Why have multiple calendars?
There is a Cultural events calendar upon which other community events are layered to create the Community calendar.

Respectfully, the Library and Senior Center calendars are too full of events to include all their events so we tend to focus on the major events. Town and School meetings are also kept separate. Links for all the calendars are shared here:

Great Night @ The Museum Gala (photo essay)

Franklin moms with a mission, Erin Gallagher and Meg Hagen, were joined by a healthy sized group of supporters at their Children's Museum of Franklin fund raising Gala on Thursday night at THE BLACK BOX.

During an interlude of music and food, they shared a brief video highlighting their first donation, happy faces, and youthful activities from their mobile museums. They were also able to confirm that they are in "active negotiations" to open in a space in Franklin in the Fall but were unable to reveal more than that.

THE BLACK BOX served the mobile museum and gala purpose delightfully. Space was allocated for tables for guest to eat, drink and converse. There was a delicious spread of food from 3 Restaurant Catering, accompanied by desserts from Birchwood Cafe & Bakery. A few of the mobile creative play stations were set up for the adults to try out.

The table centerpieces were in the fancy and playful theme. My grandson would have been playing with the magna tiles all night had he been there

The James Montgomery Band Returns to THE BLACK BOX - Friday, April 12

THE BLACK BOX will welcome back The James Montgomery Band on Friday, April 12 at 7:30 PM with The DayBreakers

In 1970, while attending Boston University, Montgomery formed The James Montgomery Band. His inimitable harmonica playing combined with his incredibly energetic live shows led to the band's quick ascension on the New England music scene. Within two years, The James Montgomery band was among the hottest acts in Boston along with J. Geils and Aerosmith, and they were quickly signed to a multi-album deal with Capricorn Records.

Since that time, James has recorded six albums. His first, "First Time Out" has been remastered and re-released by MRG/Capricorn. Other include "James Montgomery Band" on Island Records which was number nine on Billboard's national playlist, "Duck Fever" with members of the David Letterman Band, "Live Trax," with the Uptown Horns (the Rolling Stones' horn section), and his release on Tone-Cool, "The Oven Is On."

Montgomery has toured with many major artists, including Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, the Allman Brothers, Steve Miller, and others. He has jammed on stage with B.B.King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Jr. Wells, James Cotton, Charlie Daniels, Bonnie Raitt, Greg Allman, Laverne Baker, Patti LaBelle, and Peter Wolf among others, including an impromptu session with Mick Jagger at New York's "Trax." Over the years, Montgomery's band has been a springboard for many musicians. Members of his band have included Billy Squire, Wayne Kramer (MC-5), Jeff Golub (Rod Stewart), Jim McCarty (Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels), Nunzio Signore (Bo Diddley), Jeff Pevar (Ray Charles Orchestra, Crosby, Stills & Nash), Bobby Chouinard (drummer with Ted Nugent, Squire and Robert Gordon), Jeff Levine (Joe Cocker), Aerosmith's Tom Gambel, and many others.

Fueled by two songwriters with contrasting approaches, The DayBreakers craft their distinct sound through a blend of folk rock melodies, blues guitar muscle, and rock and roll grit.  The five piece band, led by lead singer/guitarist Kyle Murphy, and bassist Matt Schairer has played many of New England's most revered rooms (The Middle East, TT the Bears, Thunder Road, Cape Cod Melody Tent) and shared the stage with some of the region's best roots rockers (Entrain, the Silks, Frank Viele), while also supporting national touring acts Christian Lopez and Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band. In August of 2018, the group was nominated for "Rock Act of the Year" by the New England Music Awards.

Tickets are available at  www.THEBLACKBOXonline.com or by calling the box office at 508-528-3370. Follow THE BLACK BOX on social media to stay updated on the venue’s offerings.

The ensemble, comprised of NYC and Boston/Providence talent as well as collegiate actors from programs like Dean College, includes Casey Harkness Andrade, April Ball, Gia Chessa, Heather Dorler, Takaaki Matsumoto, Emiliano Morales, DJ Ormond, Julia Ormond, Myranda Rose Silva, Kellie Stamp, Johanna Stipetic, Lindsay Tomas, and Isis Wilson. The cast will be joined by Student Apprentice Performers from the Franklin School for the Performing Arts Elena Baker, Helena Cornwell, Devin Curley, Finley Doherty, Emmett Eastman, John Fitzhenry, Anya Fox, Macie Hoben, Matthew Packard, Ashley Pepin, Mason Sanford, Kate Settle, Angelina Willey, Owen Charles, Grayson Kerrigan, and Colette Lelievre.

FPAC’s flexible theater space, THE BLACK BOX, will be transformed into a multi-stage rock concert centering the iconic Phil Collins music, while telling the classic story by blending Broadway and concert experience. Conceptualized and directed by Raye Lynn Mercer and Ali Funkhouser, the show will feature choreography by Broadway’s Clay Rice-Thomson (Moulin Rouge!, KING KONG, Newsies, Matilda) and music direction by Hallie Wetzell. Based on Disney's epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend, Phil Collins, and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits, like the Academy Award winning "You'll Be in My Heart," as well as "Son of Man," and "Two Worlds," make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience.

In 2006, Josh Strickland created the leading role of Tarzan in Disney’s musical Tarzan on Broadway. In 2009, he made his starring Las Vegas debut in Peepshow at Planet Hollywood Casino & Resort while concurrently co-starring in the hit E! reality show Holly's World. Strickland debuted his first single "Report to the Floor," which skyrocketed to the top-five on the iTunes Dance Charts the first week of its release, followed by “Last Dance.” Ruby Lewis starred as Indigo in Cirque du Soleil’s premiere Broadway show, Paramour. She specializes in biographical roles, having played Betty Hutton & Peggy Lee in Lights Out: Nat ‘King’ Cole at the Geffen Playhouse (Ovation Nomination) and Marilyn Monroe in Marilyn! The New Musical (Best Broadway Performer Las Vegas) at the Paris Theatre in Las Vegas, backed by the Marilyn Monroe Estate. Tyrick Wiltez Jones led the U.S. Tour and Off-Broadway productions of Bat Out of Hell as Jagwire. His Broadway credits include Howard in Finian’s Rainbow and Hairspray as well as the Broadway National Tours of Miss Saigon, Seussical, Fosse, and Show Boat.

FPAC is an Actors’ Equity Small Professional Theater company based at THE BLACK BOX in downtown Franklin, MA. Each season, FPAC produces musicals, plays, ballets, and more featuring Broadway stars, professional actors, local performers, and emerging artists. Tickets for Tarzan are available at FPAConline.com or by calling the box office at 508-528-3370.

Enjoy the fund raising for the Children’s Museum of Franklin Benefit Gala on April 11

Children's Museum of Franklin is a community-focused 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving Franklin, MA and the surrounding region. We believe that play is integral to learning and development. With that at heart, we're building an interactive and imaginative space where children and families can come together to discover, imagine, and grow.

Children's Museum of Franklin strives to inspire the next generation and to build a community of intentional connection through play and exploration. Over the last several weeks, Children's Museum of Franklin hosted its first two Mobile Museum pop-up events. We had nearly 1,000 people attend. We are overwhelmed (in a great way!) by the joy and community enthusiasm. This show of support has only enhanced our excitement as we move forward with the development of The Museum.

Children's Museum of Franklin is hosting its first major community awareness and fundraising event, Night at the Museum Gala, on Thursday, April 11. Join us for an evening of friends, exhibit play, live entertainment, food, and conversation.

Have fun with friends: forward this invite on to your community!

We hope to see you on April 11.

Cheers!
