Pantherbook: "DECA Engages Future Business Leaders from Home"

From Pantherbook we share the following:

"Are you interested in business? Want to be an entrepreneur? Do you just want to try something new? Then DECA is just right for you!

What is DECA?

DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. It’s an organization that helps students enter the world of business and get to know more about it. Franklin’s DECA organization appeals to anybody who is interested in any field of business. In DECA, students either create a written project or compete in a role play. Both events require persistence and hard work. The topics for these projects vary from Finance to Entrepreneurship to Sports and Entertainment and more.

“It is not an easy club, but if you put in the effort, then you will succeed and have fun as well!” said Mr. Carmo. Mr. Carmo teaches business and other subjects at FHS and runs DECA as well. "

FM #295 School Committee Mtg - 6/09/20 (audio)

FM #295 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 295 in the series.

This session shares the Franklin (MA) School Committee meeting held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. The meeting was conducted via conference bridge to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period.

Chair Anne Bergen opens the meeting outlining the protocol for how the meeting will be conducted. Each person is announced so you can follow who is saying what.

The school budget discussion was a good portion of the meeting including many public comments. The school committee has not yet determined a date for their vote on the 'final' budget. The one they are on record voting for, is more than the Town can afford. They acknowledged during the meeting work remains to be done. There is one more School Committee meeting this fiscal year, June 23. There will be continued discussion on the budget for several months.

The recording runs long, almost 4 hours, so settle in to listen to the Franklin (MA) School Committee meeting of Tuesday, June 9.

A Franklin High School team (Sompally, Valiveti, Bhakta, and Gandham) is one of the DECA Idea Challenge global winners

There is a line about pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, these students have done that with shoelaces. Yes, shoelaces!
"DECA Inc. is excited to announce this year’s DECA Idea Challenge global winners!

A premier event of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), the DECA Idea Challenge dared elementary through university students to generate a new use for shoelaces in merely a week! In addition to reinventing the item, teams were to create a video pitch of their new product.

With a significant amount of creativity, teamwork and determination, these teams were able to rise to the top.

Congratulations to the following DECA Idea Challenge global winning teams"

Franklin High School DECA sends 45 students to the State Competition in March

Over 100 FHS students participated in the DECA District competition last week with 45 qualifying for the States in March at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

You can help support the students for the State competition in March by contributing to the cause below.
"Franklin’s DECA team competed in its annual District Competition Tuesday, January 8th and Wednesday, January 9th at the Mansfield Holiday Inn.
DECA is Franklin High School’s “business” club. The organization itself “prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe,” according to DECA’s website. It’s a great way to practice problem-solving and public speaking while having fun about a subject you’re interested in.
At the competition, students are registered under different events, each one specialized to a specific type of business or business plan. If you’re into sports, there are sports marketing events. If you’re into international business, there is an international business event. DECA has something for everyone."
