The track and field were opened temporarily for the FHS football on Friday night.
How much less will the cost be due to the $1,000/day penalty the contractor is being assessed?

FHS field hockey falls to Walpole 3-0

From Hockomock Sports we share the results of the Franklin High School field hockey team results from Saturday, Sep 23.

Field Hockey = Franklin, 0 vs. Walpole, 3 – Final
– Franklin junior goalie Anna Jardine made a highlight-reel save with a beautiful slide tackle on a breakaway as one of her career-high 16 saves but the Panthers fell to state perennial power Walpole. FHS head coach Lisa Cropper noted sophomore Maeve Ledwith and junior Cassi Ronan also played well for Franklin.

The TC Insider

September 22, 2017

To the Tri-County Community,

We are off on another school year adventure! It's like starting two school years here at TC an "A" school year and a "B" school year. Forty-two seniors got off to a quick start this week with Cooperative Education working full-time at a number of different local companies. Many other seniors are in the process of getting approved for Co-op as well. Our freshmen have survived one exploratory cycle last week and begin their academics in earnest this week. We welcomed Mr. Silva, our new Asst. Principal, to TC a couple of weeks ago. Mr. Silva has blended right in getting to know the students and teachers.

All of our fall athletic programs have begun their season including our new Girls Junior Varsity Soccer Team. We wish Coach Martin well in their first season. Our clubs and activities are getting underway with many students taking advantage of the opportunity to participate. Fall is always a very busy time at TC with the next two weeks bringing our freshmen-junior Parent Orientation this week and our sophomore-senior Parent Orientation next week. We will be holding our annual Showcase Spectacular this year on Saturday, November 4th.  The Showcase Spectacular is an event for all people in our communities to visit Tri-County and see all the great career-focused programs we have to offer. We hope to see you and your family there.

Lastly, the 2017-18 school year will be a New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) self-study year as we will have our decennial accreditation visit next school year. The NEASC self-study will take up most of our early release days.

Thanks for your support,
Mr. Procaccini

In the News: background check revision proposed; social emotional learning focus

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"THE ISSUE: Background checks for school employees don’t include reports of abuse or neglect of disabled adults. THE IMPACT: While there are no known incidents involving school employees with records of abusing disabled adults, pending legislation would include such records in the background-check process.
While background checks are standard procedure for anyone working in a school, some say a gap in the system could put children at risk.
Under the current system, the Department of Children and Families provides information about whether a prospective school employee has ever been the subject of substantiated reports of child abuse or neglect. Reports of abuse or neglect of adults with disabilities, however, are not provided."

"THE ISSUE: Some educators say focusing on social-emotional learning can better prepare students for future success.
THE IMPACT: Nine Massachusetts school districts have joined a new program to develop and implement social-emotional learning strategies in everyday classroom activities.

Nine Massachusetts school districts are partnering in a new program to help children build the social and emotional base they need to develop skills such as perseverance, empathy, self-awareness and healthy decision-making.
The Excellence through Social-Emotional Learning, or exSEL, network, is intended to help schools better teach students to appropriately navigate social interactions, understand their emotions and be aware of their own strengths and weaknesses in positive ways. Developing children’s social and emotional sides can set them up for future success in life and help them deal with issues such as depression, anxiety and bullying, program participants say."
