Franklin High School's Eian Bain named Patriots High School Coach of the Week

via the New England Patriots:
"With a 28-14 victory over Brockton on Friday Night, Franklin High School’s Eian Bain has been named this week’s New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week.

Franklin continued to impress in the MIAA Division I South semifinals, taking advantage of a breakout second quarter performance to propel them to a win over Brockton. The Panthers scored 21 points in the second quarter and added another touchdown in the third to separate themselves from the Boxers in the Division I South playoffs for the second consecutive season. The victory snapped a four-game winning streak for the Boxers. Senior quarterback Thomas Gasbarro established himself as a dual-threat in the game, completing 15-of-21 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 35 yards and another touchdown on the ground.

With the win, Franklin High School moved to 7-2 on the year and advanced to the final round of the MIAA Division I South playoffs. They’ll look to push their winning streak to five games and capture the Division I South finals title when they face off against Catholic Memorial on Friday night.

Patriots and Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Andre Tippett, now the team’s executive director of community affairs, met with the Franklin players and coaching staff Tuesday afternoon to present the football program with a $1,000 donation on behalf of the Patriots Foundation, in honor of Coach Bain. The visit and check presentation will be featured on the Patriots weekly television show, “Patriots All Access,” which airs on Friday night at 7 p.m. on WBZ-TV in Boston and will be available immediately after on Patriots.com."

In the News: Superfan at Benchmark Senior Living; health costs help drive school budgets

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

Superfan at Benchmark Senior Living
"Even when he was on the field, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was always present at Benchmark Senior Living, thanks to one superfan who witnessed four Super Bowls while working for the organization.
Program Director Lois Abramo unfailingly places her life-size cardboard cutout of Gronk in the main room any time the Patriots play, both for good luck and to remind her of the eight years she spent working for the team.
The Norfolk resident and past season ticket holder worked at the Patriots Hall of Fame museum at Gillette Stadium from 2010 to last May. She coordinated field trips, provided tours and had the chance to meet many of the players.
Many people, she said, don’t know the museum exists, though busloads of students on field trips come through the doors nearly every day."

health costs help drive school budgets
"Massachusetts residents have become accustomed to watching local school budgets increase over the years.
The annual growth -- somewhat routine -- is typically chalked up as reasonable, and there’s not much pushback in a state where education performance repeatedly ranks No. 1 in the nation.
One of the most notable drivers of cost, however, is something not typically found in a classroom -- health insurance.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, or DESE, tracks school expenditures each year, including public funding, grants, private donations and revolving accounts."

In the News: Franklin has a 'cultural district'; Franklin Patriot fans at Arrowhead

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

Franklin Cultural District

"After five years of hard work, the Franklin Cultural District was officially recognized by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
As part of an effort led by the Franklin Cultural District Committee, the town became the 46th cultural district in the state. Massachusetts has more state-designated cultural districts than any other state.
“The population here just really supports art and culture,” said Cultural District Committee member and Franklin Cultural Council Chairman Stacey David. “It’s something that people want and they look for. It’s something that the state government really supports, and it’s really something to be proud of.”
A state-sanctioned cultural district opens up artistic and economic development opportunities, town officials have said. The designation not only boosts Franklin’s reputation in the art world, it may lead to grants that may fuel other projects."

Franklin Patriot fans at Arrowhead

"A pair of dedicated New England Patriots fans may have helped their team win the AFC Division Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The team is now headed to its fourth Super Bowl in five years.
Aaron Gouveia, 39, and his father Bill, 62, both of Franklin, traveled to the Midwest city to cheer on their beloved Patriots in Arrowhead Stadium. And when they were unexpectedly invited to a pre-game tour of the field, they decided to take full advantage of the opportunity.
“We didn’t know we were going to be on the field,” Aaron Gouveia said. “But I had my boots packed away from the last time I was at Gillette (Stadium) so I scooped a little (dirt) out, put it in my pocket and when we got on the field I dropped some of it. It was our makeshift idea of ‘home-field advantage’”
Dirt, lucky pennies, and going without a jacket in 20-degree weather were all part of the pair’s winning game strategy. And an attentive member of the Patriots organization unknowingly became a co-conspirator."

“It was great to see the smiles on the children’s faces when they saw Pat Patriot walk through the gate and onto the field,” said Ryan Jette, director of Franklin Recreation. “He was full of energy and very engaging with all of our players. He even threw passes and ran plays with the teams. I especially enjoyed when he sat in the equipment cart and let the kids wheel him around the field. A huge thank you to the New England Patriots and the Kraft Group for their support. Pat was a wonderful addition to this year’s NFL Flag Football Finale.”

The Franklin NFL Flag Football program was established by Franklin Recreation in 1999 and has grown from 24 children in its first year to 498 children registered in 2016. The league includes six 6-year-old teams, six 7-year-old teams, ten 8 and 9-year-old teams, twelve 10 and 11-year-old teams and six 12 to 14-year-old teams. The 14-week season wrapped up on Nov. 8.

Addressing the young people at the announcement, Ninkovich reminisced, “From the time I arrived in New England in 2009, I’ve been a part of the Hockomock Area YMCA’s Legends Ball every year. It doesn’t seem real because I don’t consider myself to be a legend.”

Praising the YMCA, Ninkovich noted, “What the Y stands for in the community and what they’ve been able to do are remarkable. I remember being 10 years old and playing basketball at my local YMCA. Having the Y as a place to go, it meant a lot to me.” Rob Ninkovich and his family are members of the Hockomock Area YMCA and continued, “I’m a strong supporter of the Hockomock Area YMCA and what they are able to do for all kids. I’m honored to accept this award and looking forward to Legends Ball this year.”

Rob is a great friend and partner of our Y and his involvement has had a tremendous impact on local children and families,” said Ed Hurley, Hockomock Area YMCA President & CEO. “Rob always takes time out to support our programs and the kids are always so excited to see him. Rob is a true champion on and off the field.”

At this announcement, Ninkovich was surrounded by members of the Integration Initiative’s Flag Football Team as well as the VIP Club (Volunteerism through Inclusive Partnerships).

"There's no way to lose when you are giving back to the community"

When Bob and Tricia Flynn, owners of Team Fitness/CrossFit Franklin, donated a New England Patriots game package for a raffle to benefit the Franklin Food Pantry, Bob called it a "win-win."

"There's no way to lose when you are giving back to the community," he said. "One hundred percent of the proceeds raised through the raffle goes directly to the Franklin Food Pantry to serve our neighbors in need. If it means that more families will have food on their tables, and fewer kids will go to bed at night hungry, we have helped make a difference."

There's still time to take a shot at purchasing the winning ticket to catch the Patriots vs. Bills game at Gillette Stadium on Monday, November 23 at 8:30 p.m.! Here are the details for this amazing game package:

  • 5 club level seats
  • Parking pass included
  • A total value of $3000!
  • Raffle tickets are $25 each, 5 for $100, or 12 for $200
  • Drawing is Sunday, November 15 at 6 p.m.
