Massachusetts Craft Brewers Passport
From the Mass Great Outdoors Blog I find this:
Try this link to the Brewery Tours if the one above doesn't work
http://www.mass.gov/agr/massgrown/culinary_tourism/brewery_tours.htm
Note: When using the interactive Mass Grown Map, I do find that the listing of CSA Farms is missing the three farms in Franklin. Hoffman Farm, Akin-Bak Farm and Grateful Farm all offer CSA shares and are not currently listed.
Craft beer tourism is exploding across the country and in Massachusetts. There is a growing consumer interest in distinct, fresh and natural craft beers, and now there are more premium, high-quality craft beers to choose from. The Buy Local movement in Massachusetts has grown from local produce to craft beer, which supports both top notch products and a local connection.
The Massachusetts Craft Brewers Passport features a map of the Commonwealth, with the locations of local breweries split into five regions. Breweries that use Massachusetts-grown ingredients are indicated with a small tractor icon. At each brewery, you can get your passport stamped and when a region in completed, receive a free T-shirt! Downloadable passports and information for both brewers and growers is available at www.mass.gov/massgrown and http://www.mass.gov/agr/massgrown/culinary_tourism/brewery_tours.htm

Pour Richard's Wine and Spirits (photo essay)
Pour Richard's logo |
I met Ann Williams at a networking event with the Downtown Partnership. I recalled the license transfer coming before the Town Council. They had purchased the license for the store by the Dunkin Donuts on King St and were moving into larger space on Grove St. Shortly after they opened I stopped by to visit and then returned again Saturday to take some better photos. I met John Wass on Saturday and he graciously sent along the JPG for their logo so I could share it here.
Where are they located? 14 Grove St
When driving west along RT 140 and cross the i495 bridge, turn left at Grove St. Turning right would bring you to the 99 Restaurant, BJ's and the train station. Pour Richard's will be located just past the MassHighway facility on your left before the railroad tracks.
The Pour Richard's store front
They have an interesting way to display their wine. These racks allow the bottles to lie down and yet be visually appealing.
Per Ann, the rack allows for most bottles sizes to fit. They go one step further to help the shopper and write some notes about many of the wines. While they will generally be attentive to the shopper, this helps the shopper browse on their own.
For the beer section, they will focus on local and craft beers. Ann proudly posed with a new sign for Narragansett, a classic beer from Rhode Island.
The craft beer section features sturdy shelving and a refrigerator for some chilling beers. They will do beer tastings on Friday nights. The beer from Ispwich Ale Brewery is being featured Friday, March 1. Stop by after 5:00 PM, try a sample and if it meets your taste and budget, take some home.
Don't forget to stop by the "Bargain Boat" to see what is available.

Clown Shoes Beer Celebration - Franklin
Hello Everybody,
The British Beer Company will celebrate the brewing prowess of Clown Shoes Beer at the Franklin pub on Saturday February 25th. Five kegs and a cask from this popular Massachusetts based craft brewer will be tapped at noon. Flowing through the taps: Supa Hero IPA, Tramp Stamp Belgian IPA, Clementine Witbier, Muffin Top Belgian Tripel IPA, and Hoppy Feet American Black IPA. The cask will be a Vampire Slayer Imperial American Stout - one of Clown Shoes newest and most highly rated beers! How could anyone not be intrigued by a beer made with "Holy Water, malt smoked locally with hickory, beechwood and vampire killing stakes". Mmmm...stakes. Join the BBC from 3-6pm for a brewery promotion and social with a bunch of give-aways.
British Beer Company executive chef James Gibney of Essex England will be using and pairing Clown Shoes for some unforgettable lunch and dinner specials. These one day only delicacies will put a unique twist on some pub grub favorites and will incorporate and infuse Clown Shoes Beer into the recipes. Sorry...there will be no cotton candy.

Christmas in July Patio Party - BBC Franklin
Ohhhhhh - the weather outside is delightful…so let's celebrate with a
Christmas themed outdoor patio party! On Thursday July 28th the
British Beer Company in Franklin will be decking out the patio to
celebrate Christmas in July. Twinkling lights, stockings hung with
care…dig out your fluffy Santa hat from the closet and join the
celebration. Fun for the kids for sure (face painting, cookie design,
crafts), but more importantly this party will benefit children in need
through the Franklin Police Department's Toy Drive which is associated
with the Santa Foundation. Everyone who brings an unwrapped gift to
put under the glorious fake Christmas tree will be entered into a
raffle with some great prizes. Adults will be able to enjoy a secret
stash of seasonal winter beers that the BBC has been cellaring for a
special occasion along with some Christmas themed (cold) cocktails.
Come join BBC staffers and members of the Franklin community as they
sing along to their favorite Christmas carols under a beautiful summer
sky.

The British are coming to Franklin, Massachusetts!
What: British Beer Company opening in Franklin, MA
Where: 280 Franklin Village Dr. (Franklin Village Plaza)
When: December, 28 2010
Why: For the enjoyment of all in and around Franklin
What else: 36 tap lines, 91 bottled beers and 1 cask
In Great Britain, Ireland and across Europe, the pub or “local” is the center of town life: a place to relax, refuel the body and spirit, share news and be entertained. The British Beer Company is excited to bring this same atmosphere and service to the community of Franklin.
The BBC offers an eclectic menu, unparalleled beer, wine and cocktail choices and an array of free live entertainment at all their locations. Settle in to one of the several snugs (a private cozy booth) and enjoy a traditional flaky Pasty Pie (chicken and leek perhaps), a crisp Wensleydale salad or a tasty bar pizza (traditional, gluten free or with multi grain dough). Most important; the BBC wants customers to relax and enjoy themselves. At the BBC servers don’t throw a check on the table before the meal is done and rush customers out the door.
Massachusetts owned and operated, the BBC is a refreshing alternative to the surrounding cookie cutter chain restaurants. It’s easy to see why they’re growing so fast - with Franklin being the tenth BBC location to open in Massachusetts since being founded in 1997. Each location has a unique vibe and personality all its own, yet shares its best features with its other siblings – for example, the carefully crafted mahogany bars shipped in from the UK. The BBC in Franklin boasts 36 tap lines of imported brews and specialty craft beers, 91 bottled beers from around the World and Franklin’s first cask conditioned ale. Live entertainment at the BBC is always free with live bands Friday and Saturday nights. Unique lunch and dinner specials are available daily (a couple weeks after the opening).
Whether it’s a business lunch, an after work get-together, a family dinner in friendly surroundings or a late night soirée fueled by great music over pints with friends…the BBC is destined to be Franklin’s new and only local.

What could Franklin do?
What can 10 million dollars and a community do together?
Make a commercial, of course!
Would the money have been better spent elsewhere? on something more important than beer? There might be something to discuss on that topic.
Guinness just launched "Tipping Point", the most expensive TV ad in its 80-year marketing history, with a domino rally that features cars, flaming hay bales and grandfather clocks. Shot up an Argentinian mountain, the ad shows a community coming together to create the mother of all domino-toppling spectacles. Genius! (Production cost: $10 million)
