"All season long, the Franklin boys basketball team has relied on their defense and a balanced scoring attack on their way to the top seed in the D1 Central tournament. On Sunday afternoon at WPI, Franklin stuck to that formula in a 68-54 win over #5 Natick in the D1 Central Semifinals.
The Panther’s defensive effort was in full force throughout the first quarter, as they limited the Red Hawks to just ten points to take an 18-10 lead. Franklin sophomore Chris Edgehill score seven of his team-high 19 points for Franklin, including a three that beat the buzzer to give Franklin an eight-point advantage heading into the second quarter.
After Natick’s Will Bodnitzki (nine points, three rebounds) scored with just over four minutes to go in the first half to cut the Franklin lead to 26-17, the Panthers went on a 10-2 run and didn’t give up a field goal to close out the half. Threes from Paul Mahon (13 points, two steals) and Matt Elias (eleven points) highlighted the run that also included two free throws from Jack Rodgers (six points, eight rebounds, three assists) and a basket from Will Harvey (two steals)."

"The Franklin High School varsity cheerleading team topped two divisions at a national competition over the weekend.
Coach Amy Murphy said the squad - participating in the Platinum Nationals competition in Rochester, New York - won the high school division and was the grand champion of the school division.
“They scored 91.71 out of a possible 95 - they did great,” she said.

"Recent security upgrades helped keep an unwanted visitor out of the Parmenter Elementary School, officials said during an update on school safety this week.
Superintendent Maureen Sabolinski said a reconfigured entrance - part of ongoing security efforts - kept that person from entering the building. Sabolinski, along with Assistant Superintendent Peter Light, gave a presentation on school safety at Tuesday night’s School Committee meeting.
Sabolinski said school safety ties in with the district’s recent work with social/emotional learning, especially the idea that students have to be emotionally ready to receive instruction.
“If students do not feel safe in school, they’re not learning,” she said. “The research is replete with data (showing that).”
"The high school’s varsity cheerleading team is preparing to travel to New York this weekend to take part in a national competition.
A Tuesday night showcase event celebrated the team as it moved on to the competition, the Platinum Nationals at the University of Rochester.
Coach Amy Murphy said the squad, which cheers at football and basketball games, had already competed in several levels to qualify for the event. At competitions, she said, the team’s routine is judged on a number of factors, including tumbling and the team’s overall dance motion.

Four employees from Franklin completed a comprehensive “OSHA-10” training program, held at Town Hall in Walpole.
The interactive 10-hour hazard awareness training session was designed to enhance the skills, productivity and general safety of municipal employees who work in construction zones. The Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association, property and casualty insurance provider for the six participating municipalities, presented the program free of charge as a membership benefit.
Cheerleaders from Medway and Franklin are participating in the third annual Cheer for Dana-Farber fundraiser, which supports adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The Medway High School Varsity cheerleaders and Franklin High School JV and Varsity cheerleaders are fundraising until Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26.
To participate in Cheer for Dana-Farber, cheerleading teams fundraise in their local communities through car washes, bake sales, canister collections and more. There is no minimum fundraising requirement, but teams are required to register.
The Center for Adult Education and Community Learning, a program of the Franklin Public School’s Lifelong Learning Institute, will expand its private music lesson program.
The program is now available Monday through Thursday, after school and during early evenings at Franklin High School, 218 Oak St.
The Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School Varsity cheerleading team are preparing to compete at the U.S. Spirit national cheerleading competition for the first time in school history.
The Tri-County squad placed third in Division III at the MSSAA 2015 Winter Cheerleading State Competition at Wachusett Regional High School last Sunday to earn its invitation to the national competition.
The team's road to nationals included a 2015 Mayflower Athletic Conference Championship and a 2015 Division III South Regional Championship.

If you come to a Franklin High School sports game, there’s a good chance you’ll see the famous Rattle City. In fact, it probably would be hard to miss.
You’ll see dozens of FHS students, some decked out in odd and festive costumes, and others holdings signs and pictures. Everyone, however, will be chanting and screaming, rooting for their beloved Panthers.
So what exactly is Rattle City? Despite its size and prominence, there are still many FHS students, particularly underclassmen, who do not know or understand its role. It may be because the name “Rattle City” may not have an obvious meaning to everyone. The idea is to have a fan section that is so rowdy and enthusiastic that it psyches the opposing team out. It was inspired by various colleges whose students practiced such a strategy during sports games.

State education officials this week gave the Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School the green light to double its enrollment and expand its district to encompass 13 other towns.
Among the first charter institutions to open in the state, the school won approval for two amendments allowing it to increase its enrollment by 450 pupils over the next 10 years and extend the district beyond Franklin's borders.read the full article here (subscription required)
