E-ZPass "Payment for driving on toll road"

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) E-ZPass program today is alerting E-ZPass customers about an e-mail phishing scam. Some E-ZPass customers in Massachusetts and other states have received an e-mail from “E-ZPass Customer Service Center” with the subject, “Payment for driving on toll road.” 

Please be advised that this is NOT a communication from E-ZPass, but is likely a phishing scam. E-ZPass advises you not to open or respond to that message.

If you have any questions about the validity of any message received from E-ZPass, please contact the E-ZPass Customer Service Center for guidance at Telephone: 1-877-627-7745.

 The scammers are always trying something new. The reason they try is they are successful enough times to make it worth while. Be alert. If the email is suspicious, don't open it. Delete it.

Franklin Historical Museum: The Wedding Dresses are back. Now through the end of July

A display of wedding dresses from the museum's collection as well as gowns on loan fill the museum with beauty, elegance and nostalgia. Learn a little bit about the history of the wedding gown style and when a famous royal greatly influenced style, making white the color of choice for brides. 

The ever popular Parachute dress made from a Japanese parachute sent home to the bride Emma Veluti by her groom Edward Rabioli during WWII. This 1940's gown designed by Ida Santoro features a beautiful 15ft court train. 

A new gown on display this year was worn by Stella Kehoyas in 1956 when she married Nicholas Jeon. Many Franklin residents will remember that Stella and Nick Jeon ran 'Jimmies' uptown, on the bridge for many years. Stella went on to entertain with her thoughtful interviews of notable Franklin residents. 

Another new gown in the exhibit represents the beautiful detail of the modern age and was worn by the late Cheryl Getchell at her 1993 wedding to Michael Vendetti. 

The oldest gown in the collection, made with whalebone stays in the lace trimmed bodice, is the 1890 dress worn by Julia Clausmeyer when she married her groom John Daesen. Lace from this gown was used 45 years later to make the hat that completed the outfit of Mrs. Daesen's daughter, Florence May Daesen at her 1935 marriage to Edward Murphy. 

The delicate white chiffon dress worn by Jeannett LaBastie on the day she wed Edmund Pisani is also part of the display. 

The gowns are accompanied by photos, stories and memorabilia that complete the picture of the dresses and the brides that wore them.

The updated curb side recycling and trash information arrived in the mail this week. The listing of holidays that alters the pickup schedule is one of the key items in the flyer. Our normal pick up is Wednesday and knowing if this week is 'normal' or not helps.

MassBudget: Analyzing the Legislature's FY 2015 Budget

MassBudget    Information.    Participation.  Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center    Democracy. Analyzing the Legislature's Budget for FY 2015 On June 30th the Legislature enacted the state budget for the fiscal year starting July 1st 2014. While the Governor, House, and Senate had some different priorities and each introduced new initiatives, there was significantly more agreement throughout this year's process than last year. With the limited revenue available, there was a consensus on the need to keep commitments made last year:  to make needed investments in our transportation systems; to  continue restoring some of the deep funding cuts made to the state's higher education system during the 20000's; and to fund reforms of the system for paying human service providers.  The final budget also reflects a shared commitment to begin to strengthen the capacity of the state Department of Children and Families and to make new investments in substance abuse treatment and prevention. The Governor now has ten days from the enactment of the budget to sign it and veto any outside sections, line items, or portions of line items. The budget then returns to the Legislature which can either let vetoes stand or override them with a two thirds vote of the House and Senate. The Budget Monitor at this link describes funding levels and initiatives throughout the state budget and compares them to years past. "River Runs Through"

This mural, created by the Franklin community at last year's Harvest Festival, has been donated to the Franklin Food Pantry. It is being exhibited at different locations around town this summer, and right now, it's at Pour Richard's! 

Stop in to view the mural, and while you're here, please consider purchasing a raffle ticket. The winning ticket will be drawn at this fall's Harvest Festival, and the winner can decide to take the mural home or donate it to an appropriate public space: Town Hall, a school, the library, etc.
