Boys Lacrosse = King Philip, 9 @ Franklin, 17 – Final
– Franklin dominated the first half, building a 12-2 lead against the visiting Warriors and never looking back. After being limited to two goals in his previous game, Franklin senior Eric Civetti exploded for 10 points, scoring six goals and adding four assists to lead the Panthers. Jake Davis added three goals, Matt Lazzaro scored twice and had one assist and Jacob Alexander went 13-for-16 at the faceoff X. Connor O’Rourke made three saves in net while Will Davis came in to make five saves in the second half.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 7 @ King Philip, 6 – Final (2OT)
– Franklin sophomore Erin Walsh scored the game-winning goal on a feed from classmate Kelsey MacCallum to help the Panthers pick up a win on the road at KP. MacCallum also had a goal and four draw controls, Annie Walsh added three goals and three draws, and Katie Jones had one goal and one helper. Sophomore Gianna Cameron made six saves in net while freshman Sydney Hawkins had a strong game defensively for the Panthers.

Reminder: Franklin Line shuttle runs on weekend - Noisy Drilling Scheduled 4/28-29

Shuttle Service

Weekend train service on the Franklin Line will be replaced by ADA accessible shuttle buses, making all regularly scheduled stops, between Forge Park/495 and Readville stations from April 7th through May 27th during the installation of PTC.

The MBTA will install federally mandated Positive Train Control (PTC) systems along the Franklin Line to improve safety by reducing train collisions and derailments. This work will require weekend shutdowns on the line between Forge Park/495 and Readville, where passengers will connect to train service.

Shuttle buses will be free and passengers will pay for train service from Readville to Boston.

Noisy Rock Drilling

On the Weekend of April 28-29, 2018, the PTC Systems Integrator Ansaldo STS USA, Inc. is scheduled to perform rock drilling activities during daytime work hours of between approximately 6 AM – 6 PM.

The work will take place along the Franklin Line between Walpole and Forge Park stations at locations in Walpole, Norfolk, and Franklin.

Tri-County Student from North Attleboro Wins Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award

Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School senior Carolyn Kiely, of North Attleboro, has been selected as the recipient of the 32nd Annual Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award. The cosmetology student received the award during a ceremony and dinner on Thursday, April 12th, at the Mechanics Hall in Worcester.

The Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award is presented each year by the Massachusetts Association of Vocational Administrators (MAVA) and the Massachusetts Vocational Association (MVA) to one student from each vocational technical high school in Massachusetts. The award recognizes students who have made significant contributions to their local school district and to the statewide vocational technical education system. Recipients must have excellent attendance, a minimum of a 3.5 GPA and vocational-related work experience. The students must demonstrate leadership qualities, technical competence, involvement in the community and extracurricular activities.

Carolyn Kiely, of North Attleboro

Carolyn, the daughter of Marie Kiely and the late Brian Kiely, is an outstanding student in the cosmetology program. Ranked number two in her class, she has earned a GPA of 4.44. A consistent high honors student, she is currently enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses and has completed course work at a local college.

At Tri-County, Carolyn is the president of both the National Honor Society and the Gender and Sexualities Alliance club. She is also a Student Representative on the Tri-County Advisory Board and participates in SkillsUSA and the Math Team. She was nominated for the CTE Scholarship as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution Scholarship. Carolyn was awarded the Tri-County Cougar Culture Award as well as numerous other awards for perfect attendance, honor roll, shop excellence, and subject excellence in all areas.

Outside of school, Carolyn devotes herself to community service by volunteering her time at the Stony Brook Audubon Sanctuary where she sells tickets, assists patrons and prepares trails for the winter season. She also loves music and is engaged in singing, guitar and drum lessons. She also likes to perform at local open mic nights.

The North Attleboro native has been accepted at Johnson and Wales University, Ithaca College, UMass Amherst Honors College, and the Eugene Lang College for Liberal Arts-5 year accelerated master's program. Carolyn will be attending Northeastern University in the fall where she plans on pursuing a Psychology degree.

Tri-County RVTHS, located at 147 Pond Street in Franklin, is a recipient of the High Schools That Work Gold Achievement Award and serves the communities of Franklin, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleboro, Plainville, Seekonk, Sherborn, Walpole, and Wrentham.

Boys Lacrosse = Mansfield, 5 @ Franklin, 13 – Final
– With Mansfield’s defense focused on Franklin All American Eric Civetti (two goals), Panthers’ freshman Matt Lazzaro stepped up and netted a team-high four goals to lead the way. Zach Alexander, Will Davis, and Chase Tanner all had two goals apiece while Nitin Chaudhury scored once and had one assist. Connor O’Rourke made eight saves in net for the Panthers.

– Frankin jumped out to a 10-1 lead at halftime and never looked back against the Hornets. Kelsey MacCallum paced the offense with three goals and two assists, Annie Walsh added four goals and four draw controls, Hailey Toolin chipped in with a pair of goals and four draws, and Haley DeStefano finished with a goal and an assist. Gianna Cameron made six saves in net for Franklin.

Franklin Interfaith Council's Voices of Faith Concert - April 29

The Franklin Interfaith Council is pleased to announce our Voices of Faith concert on Sunday - April 29 at 6 pm. This free concert will be performed by musicians from the council's houses of worship. The musical selections chosen are a reflection of the performer's faith and dedication to their house of worship. All of the Council's faiths hold music as a central and sacred part of their expressions of faith. This concert is an opportunity for us to share these special songs with our greater family of Franklin. Musical selections include performances by children's choirs, adult choirs, instrumental pieces as well as performances by the Interfaith Council's chorus.

All are invited to share in this musical celebration. The concert is being graciously hosted by Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 91 Jordan Rd. Doors open at 5:30 pm. The concert is free and there is plenty of free parking. The facilities are wheelchair accessible.

The theme for our concert this year is "Peace" and we are happy to announce that donations offered at the concert will be used for refugee relief.

Comprising many of the houses of faith in Franklin, the Interfaith Council addresses the various needs of Franklin by recognizing the power of faith as defined by our individual spiritual traditions. However it is these same traditions that unite us in the common goal to initiate and sponsor activities that enrich and challenge the citizens of Franklin. Additionally, the council seeks to both acknowledge and celebrate the diversity and the common values existing within Franklin. The council is a nonprofit organization that has as its primary purpose the betterment of the community it serves.

Current members of the FIC include: St. Mary Catholic Church, St. John's Episcopal Church, First Universalist Society in Franklin, The Franklin United Methodist Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, The Franklin Federated Church and Temple Etz Chaim.

Tri-County Regional's Summer STEAM Camp Now Accepting Registrations

Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School's summer camp program, "Tri-County Summer STEAM Camp" is now accepting registrations.

Tri-County's licensed teachers use their industry expertise to teach campers about everything from Engineering Technology to Cosmetology. During the week-long camps, students will learn how to program a video game, build like an engineer, or cook like a chef. These creative activities allow campers to refine valuable STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) skills during the summer months.

Tri-County Steam Camp

"Experiencing life at camp has profound positive effects on children and is the perfect time to enjoy activities of interest while continuing to learn," said Jean George, Director of Vocational Education at Tri-County. "Tri-County Summer STEAM Camp offers campers opportunities to have fun and become familiar with various career pathways in innovative and engaging ways."

Tri-County camps include: Art Adventures Camp, Cosmetology Camp, Cyber Camp, "Hey Mom and Dad, Let Me Cook Dinner!" Camp, Kerbal Space Program Camp, and Robots, Robots, Everywhere Camp. Full camp descriptions are available on the high school's website. Camps will be offered in five, one-week sessions beginning on July 9th and ending on August 3rd. The cost of each camp is $210.
Enrollment in each program is limited to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8 in September 2018. Students living in the Tri-County District are given preference for enrollment. Early registration is highly recommended as the camps are expected to fill up. All programs are subject to adequate enrollment.

Beer and Wine Tasting Fundraiser for Franklin Arts Academy - Apr 26

The Franklin Arts Academy (FAA) Boosters will be hosting a Beer and Wine Tasting Fundraiser with proceeds being used to fund an FAA student field trip and scholarships for FAA seniors. Raffles available at the door. Light snacks and live entertainment will be provided.

Pour Richard’s is graciously hosting the event and will also be donating a portion of sales proceeds to the FAA Boosters.

Dear Friends,

In just one week, our community will come together in support of the Franklin Food Pantry in our fight to end hunger. The 3rd Annual Empty Bowls Dinner on Tuesday, May 1 is a family-friendly event that raises funds and awareness for the Franklin Food Pantry as we work towards a hunger-free community. Here are some highlights of the event:

• Delicious soups donated by Whole Foods Market and 3 Restaurant, topped off with some fresh bread and a little something for your sweet tooth
• Kids can make a bowl to take home as part of ArtWeek, Franklin
• All participants are given a handmade ceramic bowl as a reminder that "somewhere, someone's bowl is empty"
• On site giving opportunities such as a Silent Auction of beautiful ceramic bowls, and a Giving Wall where you can purchase a bag of groceries for a Franklin family 

Stop by the Franklin High School cafeteria any time between 6 - 8 p.m. and join us for a bowl of soup. At 6:45 p.m., I will give a brief talk about how some of our families in Franklin are struggling with hunger. 

This very special evening is made possible through a wonderful collaboration with the Franklin High School Empty Bowls Club. It reflects the hard work of a dedicated and passionate group of EB Club members, district K-12 art teachers, their students and Franklin community members. 

We will be selling 350 tickets through our website on a first-come, first-served basis. You can buy your tickets now online. There are also sponsorship opportunities available for groups and corporations.

Cultural Connections, a free arts and culture roundtable, will be held May 9 at 7 PM in the Golder Room at Dean College, Franklin. Anyone interested in arts and culture, from any organization in any town, is invited to attend. The subject of this roundtable will be Defining Community, something that is both very simple and incredibly complex. How do you define your organization's Community? Is it simply the attendees at your event? Your neighborhood? Your target market? Is it based on socio economic demographics or connections with one another? Is your Community made up of those that observe what you do, or those that participate in what you do?
