The warrant for Needham’s Town Meeting in May 2017 was 122 pages long and included 65 articles.
In addition to major zoning bylaws limiting residential development and a proposal to ban recreational marijuana stores, the warrant included a pair of articles to fund construction of a new $15 million public pool that would narrowly pass.
A year after she was elected to the state Legislature, Sen. Rebecca Rausch, D-Needham, remembered participating in the pool debate during that Town Meeting – her first as an elected local representative – and said it set the course for the start of her career on Beacon Hill.
“I continue to come back to that as a great example of why elections matter, representation matters and local government matters,” she said. “Many people think of Needham as an exclusively affluent town, and the exclusivity part of that is just not true – plenty of people can’t afford to join a country club, which was one of the arguments that was made.”

MassBay Community College said it will hold its annual fall open house at 9 a.m. next Saturday, Nov. 16.
Registration starts at 8:15 a.m.
College President David Podell along with faculty, staff and students will be on hand to greet and welcome prospective students and their families to the Wellesley Hills campus, 50 Oakland St.
The open house is an opportunity for prospective students to meet and talk with current students, faculty and staff to learn about the 70 degree and certificate programs offered at MassBay and transfer opportunities.
