Tri-County Regional Opens Summer Camp Registration

Pique your child’s curiosity this summer with Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School’s Summer Camp program. A variety of exciting camp themes ensures a fun, safe, and engaging environment for your child to enjoy while learning something new.

Tri-County’s licensed teachers use their industry expertise to teach campers about everything from Computer Information Technology to Baking. During the week-long camps, students will learn how to program a video game, style hair and create nail art, or design a custom t-shirt. These creative activities allow campers to continue learning during the summer months.

“Experiencing camp is another opportunity for children to become independent and self-confident and is a great time to enjoy activities of interest while continuing to learn,” said Cathie Rebelo, Director of Vocational Education at Tri-County. ““Tri-County Summer Camp offers campers opportunities to become familiar with various career pathways in innovative and engaging ways while making new friends and having fun.”

Tri-County camps include: Art Adventures Camp, Baking Camp, Cosmetology Camp, Cyber Camp, and Hall Pass to Healthcare Camp. Full camp descriptions are available on the high school’s website.

Camps will be offered in a one-week session beginning on July 8th and ending on July 12, 2019. The cost of each camp is $225. Enrollment in each program is limited to students entering grades 6, 7, and 8 in September 2019. Students living in the Tri-County school district are given preference for enrollment. Early registration is highly recommended as the camps are expected to fill up. All programs are subject to adequate enrollment.

Kids’ Summer Vacation Cooking Camp - Grades 4 - 7

It’s summer vacation and it’s a great time for cooking camp! Lifelong Community Learning is pleased to announce its Kids’ Summer Vacation Cooking Camp at Kids Corner for Grades 4 - 7. 

The camp runs Monday through Thursday during the week of July 29 and the fee is $299. Kids’ Corner aprons are also available to purchase for just $11.99.

For 3 hours each day - over 4 days, students will enhance their kitchen skills and learn complex techniques like searing, sautéing, folding, and more. 

Menus and recipes are fun and challenging at the same time. Here’s a sample of what the students will be cooking: breakfast for dinner, comfort foods, a variety of cookies, and snack attack favorites.

Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School's summer camp program, "Tri-County Summer STEAM Camp" is now accepting registrations.

During the week-long camps, students will learn how to program a video game, build like an engineer, or cook like a chef. These creative activities allow campers to refine valuable STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) skills during the summer months.

"Experiencing life at camp has profound positive effects on children and is the perfect time to enjoy activities of interest while continuing to learn," said Jean George, Director of Vocational Education at Tri-County. In the News: Camp Haiastan renovations; GoFundMe for Montgomery

"Hidden in the woods off Summer Street, the Armenian Youth Federation’s Camp Haiastan is being renovated with the help of a few generous donors. 

David Hamparian, executive director of Camp Haiastan, said that the camp’s offices are being restored because they are in one of the oldest buildings on the site. In the past few years the camp has renovated many of its facilities, all fueled by donations. 

The Armenian Summer camp was founded in 1950 by area residents who had lived through the Armenian genocide. Their children took over as the elder generations passed away. Haiastan was the first Armenian camp in the country. Hamparian said the mass murder of 1.5 million Armenians by Turkish forces in the early 1900s has flown under the radar in many ways and is given little attention in textbooks and classrooms.

"Teenage years can be stressful. But it’s also a time where the future is bright and minor details are forgotten over time. 

Small things, however, can alter lives. And in Jackson Montgomery’s case, it’s a bug bite. 

On Thursday afternoon, the Franklin resident was preparing for a science final at UMass Amherst. The test, he said, is stressful, but it’s his Lyme disease he was worried about. 

“My symptoms really start to act up at night,” he said. “But that’s OK, I’ll do my best and make it through.”

The Franklin radar turns up this article about renovations at the Armenian Youth Federation Camp Haiastan located on Summer St in Franklin.

"Thanks to the generosity and dedication of Mr. Gregory Arabian of Belmont, Mass. and the Rafaelian-Caruolo family of Cranston, R.I., AYF Camp Haiastan is set to embark on yet another significant infrastructure upgrade this spring. Three major projects have been already completed in the past three years: a new camp-wide septic system, a new water well, and most recently, a new shower and bath facility. 

Arabian is increasing his commitment to the Armenian Cause by donating $250,000 to renovate and add a second floor to our aging Director’s Quarters in Franklin. This dramatic transformation will allow our summer directors to live in enhanced quarters on the second floor with increased privacy and a second bedroom while adding four bedrooms on the first floor for semi-private accommodations for head counselors, assistant directors, guests and more. This donation was spurred by the love felt by Attorney Arabian during his numerous visits to AYF Camp Haiastan while executing the wishes of Neshon Hagopian as the executor of Mr. Hagopian’s Estate. 

“I have decided that this is how I wish my legacy to be,” Arabian said, while pointing to the 50-plus-year-old building. “I like what you are doing here.”

Hockomock Area YMCA Counselors Share Impact Summer Camp Has On Participants

Across the 15 communities the Hockomock Area YMCA serves, there are many opportunities for young people to work and contribute to the community. The Y summer camps are one such opportunity. In fact, across the five summer camps of Bellingham, Foxboro, Franklin, Mansfield, and North Attleboro, the Y employed 301 camp counselors this year – many of whom are former campers themselves. These valuable members of the Y community are vital to the success of each of the 1,300+ campers that participate in the Hockomock Area YMCA camps each day.

Sam Taggert, a counselor at Camp Elmwood at the North Attleboro Y since the age of 16, cites her own experiences as a former camper and the importance of camp to the kids as her reasons for becoming a Camp Elmwood counselor.

“I knew I wanted to have this job because I looked up to my counselors so much,” said Taggert. “Camp’s changed my life. It made me realize how important it is, how important this job is to the kids, to everybody. Kids come here to have a good time, to not worry about what’s going on at home, and it’s so important to me to give them a fun opportunity to spend the day having fun and playing outside.”

Carlos Jeri, a counselor at the Invensys Foxboro Y’s Camp Wapawca, talks of a personal connection with one of the campers to whom camp served as a safe haven.

“We have campers who come in from orphanages or homes where they really don’t have parents,” said Jeri. “There was one camper who was having a particularly rough time, and he and I started talking and we formed a connection. He started telling me about his life and how camp was his escape from everything. We started to create a connection and I found out how much of an actual impact we made.”

Throughout their time at camp, each counselor wears a t-shirt which bears the words “role model.” Colin Maximiuk, a counselor at Camp Wiggi at the Bernon Family Y, considers what the term means to him.

“The idea of a role model to me means that I’m this figure that kids look up to,” said Maximiuk. “So throughout every day I’m acting the best that I can, so that the kids can learn to not only be as good as me, but better than me.”

Joe Milosh, a counselor and former camper of the North Attleboro Y’s Camp Elmwood, speaks on what he believes to be the importance of imparting the YMCA’s values to campers.

“It means a lot about how you’ll be when you grow up, and the type of person you want to be,” said Milosh. “I want to make sure that all the children are learning how to carry themselves in a respectful, kind way. And I think that’s what the core values do – they show children a way to act, and set guidelines for how you should be when you grow up.”

Hundreds of young people take part in the camp programs every summer, and whether they are already counselors or are working to become counselors, they contribute greatly to the Y. Dean College Announces 2017 Summer Camp Schedule

Dean College is pleased to announce the creation of four summer camp options for high school students ages 14 and up, including sports broadcasting, sport management, forensics and stage combat.

Upon completion of the two-week camp, students will not only walk away with a unique learning experience, but will have earned three college credits.

“We are excited to offer these amazing programs that truly are one-of-a-kind opportunities. The camps are both fun and educational and having the chance to earn college credit really adds to their appeal,” says Gregg Chalk, Dean’s Vice President of Marketing and Business Development.

Each camp is designed to provide students with unmatched experiences, including instruction by leaders in their respective field, advice on the college admissions process from a Dean College admissions counselor (one-on-one consultation), college credit for successful completion of the course/camp, and behind the scenes access to Gillette stadium, WEEI Sports Radio, McCoy Stadium and other locations appropriate to the respective camp.

Both Sport Management camp and Stage Combat camp will take place July 10-21, 2017, with the Sports Broadcasting and Forensics camps happening July 24th through August 4, 2017.

“Every camp will have customized experiences embedded into them,” says Chalk. “For example, Sports Broadcasting will have the campers creating their own demo reel, announcing on Power 88 FM and actually doing live play-by-play at a Pawtucket Red Sox game. Similar experiences will be weaved into each camp.”

Overnight and day-only options are available. Housing for overnight campers will be provided by Dean College, with night and weekend activities included with room and board.

Summer is here and it’s time to venture outside and make the most of the great outdoors. If you’re ready to leave behind the comforts and conveniences of home for a few days and explore the wilderness, camping is a fun activity the entire family can enjoy. 

Massachusetts is home to at least 29 unique campgrounds with different open and close dates during the summer. Certain locations offer online reservations and can be made as late as one day prior to your arrival. Anyone 18 years old and over can make a reservation with a valid photo ID.

Summer Fun Dance Camps

Imagine tutus, tiara, castles and wands. Make edible jewelry and paint with chocolate. Watch your favorite story book come to life, all while dancing! Patti Eisenhauer Dance is offering a variety of themed dance camps for young dancers this summer. In addition, the Intensive Dance Camp for older dancers is also being offered. All are welcome to both camps.

There are several options for the Summer Fun Dance Camps. Following are the dates and times for Week 1: Princess Camp, Ages 2-6, Aug 5 to 9, 10am to 11:30am. Little Princess will enjoy a magical day of dance, crafts, games and fun. American Girl Doll Camp, Ages 5-12, Aug 5 – 9, 12:30 to 2pm. Enjoy a fun day of camp with your favorite doll. Bring your doll to dance camp and enjoy a day of dancing come home with lots of handmade mini crafts. Campers can bring any large doll. It does not have to be the American Girl brand.

The schedule for Week 2 is as follows: Story Book Camp, Ages 2-6, Aug 12 -16, 10am to 11:30am. Your child’s imagination will be swept away into their favorite stories as they dance at this special camp. Each day will focus on a different story including Fancy Nancy, Mary Poppins, Angelina Ballerina and Pinkalicious! Candy Dandy Dance Camp, Ages 5-12, Aug 12-16, 12:30 to 2pm. Girls just want to have fun and they will at this candylicious camp! Enjoy sweet crafts, dance to candy songs and make homemade treats.

For a special treat, join the Lunch Bunch Program! Any camper can take advantage of our Lunch Bunch program. You can bring your own lunch and have a picnic with the teachers and enjoy a dance, movie, game or craft. Time is 11:30-12:30 and the cost is $30 for the week.

Tuition for each camp Summer Fun session is $95. There is a 15% discount if you pay your full camp tuition by April 15. Also, a 10% discount is added if you register for the second week.

The Intensive Dance Camp for older dancers will take place July 29 to August 2, 2013. This camp is for the serious dancer that wants to improve technique, flexibility and learn new types of choreography with Master Teachers. There is a strong emphasis on ballet at this camp.
