The high school will hosts its second annual "Family Science Night" next month - an event intended to encourage science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) interest on the part of elementary and middle school students.
The event - scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 - will be organized by the high school's Science National Honor Society group.
The group, said high school science teacher Ann Butler, is comprised of students who have reached a certain GPA in science subjects. This is the society's largest event of the year.

The School of the Arts at Dean College will perform “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” March 2-6 in the Performing Arts Studios Stage at Dean College, 61 School St.
“Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead” is the tale of Shakespeare’s play “Hamlet” as told from the view of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
The Dean College production will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday; 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The Circle of Friends Coffeehouse will host Seth Glier at 8 p.m. Feb. 27 in the First Universalist Society’s Meetinghouse, 262 Chestnut St.
A singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist who averages over 250 live performances annually, Glier has gone from opening act to headlining his own shows and playing major festivals. Citizens heard a report on multiple aspects of the MBTA Franklin Commuter Rail Line Thursday night, with information touching on fare increases, winter preparedness, schedule changes and the issues that led to a lengthy delay the previous night.
The meeting was hosted by State Reps. Sean Dooley, R-Norfolk, and Jeffrey Roy, D-Franklin, and State Sen. Richard Ross, R-Wrentham.
A potential plan to change the schedule was explained by Corey Lynch, the deputy director of rail operations for the MBTA. He said the Franklin line typically saw huge spikes in ridership in one morning train and one evening train.

Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) will an all-student production of the hit musical "Grease" on Saturday at THE BLACK BOX, 15 West Central St., downtown Franklin.
The powerhouse Broadway musical, with book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, became a Hollywood movie classic starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. With iconic characters, '50s pop culture, and electrifying rock 'n roll style, the original high school musical includes high energy dance numbers and the hit songs “We Go Together,” “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin'” and “Born to Hand Jive.”

"A candidate in the Nov. 3 election for the town clerk position is requesting a recount of the ballots after coming 32 votes shy in the race.
Diane Padula-O'Neill announced on Wednesday her intention to make that request.
The original tally of the four-way race had assistant Town Clerk Teresa Burr winning with 1,113 votes, defeating Padula-O'Neill (1,081), Elizabeth Simon (978) and Paul Cheli (472) for the seat.
In a statement, Padula-O'Neill noted that the winning margin was less than 1 percent of the votes cast. The statement further said that 198 ballots in the race were blanks, and questioned whether they were tallied correctly."
"Tri-County Vocational Technical High School and its energy partners will unveil a 1.3 megawatt solar panel array 10 a.m. Nov. 13 at the school, located at 147 Pond St.
U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III will join state lawmakers and energy leaders to unveil the ground-mounted solar system, created in partnership with nonprofit energy-buying consortium PowerOptions and SunEdison. The array is expected to offset the school’s annual electricity usage by 85 percent, with expected energy cost savings of over $50,000 in its first year and more than $1 million over the next 20 years."
"Chelsea Daniels, of Mendon, and Liam Devine, of Franklin, will perform in Dean College’s “Bye Bye Birdie” from Nov. 18 to Nov. 22.
“Bye Bye Birdie,” set in the 1960s, tells the story of Conrad Birdie, an Elvis-like rock-’n’-roll singer and his hapless agent Albert Peterson. The rock singer travels to a small Ohio town to make his “farewell” television performance and kiss his biggest fan before he is drafted. Songs include “Put on a Happy Face” and “A Lot of Livin’ to Do.”
The Dean College production will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18-21 and 2 p.m. Nov. 21-22 in the Main Stage within the Campus Center at Dean College, 109 W. Central St., Franklin. Tickets range from $5-$22 and can be purchased online.

The Star Players of Massachusetts and Dean College announced the cast and dates for the production of “The Wiz.”
Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6-8 and 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Friedman School, 500 Norton Ave., Taunton, and 7:30 p.m. August 20-22 and 2 p.m. Aug. 22-23 at the Dean College Main Stage Theater, 99 Main St., Franklin.

Thirty-four local students from the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) will travel to Walt Disney World during the April school break to perform for Disney audiences and participate in master classes with Disney performers, choreographers and directors.
FSPA musical theater troupes Broadway Ladies and Broadway Light, as well as the senior dance company, CenterStage, will entertain at Downtown Disney’s Waterside Stage. Performances are on Saturday and Sunday evenings, April 19 and 20. The FSPA students also will participate in Disney’s Broadway Magic, Jazz Dance and Acting 101 workshops, as well as in the American Idol Experience at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

FSPA performing troupe and dance company members are selected at the beginning of each academic year by audition. The ensembles offer outstanding training and performing opportunities throughout the year.

In preparation for the trip, FSPA will present a Disney Showcase on Friday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the Franklin Lodge of Elks, 1077 Pond Street. In addition to the Disney-bound ensembles, Disney Showcase will feature the musical theater troupes Lite Brites and BLT2, with younger FSPA students, and FSPA’s junior dance ensemble, Next Step. Ticket proceeds will help defray travel and workshop expenses for the Disney-bound performers.
The musical theater ensembles will be accompanied by FSPA’s resident rhythm section, including FSPA Director Raye Lynn Mercer, drummer and faculty member Kenny Hadley, as well as bassist and arranger Mark Poniatowski and guitarist Mark White, both of the Berklee College of Music.
Tickets to Disney Showcase are $25 for adults and $20 for students and seniors, and include a dessert buffet at intermission. Tickets may be purchased in advance at The Spotlight Shop (34 Main Street, Franklin), by phone (508-528-8668), and online (www.fspaonline.com), or are available at the door.
