Giggles for Good - Virtual Comedy Show - Feb 12

What is Giggles for Good? We'll let Doug MacPherson of HMEA explain:

"Who out there hasn’t been affected in some way by Covid 19? Here at HMEA we have had to restructure, renew and realign many things to continue providing services and program.

To help us do this we have reached out to everyone in the communities where we live and work. And one of the best ways to cope with all that is going on is to provide fundraising events and there’s a great one coming up on Friday February 12th at 7 PM.

Who doesn’t like a good laugh right?

Well here’s your chance to enjoy a good solid hour of comedy right from your own home – hey the parking is free – the commute is really short and the lines for food and the facilities are completely controlled by YOU. In addition, you are supporting a very worthy cause allowing HMEA to meet its mission.

We have two nationally acclaimed stand up clean comedians.

Cyrus Steele from Atlanta Georgia is a master impressionist, imitating everyone from Seinfeld and Arnold Schwarzenegger to Elvis and many more.

Cyrus most recently has performed on FOX and NBC's "America's Got Talent".

He's an in demand performer at corporate events and comedy clubs nationwide.

We also have Jason Love. Who is One of today’s hardest-working comedians, he has appeared on HBO, Comedy Central, and America’s Got Talent.  His crafty punch lines and guitar bits make him a real favorite corporate comedian for companies like Chevron, Google, and Pepsi.

Funny. Clean. Relevant. Jason performs at clubs around the country, from the Laugh Factory in Hollywood to Caroline's on Broadway. He performs overseas for the troops and on the seas for cruise lines. His clips are played daily on SiriusXM."

DON WHITE
DON WHITE
If you've never seen Don White, you are in for a treat! If you've seen him before, you know how entertaining he is. There is no one-word description for what Don does.

He has survived and thrived for twenty-five years, bringing his audiences to laughter and tears in his live performances, studio recordings, and on the printed page.

He is a storyteller-comedian-author-troubadour-folk singer-songwriter. He is a walking challenge to the phrase "file under." Best to just sort him under "Don White."

Don's approach to music is a weird, unique blend. If he just played folk music, it would be a handy label. But he has invented his own genre with a mix of humor and powerful songwriting. White's arc as a writer and performer has taken him from his industrial hometown of Lynn, Mass. across the country as hitchhiker, through Boston's comedy clubs and coffeehouses, and onto the stage with greats like Christine Lavin, Arlo Guthrie, Taj Mahal, Ritchie Havens, Patty Larkin, Bill Morrissey, Tom Rush, and Louden Wainright III. At every point, White has been the ultimate observer, infusing his work with his experiences as a husband, a father, a seeker, and a joker.

Many songwriters use their real lives for inspiration, but few do it like Don White. He often draws inspiration from his family, whether it's a touching song about the circle of life or an uproarious story about dealing with his daughter. "It's what I'm comfortable doing. It's what I know. I'm always amazed by people who write songs about the Civil War in a convincing way and were never there. I assume they were never there. Write about what you know. I've been raising kids and being in a relationship since I was a kid myself. I mean, I could try to write about other things, and I do, occasionally, but that's what I know best."

Lots of information about Don, his many CDs, and his tour schedule can be seen on his website http://www.donwhite.net/.

Mike Agranoff
Mike Agranoff
Mike Agranoff, opening for Don, is equally at home in the contemporary and traditional camps of the Folk world. His prime instrument is the guitar, upon which he shines with intricate fingerstyle arrangements of anything from Tin Pan Alley tunes of the '20s to fiddle tunes to his own music. He also plays concertina, piano, banjo, or sings acapella. He can be uproariously funny, contempletive, and powerfully emotional in the space of a few minutes.

Not so much a singer-songwriter as a "singer-songfinder, Mike takes great delight in discovering the little-known hidden gems, polishing them with his own distinctive style, and bringing them to the light of day where they sparkle.

Tickets for the concert are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, available at the church office, 508-384-3110, or at www.musicatocc.org. The event will be in Fellowship Hall at the back of the church with entry from the parking lot behind the church. Parking is available behind the church and in the lot across the street. For more information and to be added to the mailing list, visit the website or contact Ken Graves, 508-384-8084, occmusic99@gmail.com.

Circle of Friends Coffeehouse: Eric Schwartz - Nov 4

View this email in your browser
Eric Schwartz
Nov 4th - 8 PM $20

NOTE: This show is recommended for mature audiences

Award-winning singer/songwriter, performer, satirist, multi-instrumentalist, and entertainer Eric Schwartz will perform at the Circle of Friends Coffeehouse on Saturday, Nov 4th at 8 PM.

He's been playing music and comedy venues nationally for fifteen years. Eric's songs have been sung by Ronny Cox, Holly Near and Van Dyke Parks. His songs go from the political to the profane, sometimes both and have won him the International Songwriting Competition's best comedy song of the year award.

Eric's latest CD release The Aristocrat was called "a comic treasure" by Paul Zollo (Songwriters on Songwriting) and the U.K.'s Rock'n'Reel magazine says it is "beautifully produced and perfectly executed".

Schwartz has garnered radio play on many stations including NPR's All Things Considered. His CD "The Better Man" caused Brian Keathley of KALX Berkeley to say "by far his best work yet. A great collection of tunes with humor, and social commentary - some of which is damn profound. Be listening for it this week and beyond on my radio shows!"

The Circle of Friends Coffeehouse is a non-profit organization affiliated with Franklin's First Universalist Society. Concerts are presented in a smoke free and alcohol free environment at the Society's handicapped accessible Meetinghouse, 262 Chestnut St. in Franklin, and begin at 8:00 PM; doors open at 7:30 PM. Beverages and gourmet desserts will be available. Tickets for this shows are $20.  Please call (508)528-2541 or visit http://www.circlefolk.org/ to purchase tickets or for more information.

"Bryson Lang is a Comedy-Manipulator. He takes both ordinary and out-of-the-ordinary objects and literally spins them into a visual tapestry in a distinctive and dynamic way.
At Bryson’s show you’ll see: flying sombreros, sharp sickles, huge spinning rings, upside down bounce-juggling, giant beach balls, glo-in-the-dark objects, a tennis racquet and always a few surprises. The Press of Atlantic City said, “…quick-witted comedy with mind-blowing juggling skills, Bryson Lang's act is a sight to behold!"
