Washington Post: "Are you ready to buy a house? Take our quiz and find out"

"Homeownership is how many Americans accumulate wealth, and it’s an important life goal for millions. But affording a home is a growing challenge — if not out of reach entirely — for many people.

In the past three years, mortgage rates have more than doubled and are now at nearly 7 percent on a typical 30-year loan. And they are unlikely to drop significantly this year. Even those who can swing an all-cash purchase, experts say, still have plenty of other expenses to consider, including maintenance and insurance.

So, should you buy a home right now? To help you decide, take this quiz."

FHS & KP SADD's annual Miles for Maura - a virtual event this year

FHS & KP SADD's annual Miles for Maura (5k Run/Walk) will be virtual this year in memory of Maura D. Howard, victim of a drunk driver. Please join us! Thanks for your support!

@milesformaura @kingphilipsadd @FranklinHS @FranklinMatters   @FranklinPSNews

Please support via this link -> https://fundly.com/2022-miles-for-maura

"The SADD chapters at King Philip Regional High School and Franklin High School are committed to ensuring Miles for Maura participants and the greater community stay safe. Therefore we have made the collective decision to host another virtual 5K Run/Walk in memory of Maura D. Howard.

On July 31, 1994, on her way home from a weekend trip with friends, Maura was killed by a drunk driver who was speeding recklessly down the highway. Because of this destructive decision, life for Team Howard and Maura's extended loving family and friends has never been the same.

Keeping Maura's memory alive is our top priority. Spreading awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through scholarships in her honor is a critical piece of the mission.

We are launching this year's Miles for Maura campaign on Maura's birthday, Saturday, April 9. Throughout the month you will be able to participate in the virtual event. We are asking for a minimum donation of $10. Once you register, you can complete as many 5K (3.1 miles) runs/walks as you would like between Saturday, April 9, and Saturday, April 30.

Let’s stay connected! Please follow and tag @milesformaura on Instagram so we can collect and share your unique experiences.

We will miss walking together! Because of the success we had during our virtual 2021 campaign, we plan to continue the hybrid approach. For locals, we look forward to resuming a larger in-person event in 2023.

We are incredibly grateful for all of the community support throughout the years. Thank you for your continued commitment and participation. Stay well, spread kindness, and take care of yourselves.

Donation by Mail: Please make checks payable to Maura D. Howard Memorial Fund and send to Foxboro Saving 160 Main Street Norfolk, MA 02056.

Thank you!"

Franklin Public Schools - Decision on schools delay or whatever to be made in AM

December 2, 2019

Dear Franklin Families and Faculty/Staff,

We continue to follow the weather forecast carefully. Current predictions call for snow picking up overnight and continuing into the morning hours. There is some uncertainty in the storm’s intensity and timing, which could reduce snow totals.

Therefore, a decision about a delayed school day or cancellation will not be made until the early morning hours. Notification is usually sent between 5:00 and 5:30 AM.

Sincerely,

Franklin Public Schools

"How not to be ignorant about the world"

The TED Talk by Hans and Ola Rosling has a provocative title. It may be just me but I would have said "How to better informed about the world." And maybe that is why I am doing what I do and not presenting something like this.

Regular readers know that what we are about here at Franklin Matters is sharing information and creating a fact-based understanding about what is happening in Franklin. We focus on the business side of things but do spend time in related matters.

At one point in the talk Hans says:
"You see, the problem is not that people don't read and listen to the media. The problem is that the media doesn't know themselves."
What we do here is not 'traditional media'. I use "we" deliberately. You contribute as much to this site as I do. Your questions, your information, your corrections all help to drive what is shared here. It may be my name on most of the regular posts. It may be Renata's name on the weekly summary of events. But is is YOU behind the scenes feeding us the info and questions.

Towards the end of the talk Ola (Hans' son) says:
"If you have a fact-based worldview of today, you might have a chance to understand what's coming next in the future."
Thank you! Please continue to read, comment, share and ask question. Together we can become more informed about Franklin or as Hans would say "not ignorant!"

The video runs about 18 minutes so settle in and enjoy!
