Peter Mulvey is an amazing songwriter and singer, an extremely entertaining storyteller, and a guitar wizard. He is returning to The Circle of Friends Coffeehouse stage in Franklin on Saturday November 16th, at 8PM. He has developed a strong national following in the indie folk/rock scene through his relentless touring and critically acclaimed albums. Twenty-odd years on the road, performing songs from his own catalog and from a vast, varied, and deep well of classic and obscure covers, has prepared Mulvey to deliver an outstanding concert. Night after night, the process of divining the heart of a song, being alert to where the moment can lead, has shaped him as an artist. The Circle of Friends Coffeehouse is a non-profit organization affiliated with Franklin's First Universalist Society. Letter from Lynn

As I wrap up my first 3 months at the Franklin Food Pantry, I have so much to reflect on, but what stands out to me the most is the welcome and support that I have found within the Franklin community. It's clear to me that the Franklin community recognizes the importance of the Food Pantry.

Many Americans are just one job loss or medical crisis away from food insecurity. The Franklin Food Pantry knows this and is here when someone needs us - whether it is for a short time due to a life circumstance, or if it is on an ongoing basis.

We believe that no one should go hungry or need to worry about where their next meal will come from. I am grateful to be working with such an amazing team of staff and volunteers, as well as a supportive community, that believes in supporting their friends and neighbors.

Since January 1, 2019, 119 volunteers have shared over 4,000 hours of their time with us! During this same period, we have distributed 1,308 backpacks to Franklin elementary school children, we have served 467 households representing 1,034 individuals: 164 seniors, 604 adults, and 266 children.

While food insecurity is an ongoing issue for our town, our state, and our country, the people of Franklin should feel proud to know that they are part of the solution.

There are many ways for you to get involved - run with us on Thanksgiving morning, volunteer as a Food Elf (or support one with a donation!), make a financial contribution, shop through AmazonSmile and share our social media posts. We appreciate the support the community has shown us, and we could not do it without you.

If you have questions or would like to get more involved with us, please feel free to reach out to me. My door is always open, and I always have an empty seat available at my table to sit down and chat.

Franklin Turkey Trot 5K Family Fun Run

Don't miss out on this fun family tradition for a great cause on Thanksgiving morning. Grab your turkey hats and your running shoes and bring your friends, family and co-workers. You'll be home in time for your turkey dinner with a full heart and ready for a full belly. The race is open to runners and walkers of all ages.

"The site of a long-vacant drug manufacturing plant on Otis Street is getting a new life.

Amazon.com Inc. announced plans on Wednesday to construct a $40 million Amazon Robotics Innovation Hub at the former AstraZeneca site at 50 Otis St. and bring 200 new jobs to town. The 35,000-square-foot facility will be in addition to the Amazon Robotics facility in North Reading that will together serve as the e-commerce giant’s epicenter of robotics innovation.

“We are going to completely re-do that site,” said Tye Brady, Amazon Robotics chief technologist, in a phone interview with the Daily News. “I can guarantee it’s going to be a world-class, state-of-the-art facility.”

The innovation hub will feature corporate offices, research and development labs and manufacturing space. The new location will allow Amazon Robotics to grow its engineering, manufacturing, support and test teams in the state. Crews will design, build, program and ship robots all under the same roof that will improve delivery speeds for customers around the world, said Brady."

This is good news. There are robotics groups in local schools. There is also the robotics group that has moved into the Red Brick School to utilize that facility for their robotics activities.

School Committee - Recap of 10/15/19 meeting

Catching up to this recap (apologies for the delay, was spending time on the election prep which was more important at the time).

The Superintendent's Report announced the authors visit to the three middle schools. This visit was funded by an FEF grant.
FHS students along with FHS teachers Kevin McCarthy and Mike Walsh provided an update on their trip to Germany this summer. 66 students participated in what was summarized as a success!
NEASC Two-Year Update – Paul Peri and William Klements provided an update that FHS did receive the accreditation. In the final report, there were 9 highlighted recommendations; 3 were completed outright and 6 of the 9 deal with 21st century and are connected with the Portrait of a Graduate work already underway.

Policy updates on the meeting procedure were approved
The Superintendent's new contract was approved (1% increase in line with other contracts)
