms were installed in the mid- and late-1990s during a period of increasing enrollment in the district. The deteriorating units have long surpassed their 10-year life expectancy. Two years ago, the town removed the portable classrooms at Jefferson Elementary School.

A newly announced partnership between Dean College and the Kraft Group will allow students to study the business of sports and entertainment management under the company’s executives — with Gillette Stadium serving as one of their classrooms. 
Dean said Wednesday that it had teamed with the Kraft Group, owner of the New England Patriots and New England Revolution, to establish the Center for Business, Entertainment and Sport Management. 
The agreement will create new degree programs in arts and entertainment management, business, media studies, communications, security management, sports management, and sports and fitness studies, including courses taught by Kraft Group executives and Dean professors at Gillette Stadium and the downtown campus.
