Hockomock League: Hockomock League Fall II Update on Away Spectators

"Effective immediately, the Hockomock League will allow 2 AWAY family members of SENIOR student-athletes to attend all varsity games. This policy will include all league sports offered during the Fall II season: Cheerleading, Football, Volleyball, Track and Field, and Unified Basketball.

Going forward, the Athletic Directors will continue to monitor information as it is made available from the EEA, DESE, and our local Boards of Health. Each district has the ability to make this policy more restrictive based on its own facility limitations and/or local Board of Health restrictions. It is our goal to focus on the health and safety of our communities while safely permitting family members the opportunity to watch high school sports in person. "

In the News: MA FY 2020 budget late; FHS Hagen didn't miss day of school

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"State lawmakers and Gov. Charlie Baker will head into another new fiscal year on Monday without an annual budget in place.

While most states around the country have wrapped up annual budget deliberations, Democratic leaders in the House and Senate here have been unable to bridge disagreements over pieces of their nearly $43 billion spending bills.

The bills take different approaches to school aid, prescription drug price controls, a tuition and fee freeze at the University of Massachusetts and aid to the struggling nursing home industry, among other issues.

Negotiators are deliberating privately and have not disclosed what’s holding up an on-time agreement."

"Six years ago, when the Daily News interviewed Lauren Hagen after she completed 13 years of public schooling without being absent for a single day, she appeared to issue a challenge to her younger brother Michael, then a sixth-grader.

“Even though a lot of people think it’s crazy, he should really push for it, because it’s such a great accomplishment and a great way to end your public school career,” Lauren said at the time.

Michael not only accepted his sister’s challenge, he fulfilled it.

From kindergarten through his senior year, also at Franklin High, Michael Hagen never missed a day."

Attendance sheets updated

The attendance tracking spreadsheets have been updated for the new Town Council and School Committee. The two worksheets for the past Council and SchCom are still present in the workbook and each tab has been renamed to reflect the term of service. The past sheets are labeled as '2009-2011', current sheets are named '2011-2013'.

I have also added a sheet where I will attempt to record the roll call votes by councilor. I already record the votes during the meeting, putting them into the spreadsheet will allow for an easier analysis of who is voting on what.

The link to the workbook does not change. You can find it here:

If there is other information you would be interested in having, please let me know.

Franklin, MA: Town Council Attendance

The Town Council is an elected position. It is a volunteer position. Despite some who persist in saying they get paid to do this, they don't. At least not in a formal salary or stipend etc. from the Town.*
* updated 5:40 PM - in trying to nail the item that the Council does not get compensated, I guess I left open a door for other compensation. Clearly, that was not my intent. I guess the hammer hit my thumb. Ouch!

The performance of the current Town Council since being elected in November 2009 is shown below:

Note: The spreadsheet that drives this chart is publicly available and has been since November 2009. You can view it but not edit it. If you find something that should be corrected, please let me know.

The spreadsheet also records the School Committee attendance. There is significantly less variability among the School Committee members.

Town Council and School Committee Attendance

I have added and will be updating a spreadsheet to keep track of the attendance records for the Town Council and School Committee as these two groups go forward. Keeping track of the sheet as each meeting occurs will be easier than trying to do a year or more at a time.

The spreadsheet can be found here and in the Important Links section in the middle column. You should be able to view the spreadsheet but not be able to update it (assuming the permissions work out properly).

The spreadsheet has two tabs: one for each group. The tabs are found on the bottom of the spreadsheet.

The coding for attendance will be as follows:
P - Present
A - Absent
L - Late (arriving)
E - Early (to leave)

Yes, an easy mnemonic to see if someone's attendance will pale in comparison to another's. Pun fully intended as the mnemonic.
