“It is not enough to simply ask passengers to comply -- it must be enforced,”

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"Capping ridership on buses and trains is not on the table as the MBTA prepares for a monthslong, gradual resumption of public activity, nor is denying service to system users who do not cover their faces despite an executive order urging mask usage, MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said Wednesday.

During a wide-ranging interview with WBUR’s “Radio Boston,” Poftak said leaders at the agency are exploring ways to manage demand but hinted that designating maskless-only vehicles, strictly enforcing face-covering or distancing, and significantly increasing capacity -- at least in the next few weeks -- are not within reach.

Under Gov. Charlie Baker’s executive order requiring face coverings when social distancing is impossible, commuters are required to wear a mask or similar garment on public transit. However, the order exempts individuals who have a medical condition preventing them from covering their faces, and Poftak said that language precludes a mandate to riders even though he agrees the practice is “really important.”

“No one is allowed to ask them to verify that they have this medical condition, so we’re in a position where we really can’t enforce it in a police action kind of way,” he told WBUR."

Tuesday, November 12, 2019

Dear Franklin Families,

Due to the forecast for frigid temperatures and cold wind chills this evening and early morning and the potential for lingering icy spots on roads and sidewalks, the Franklin Public Schools will be utilizing emergency busing tomorrow morning, Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Students who do not normally ride the bus who are walking or waiting along the route will be picked up by our drivers.

We do not anticipate a need for emergency busing in the afternoon.

Please take steps to appropriately prepare for tomorrow's weather. Boots or appropriate footwear, warm coats, hats and gloves or mittens will be critical in the morning hours.

Stepping back into the archives for March 5, 2010 we find that the Town of Franklin had just put out a survey to improve the Franklin Area Bus service provided by GATRA.

Did you know Franklin had a bus service? GATRA or the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transportation Authority provides the service for $1.50.

"Franklin has issued a survey and is looking for your feedback on the Franklin Area Bus service, also know as GATRA.
The bus has been running the same route for two years, and the town wants to improve that route if necessary."

(The survey links are not working today so no need to try them.)

"People want a robust service"

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:

"Commuter rail riders will be forced to take a bus along the Franklin line from Forge Park to Readville station in Hyde Park on weekends until late May.
Due to construction starting on the track this past weekend, bus service will run on weekends until May 27. Each commuter rail station from Forge Park to Readville, 9 stops, is marked with signs that indicate where and when the next bus is scheduled to arrive. The times are intended to match up with the times already posted online, but with traffic, the schedule is unpredictable.
There is no construction on weekdays because of the impact on the commute, according to state Rep. Jeff Roy, D-Franklin.
“You can’t get near there on weekdays,” Roy said, referring to how the Forge Park and Dean Station parking lots are full by mid-morning. “That’s why they’re doing it on weekends, so they don’t interrupt the flow.”
