Pam's Run 2016 - "Neighbors Helping Neighbors"

Honoring the Legacy of Neighbor Brigade Founder Pam Manikas Washek and Supporting the "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" Movement she Ignited 

Sunday, October 16, 2016 – 10:00 am, Wayland, MA

WHO/WHAT: Neighbor Brigade, a non-profit organization that mobilizes local volunteers to help their neighbors during times of crisis, will hold its 4th annual fundraising event Pam's Run on Sunday, October 16th, 2016. The event will include a chip-timed 5K Run/Walk and a 10K Run, beginning and ending at the Claypit Hill School, 40 Adams Lane, Wayland, MA.

There will also be fun for the entire family with a new Kids' Fun Run, live music, family activities, food truck, photo booth, age-group awards and cash prizes for top finishers. Thank you to our top level sponsors Circle Furniture, Vona Construction and Lynch Tree

WHY: Pam's Run brings together more than 1,000 passionate runners, volunteers, spectators, donors and corporate sponsors who care about those in need in their communities.Proceeds from Pam's run benefit Neighbor Brigade, the non-profit organization started by Founder Pam Manikas Washek who envisioned a caring community of "neighbors helping neighbors" during times of crisis. Pam's Run honors the memory of Pam and supports the movement she ignited – now celebrating its 6th Anniversary. Washek's sister Joanna Manikas and niece Jayme Nowland are co-chairing the race planning

WHEN: Sunday, October 16th, 10:00 a.m.

** Registration opens at 8:15 am. Children ages 2-7 who want to participate in the Kids' Fun Run must register as well. Family activities, live music and food for all will be hosted throughout the event.

Franklin Neighbor Brigade recognizes the Spirit of Volunteer Appreciation Week

Franklin Neighbor Brigade has a couple of shout outs in the Spirit of Volunteer Appreciation week. Thank you to our volunteers for giving and sharing themselves to others!

• To all our volunteers - April 22nd the Franklin brigade will be receiving an award from the Franklin Senior Center and Council on Aging for our volunteer work with the Senior population.

• As a fundraiser for the Jefferson Elementary Fifth Grade Celebration, the school's fifth graders sold bags of "Soul Warming Soups," and provided the option of donating a bag of soup to a local charity. With the selling power of the fifth grade students, as well as their generous families and friends, the school donated thirty bags of frozen soup to the Franklin chapter of Neighbor Brigade. More than fifteen families purchased two and four pound bags of soup, and the company generously matched these donations. The students thoroughly embraced the opportunity to raise money for their end-of-year celebration, while participating firsthand in assisting local families in need. Thank you volunteer Jacqui. S. For making this happen! Our recipients are going to be enjoying this soup all winter long.

"Franklin Neighbor Brigade (NB) is active in the community presently operating with 203 volunteers. 

With varying month's of busyness, the brigade handled close to 300 requests this year. Additionally, there have been many extra moments that volunteers went above and beyond for their neighbors. What has been heart warming, is the giving focus especially during the holidays and the extra love to check in on recipients after they have moved out of crisis and adjusting to what we have called "the new normal".

Newsletter December 2015 Director's Letter As Neighbor Brigade celebrates our fifth anniversary in 2015, we couldn't be prouder of how far we've come since Pam Manikas Washek first harnessed the power of "neighbors helping neighbors" in 2010. From one small band of Wayland neighbors stepping forward with meals, rides, home visits, pet care and more for families in crisis, Neighbor Brigade now boasts 5,000 volunteers in 29 chapters across eastern Massachusetts from Charlestown and Needham to North Attleboro and West Bridgewater. Our chapters not only step forward year-round in times of immediate crisis, but as you will see below many of our chapters have initiated gift-collections and food drives for families and individuals that need a little extra support over the holidays. These spontaneous acts of kindness by our chapters - over and above our core mission - give us further resolve to continue strengthening Neighbor Brigade for many years to come. We are at an important junction for the organization. In the first half of 2016 we hope to launch new chapters across Massachusetts and beyond, broadening our service area to help neighbors in need. But to do this we need your help. With each new chapter funding is even more critical to sustain and grow our programs: Donations support our software platform, chapter leader support and outreach materials, staffing, and other necessities down to office supplies and technical support. Your donation to our upcoming annual appeal will ensure the continuation of Pam Washek's vision for the growth of Neighbor Brigade as a household name. Join the movement & give back Give the gift of expressive arts this winter by supporting #artforhmea this #GivingTuesday ~ December 1st, 2015 HMEA has joined forces with #GivingTuesday to capture the generous giving spirit during the holiday season. #GivingTuesday, which takes place the first Tuesday of December, is an international movement that inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support. And, this year, HMEA is asking you to help raise money to fund its art therapy programs throughout the cold winter months ahead.  Arts and Crafts are a significant part of the activities we do in our Day Programs here at HMEA.
