Trivia Bee (photo slide show)

The annual Franklin Education Foundation Trivia Bee was held last night at the Mercer Auditorium, Horace Mann middle School. Each team was sponsored by a business or group. Some teams were represented by members of that group, others were filled in by Franklin High School students. Good fun was had with the music theme. Some of the questions involved clips of music to be identified. One of the clips was played in real-time by the High School Jazz Band ("the A Train").

The five teams that made it to the final round were
  • Horace Mann PCC
  • Franklin School Committee
  • Keller PCC
  • ECDC
  • Remington PCC

Update: The Franklin School Committee won the final round and overall title!

A slide show of most of the sponsored teams is available here:

("Most" as there are 26 in this first pass, so I need to figure out which 4 teams I missed and add those.)

Trivia Bee - partial recap

I went to the Trivia Bee to take some pictures of the early rounds. As I arrived, Glenn Jones recruited me as a substitute for one of the members of the Town Council team. I hope someone got a picture of Bob Bissanti, Glenn and I on stage. As 'apolitical' as I am and need to be as an information source, that is as close as you'll see me get to a "Town Council seat".

I was able to help with some of the questions but none of us knew the two ingredients for "an Arnold Palmer drink". We went with a wild guess at 'Scotch and water' and lost. Now we know it is half ice tea and half lemon aid. After we dropped out in the 5th Round, I got called away to pick up my daughter at the train station. Maybe someone can fill us in on who won?

The "Miracles", sponsored by Tom Powderly, were the Round 2 winner by answering this question correctly: What river does the Brooklyn Bridge cross? (answer below)

The Dean College Team won Round 3 by answering the question: How many years are celebrated in a sesquicentennial? (answer below)

The Franklin School Committee won Round 4 with the answer to the question: What do you call a group of monkeys? (answer below)

The "Munibees" participated in Round 2

The Rockland Trust Team participated in Round 4

Answers
Round 2 - East River
Round 3 - 150
Round 4 - troop

"We were a total team effort"

FRANKLIN —

Placing Martha Stewart's quote, "It's a good thing," was easy enough for Town Treasurer/Collector James Dacey in last night's annual Trivia Bee.

But Dacey's team, the "Franklin Munibees," comprised of Dacey, Town Administrator Jeffrey D. Nutting and Fire Chief Gary McCarraher, were lost when it came to identifying the HBO series, "Big Love."

Thus, they could not hold onto their "world championship title," as Nutting called it, from last year's Bee, which is put together by the Franklin Education Foundation to fund classroom grants.

Everyone knew the television character who once said, "We lost a daughter, Edith, but we gained a meathead," Archie Bunker and the puppeteer who told TV Guide she loved to shock waiters by ordering lamb Shari Lewis. (She rode to fame on a puppet named Lamb Chop.)

Town Hall wins Trivia Bee

Town Hall triumphant at Trivia Bee

By Joyce Kelly/Daily News staff

Thirty-six teams were tested on their movie mettle at last night's Trivia Bee at the Horace Mann Middle School, and in the end, knowing the name of Humphrey Bogart's club in "Casablanca" determined the victors.

Town Administrator Jeffrey Nutting and the "Franklin Munibees," (aka Town Hall), Town Attorney Mark Cerel and Treasurer Jim Dacey, won a spot on the Bee trophy when they correctly answered "Rick's American Cafe."
