WMRC First Class Radio Sports to broadcast the Patriots and Bruins

WMRC SIGNS BLOCKBUSTER DEAL WITH NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, BOSTON BRUINS AND CBS RADIO BOSTON
WMRC 1490AM-First Class Media has just completed negotiations with CBS Radio Boston, and has finalized an agreement that will bring both the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins to the WMRC airwaves beginning this fall. WMRC has been a Boston Red Sox affiliate for over 25 years, and also carry Boston College Football and Basketball.

Howie Sylvester, Executive Producer for CBS Boston & 98.5 the Sports Hub said "We're thrilled to partner with WMRC-First Class Radio to carry both the New England Patriot's and Boston Bruins...WMRC has been a staple in the Greater Milford region for generations, and we are well aware of the passionate, loyal sports fans who live, work and play in that market, this is a great partnership"

The three teams now heard on WMRC 1490AM have done a lot of celebrating since 2002 as their championships include 3 Superbowl Victories, 3 World Series Titles and a Stanley Cup in 2011.

WMRC President Tom McAuliffe added "This is a fantastic partnership for WMRC, our listeners and our loyal sponsors...I'm thrilled to have the tough negotiations behind us, and know that we'll now be able to carry the Sox, Bruins and New England Patriot's for years to come."

Fund raising weekend for cancer (photo essay)

As much as cancer is an insidious disease, it is heartening to see the community turn out to support fund raising efforts. There were two separate fund raisers this past weekend. (1) The Relay for Life held at Tri-County Voc Tech and (2) the PMC Kids Ride at the Jefferson School.

Friday evening, we were able to walk between the showers. My wife participated as part of the Oak St Team.

Last day for Kindergarten today

It is that time of year, kindergartners finish today and the remaining classes finish on Friday. Unfortunately, Keller-Sullivan doesn't finish until Monday (6/23) due to a day they missed for a facility problem.

What's going in at the rockpile?

The 'rockpile' near the entrance of Chestnut Ridge as you come into Franklin westbound on RT 140 is undergoing some site prep work. I recall some meetings where it was discussed putting a food market there but had lost track of what was approved. It sat unused and untouched until recently when the construction fences were straightened up, some signs appeared and then earth moving equipment appeared.

fencing along RT 140 around site

As I usually go by the site early in the morning on the weekend, no one is working. I reached out to the Planning and Community Development Dept and received the following answer from Beth Dahlstrom, the Town Planner.
"It is a congregate living facility at 485 East Central Street, approved by the Planning Board on April 22, 2013.  The details of the facility are described in the attached public hearing notice."

The following notice will be published in the Milford Daily Newspaper on
Monday, March 11, 2013 and again on Monday, March 18, 2013
_______________________________________________________________________
FRANKLIN PLANNING BOARD
PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

In accordance with the Town of Franklin Zoning By-Laws, the Franklin Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 7:30 PM in the Town Council Chambers of the Franklin Municipal Building, 355 East Central Street, for a Site Plan application titled “Franklin Retirement Residence” dated March 6, 2013, prepared by Midpoint Engineering & Consulting and submitted by Lenity Group, LLC, 3159 Kettle CT, SE, Salem, OR 97301. The site is approximately 9.51 acres and is located at 485 East Central Street in the Commercial II Zoning District (Assessor’s Map 284 Lot 006). The applicant is proposing to build a 136-unit congregate living facility for seniors who are still ambulatory but in need of some support. The proposed building design includes wing ends and a building center that steps down from 3-, to 2- to 1-story; in addition, there are 87 parking spaces proposed, landscaping, drainage and associated infrastructure.
Please contact the Department of Planning and Community Development at (508) 520-4907 if you require further information or if you need to make arrangements to provide translation services for the hearing impaired, or for persons with language barriers.
Copies of the plan and supporting documentation may be reviewed in the Department of Planning and Community Development during regular office hours.

"It's a really nice collaboration"

You may recall that the Dave Matthews Band was helping the Food Pantry. How much help did they provide?
This year, Lynch said, the pantry convinced Reverb to invite Hoffmann Farm, run by Nick Hoffmann, who started his community-supported agriculture program anew in 2012 after moving to Franklin from New Braintree.
At the show last Saturday, the pantry and the farm had two booths set up in the concourse. The pantry collected more than 500 pounds of food and $2,400 to purchase produce from Hoffmann.
And both were able to get some exposure, as thousands of people attended the show.
You can read the full article in the Milford Daily News here

What will the $2,400 be used for?
The Food Pantry already purchases some Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares from Hoffman Farms to provide fresh produce to our neighbors. These funds will either add to this program for this year or next year. The Hoffman Farm is located on Daniels St in Franklin.
