Exploring Small CA Wineries - Oct 24

A Sit down wine tasting/education held in the Franklin Liquors wine room.
We will explore three small CA wineries.

The Wineries
Mountain View
From its inception in 1978, Mountain View has produced wines of superior quality. “Mom & Pop” vineyards are chosen from various regions throughout California that offer strong varietal character. Exceptional weather/climate/soil conditions set the stage for our terroir driven Amador County Zinfandel and Pinot Noir from Santa Maria Valley.

Ty Caton
20 years ago Ty Caton partnered with his parents to develop a 108 acre property in the renowned Mayacamas Mountain Range. Located adjacent to some world class vineyards and with an array of various soils, elevations, and sun exposures, it is a prime location for grape growing and now has its own prestigious appellation ~ Moon Mountain District. Only 40 acres of this certified sustainably farmed vineyard are planted to grapes. Ty learned to make wine from his friends, neighbors and practice. He strives for excellence and is an exceptional blender.

Fitch Mountain
Fitch Mountain Cellars started with 1 barrel made in a garage by Mike Duffy, a UC Davis Grad, Trefethen intern, and personal friend of wine guru Andre Tchelistcheff in 1984. Still handcrafted, our Merlot comes from a tiny, 4th generation vineyard in Dry Creek. Reminiscent of the breakout style in the ’80’s, this velvety wine has layers of complexity.

About Judy Lebel
In 2010, Judy Lebel realized the best way to fulfill her passion for enjoying fine wine and great food with interesting people was to go out on her own. Best Year Ever Wine Agency specializes in small production, earth friendly, family wineries. She was trained by many of California’s winery founders and later worked for the Robert Mondavi and Beringer/Raymond families.

Candidate Night
w/ Franklin Town Election Candidates
Thursday, October 10
6:30 - 7:30 PM
"Every Election is determined by those who show up"
-Larry J. Sabato,
"The Pendulum Swing"

No matter which party you support or how you feel about those currently serving in office, there is one thing none of us can ignore: our vote matters.  Elected Town Officials are focused on our town whether its keeping the peace, protecting the citizens, or being catalyst for improvements. They are also the people who can help us when we are dealing with town ordinances because of work or personal reasons.  The people elected in the November election will vote on issues that affect you.  How do you figure out who has your same intentions in mind?

For us, the best way to understand the candidates is to get out and meet them! Tomorrow night (don't worry we'll have you home in plenty of time for the game) we are welcoming over 15 of the candidates for Franklin residents to get to mingle in an informal gathering at the store. Get to know them and let them get to know you!

We will also be providing a wine tasting and light snacks.

Small print: Gathering is free. Dog-friendly, as always. 21+ for humans. Dogs can be younger.

Thank you for trusting us with your beverage business. Please share this email with friends who are interested in delicious wine, beer, and spirits. (Keeping all the good stuff for yourself is bad karma.)

Cheers!

Exploring Villa Matilde Wines - Aug 22

Exploring Villa Matilde Wines
August 22 , 7 - 9 PM

Host: Ciro Pirone

A Franklin Wine Club sit down wine tasting event held in the Franklin Liquors Wine Room.

$5 per person RSVP required

The name itself Campania felix, coined by the Romans implied the importance that this fertile land has had throughout history. Since the times of Julius Caesar the highly esteemed wines of Campania were consumed and exported to faraway lands, the Romans had already created a mapping of the most important sites for wine production and above all was the Falernum.

After centuries of fame and success, Falernum disappears from existence due to phylloxera and it isn't till the early 1960's and the incredible dedication of the Avallone family to recover such an important piece of history, and finally Falernum (aka Falerno del Massico) relieves.

Today the Villa Matilde properties extend beyond the area of Massico, also representing the territories of Benevento where Falanghina and Aglianico thrive as well as the major appellations of Irpinia, such as Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino and Taurasi.

Come explore 7 wines with us!

Harvest Festival FUNdraiser - August 25

From Pour Richard's email newsletter:
"In the depths of winter, when I'm fantasizing about summer, those fantasies break down into 2 broad categories: the beach and late-summer vegetables. The beach because that's where I wish I was, the vegetables because I wish that's what I was eating. August is when gardens and farm stands explode with deliciousness faster than you can consume it.
If you've never had cause to appreciate your 5 senses, August at a farmer's market will change all that, with sights, sounds, and-especially-smells certain to have you drooling in anticipation. Zucchini, fresh herbs, garlic, eggplant. Beans. Radishes. And best of all: sweet corn and tomatoes.

Very little can compete with a freshly picked and cooked ear of corn on the cob. Or a tomato straight from the garden, still warm from the afternoon sun. But if you're getting bored with the minimalist vibe, grill your corn and top it with cotijo cheese and hot sauce for a take on Mexican street food.
Bake the tomatoes into a tart, or stir them into olive oil, garlic, and salt for a quick pasta sauce. Make a frittata. Bruschetta. Or toss the corn and tomatoes with olive oil, basil, and a touch of hot pepper for a salad that's basically August in a bowl.

Of course, we have some definite opinions on what you should drink with all that, starting with some ripe, rich Cali Chardonnays. The Neyers Carneros is a classic, but don't overlook Fulcrum's Durell Vineyard or Byron Kosuge's Sonoma Coast Chard. Seeing red instead?
Pick up the black cherry-laden Villain & Vixen Grenache or our new favorite Avalon Cabernet. Or split the difference and go pink: Bedrock's Ode to Lulu gives you the gutsy quality of a big red with the slithery coolness of a white, all in one bottle.

And if you really like your tomatoes and corn (and zucchini and herbs and local beer, cheese, meat, bourbon, etc), then mark your calendars for our Harvest Festival FUNdraiser for the Norfolk County Farm Bureau.
Your $10 ticket is a 100% donation to the Farm Bureau and includes samples of delicious farm to table food, farm to glass cocktails, organic wines, and local beers. Sunday, August 25 from 1-4 PM. Don't miss it!"

Please Join Us For Drink Pink! - June 1

Never Drink Ordinary!
Please Join Us For Drink Pink!
Drink Pink!
Saturday, June 1

2-5 PM
Drink Pink, our annual fundraiser for cancer care and research, is almost here! It's OUR favorite event of the year, but if you're wondering why it should be on YOUR calendar, here's why it definitely should:

#1 Drink Pink is FUN! We invite all our favorite people, and a store full of fabulous people, grooving to the music of Franklin's own Kai Olsson, is definitely a good time.

#2 Drink Pink is TASTY! Eleven of our amazing vendors, pouring samples of everything from rosé to red, white, and bubbly, plus signature cocktails, spirits and craft beer. AND food from Teddy Gallagher's.

#3 You REALLY need an adult sippy cup! This year's 'tickets' for Drink Pink are nifty little insulated cups that keep beverages cold or hot for 2 hours. (If you need more time than that, I don't think we can help you.)

#4 The raffle prizes are CRAZY good this year. Tickets to a show at The Black Box. An Archer Roose cooler complete with delicious cans of wine. A box of Everlasting Roses, real roses guaranteed to last at least one year. And more!

#5 THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE. The American Cancer Society is waging a many-sided war against cancer. Research. Patient Care. Palliative care. Lodging near treatment. Family assistance. Education. Testing. All of these are incredibly necessary. All of them cost money. We want to give them some. 100% of ticket sales will be donated to Relay for Life* of Western Norfolk County. 100% of raffle tickets, ditto. And both Pour Richard's and Teddy Gallagher's will also be donating a portion of our sales.

This is a good time for a GREAT cause. Please join us and bring your friends.

Dog-friendly. 21+ * Relay for Life is the fundraising arm of ACS
Thank you for trusting us with your beverage business. Please share this email with friends who are interested in delicious wine, beer, and spirits. (Keeping all the good stuff for yourself is bad karma.)
