for the Town of Franklin:

"The Town of Franklin, its community partners, and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, through research, outreach, and analysis, have worked to create the following Market Study. Within this study, the input of residents, businesses, and students and staff from Dean College were incorporated. The three focus areas of the study were Downtown Franklin, the Mixed Business Innovation District, and the Crossing, as well as the Franklin Cultural District. 

Research included demographic, housing, transportation, and business data, with consumer spending habits, and market potential, and expenditures incorporated within the study. Additionally, the Town of Franklin Market Study held multiple community engagement sessions, with a town-wide open house, a Business Roundtable, a Dean College Roundtable consisting of students and staff, and a town-wide survey, in addition to the Cultural District Roundtable already mentioned. Furthermore, a town Economic Development Survey was provided, with over 700 responses. 

Through research, interviews, and public outreach, a list of eleven recommendations were created in ranked order. These recommendations build upon the strengths of Franklin’s history, its arts and culture community, its active boards and committees, its inspiring college, and its distinctive neighborhood businesses. Based on results from the market study, along with input from the community (through the Open House, Business Roundtable, Arts & Culture Roundtable, Dean College Roundtable and Economic Development Survey), a set of recommended goals, strategies and actions were developed. Recommended goals, strategies and actions focus on marketing Franklin’s existing and potential future amenities to attract more business activity; concentrating development in the existing economic corridors of Franklin Center, The Crossing, and the Mixed Business Innovation District; and growing industry sectors identified in the market study as holding the potential for growth."

Franklin Farmers Market re-opens for the season on Friday, June 5

"The market is on schedule for opening day this Friday, June 5th!

While the farmers' market has been a great social gathering space for many years, we have to adjust to the current world climate and make it a shopping only experience for 2020.

Due to that, there are going to some changes. Please review the new shopper guidelines so that you can be prepared for shopping local this season.

When you arrive at the market on Friday, proceed to the market entrance and please be patient as we adjust to our new setup. We all look forward to bringing you the best foods and goods from our local farms and producers."

Franklin Farmers Market re-opens for the season on Friday, June 5

"Many farmers markets across the MetroWest and Milford region are set to open in the coming weeks, but they will have a different look this year amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The state Department of Public Health in late April released guidelines for farmers markets to safely open and operate during the crisis, including limiting the number of customers allowed to enter the market at one time, implementing social distancing measures, having customers and vendors wear masks and gloves at all times and minimizing cash transactions, among other measures.

The situation is similar in Franklin, which will open its market June 5.

“The market is going to be very different this year as it has historically been a great gathering space on the town common” said Cynthia Garboski, Franklin Farmers Market manager. “This year, the message will be to come in, but local, support your farmers and continue on with your day elsewhere.”

During the graduation ceremony on Friday night, seniors took their seats for a final time. 

Principal Paul Peri touted valedictorian Alexandra Krylova’s accomplishments, saying she never once scored less than a 94 in any course, and completed 13 Advanced Placement courses. 

“Alex will undoubtedly accomplish all that she sets out to do,” Peri said."

Ashland’s opening day was Saturday, with farmers markets continuing each week on that day through mid-September. Each week carries a different theme, activities for children and entertainment to be performed on the Ashland Arts Alliance stage. 

Hopkinton’s farmers market starts on Sunday on the Hopkinton Common (corner of Marathon Way and Ash Street). Farmers markets will run from 1-5 p.m. on Sundays through Oct. 13."

Franklin Garden Club Plant Sale at Farmer’s Market - June 7

The Franklin Garden Club will hold a plant sale from 12:00 – 6:00 PM at the first Franklin Farmer’s Market of the year on June 7 at the Town Common. A variety of reasonably priced annual and perennial plants will be available for purchase, along with flower arrangements made by club members. Proceeds will benefit the club’s scholarship fund and other community activities.

Club Co-Presidents Susan Childers and Janice Cederquist stated, “While the recent rainy weather may have delayed many from planting, June is the perfect time to plant annuals in either gardens or pots, as the weather is getting warmer and plants will begin to thrive. Our sale provides a convenient way to purchase plants or a beautiful flower arrangement to enjoy at home or use as a gift that will brighten the day for someone else. “

State Representative Jeffrey Roy (D-Franklin) announced today that constituent office hours will be held in Medway and Franklin on the following days:

Franklin – Friday September 21, 1:00-2:00 PM at the Franklin Farmers Market on the Franklin Town Common, 201 Main St. Franklin, MA

Medway – Monday September 24, 9:00-10:00 AM at Galante’s Restaurant
320 Village St. Medway, MA

Ryan Arego, his legislative aide, will be accompanying him.

"A visit to the Farmer's Market in high summer is an exercise in flat-out hedonism. Mmm... fresh basil, that's smells amazing! The local tomatoes are starting to come in-I need some of those. Corn. I definitely need corn. Peaches! Do I have time to make peach cobbler? Or I could just bite into one right now....Blueberries! Can't forget those. Cucumbers. Snap peas. Fresh salad greens. Local cheese. I really should have brought more shopping bags.

These delights are brought to you courtesy of your local farmers, whose hard work produces delicious food which nourishes both body and spirit. And land devoted to farming preserves open space, a precious commodity when new condo developments are popping up all over town. Local farms are a wonderful asset to our town and region. Shopping at the Farmer's Market is an easy way to support them, but we could- and probably should-do more.

So when our fabulous customer Liz Smith approached us about holding a MA Farm Bureau event, we said, 'Absolutely! Count us in'. And the Pour Richard's Massachusetts Farm Bureau FUNdraiser was born.

Last year's event featured local produce, local cheese, local ice cream, local craft beer, organic wines, and a whole pig(!). Chef Daniele Baliani, of Waltham's La Campania, created an incredible feast, and a rollicking good time was had by all. We immediately started planning a sequel.

This year's MA Farm Bureau FUNdraiser will take place on Saturday, September 8, from 1-5 PM. Chef Daniele will be back. So will the ice cream, the beer, and the killer produce. Another pig is on the menu. And this year, we're featuring winemaker Roberto Gianelli, from Tuscany's San Filippo Estate, pouring his lovely organic Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Farm Bureau's scholarship fund. We will also donate a percentage of our sales.

Save the date, and definitely save up your appetite. Help us support our local farms. Because no farms= no food."

The School Committee Community Relations Subcommittee will hold their next "Coffee" today at the Franklin Farmers Market on the Town Common. 12 PM - 6 PM

Franklin Garden Club: Perennial Plant Sale - Friday, Sep 29

The Franklin Garden Club will hold a perennial sale on Friday, September 29 at the Franklin Farmers Market, which takes place at the Town Common. The sale will include a variety of divided perennials from the gardens of members, as well as the Town Common. Plants will be sold for $3.00 and $5.00, a significant savings over the retail cost of perennial plants. Also available for sale will be some dried flowers and decorative moss balls.

“Fall is an excellent time to plant perennials,” noted Deb DeGrazia, Club Treasurer and one of the sale organizers. “The weather is cooler and plants have several weeks to acclimate in the garden before the winter.“

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Club’s community activities, which include an annual scholarship and the distribution of pine tree seedlings to all Franklin first graders to celebrate Arbor Day and promote environmental awareness.

The Franklin Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts.
