Liquor/All Alcohol licenses up for changes and/or approval for next Town Council meeting

One of the ways my informational radar works is with alerts. The Town of Franklin has a number of alerts that can be set up for you to receive an email with an update. Monday morning, was busy as three public hearings were announced for the next Town Council meeting April 6, 2022.

To set up an alert, visit this page -> https://www.franklinma.gov/subscribe

This works for some aspects of Town business. Alerts and notifications are a work in progress and I will continue to advocate for additional alerts.

In the meantime, you can also subscribe to the calendar so when an item gets added to the calendar you get notified. An RSS reader is needed for this however.   https://www.franklinma.gov/calendar  (Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the RSS icon, click it and subscribe with your RSS Reader).

"measure ensures all drivers in Massachusetts are licensed and trained to operate"

"THE HOUSE PASSED legislation Wednesday that opens a pathway for some undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses in Massachusetts, a move advocates say would make roads safer for all motorists and opponents argue rewards people for entering the country illegally.

On a 120-36 vote, the House advanced the bill to the Senate after hours of debate that divided representatives on whether the legislation promotes safe driving in Massachusetts or undermines legal immigration.

Rep. William Straus, co-chair of the Transportation Committee, said the “narrowly drawn bill” would protect public safety and addresses Gov. Charlie Baker’s concerns with the policy. "

by Pete Fasciano, Executive Director

On December 27, 2021 Franklin Community Cable Access, Inc., dba
Franklin TV and Franklin Public Radio as the licensee of wfpr-lp, on 102.9 FM in Franklin, filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to renew its broadcast license.  Members of the public wishing to view this application or obtain information about how to file comments and petitions on the application can visit the FCC’s website: www.fcc.gov/stationsearch, to find wfpr-lp’s filed application.  For more information, please email info@wfpr.fm  or call
508-541-4118.

Pending license renewal, the public may participate either by filing a Petition to Deny or an informal objection against a renewal. Positive comments about a broadcaster's service may also be submitted.  Persons may respond via the FCC’s database, LMS on the web.  Alternatively,  persons may submit paper copies to the Commission.  For paper copies, please include an original and two copies of any filing.  An additional copy of any filing may also be mailed to:

Franklin.TV
23 Hutchinson St.
Franklin, MA 02038

All USPS First Class Mail, Express Mail and Priority Mail should be addressed to:

Office of the Secretary
Federal Communications Commission
445 12th Street, SW,
Washington, DC 20554
Attn:  Audio Division, License Renewal Processing Team

Additional Suggestions for Filing.  To help the staff expeditiously associate a Petition to Deny, informal objection, or positive comment with the proper license renewal application, the pleading should prominently identify:

The radio station's call sign:       WFPR-LP
The station's facility ID number:  194829
The license renewal application:   0000177961

This information is available in the LMS Public Search on the Commission's Web site, and should be listed on the first page of your submission.  The filing must also state whether it is a Petition to Deny, Informal Objection, or a Comment.   If a cover sheet is used, it should be attached to each copy of the pleading. Failure to include this information may delay associating a pleading with a renewal application.

And – as always –
Thank you for listening to wfpr●fm.

Franklin, MA Town Council Meeting - audio recording of 07/21/21 - three parts

FM #582, 583, and 584 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 582, 583, and 584 in the series.

This session shares part of the Franklin, MA Town Council meeting held on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.

The meeting was conducted in a hybrid format: members of the Town Council and Town Administration personnel were in the Council Chambers, some of the public participated in person, some were remote via the Zoom conference bridge, as we move to come out of this pandemic period.

I’ve split the almost 3 hour meeting into three logical segments:

  • First - covers the opening with 3 recognitions, and the public hearing on the tasting room definition zoning bylaw change (~37 mins)

  • Second - covers the Dean College alcohol license discussion and new vote. Dean had been denied in 2020, appealed to the ABCC, and the ABCC determined the Council had improperly denied the license. (~1:09  or 69 mins)

  • Third - covers the legislation for action including funding approval and acceptance of the first right of refusal for the Maple Hill purchase with CPA funds. They enter Executive Session and return about 30 minutes later. The update on the Town Administrators contract was provided, approved via vote, and then the meeting closed. (~44 minutes)

The show notes contain links to the meeting agenda including documents released for this meeting.

Let’s listen to this segment of the Town Council meeting of July 21, 2021
