In the News: Franklin Police hiring; Patty Larkin to play Circle of Friends

From the Milford Daily News, articles of interest for Franklin:
"The Franklin Police Department is accepting applications for academy-trained patrol officers. 
Applicants must be graduates of the Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) Police Academy, or have experience in law enforcement or a similar field. 
Candidates must have an associate’s degree or an honorable discharge from the military or two years of good standing service to be considered for the position. If a candidate is hired based on military experience they will have 42 months to receive an associate’s degree. The deadline to apply is March 1."

FM #140: Economic Development Committee meeting - Feb 21, 2018 (audio)

This internet radio show or podcast is number 140 in the series for Franklin Matters.


This recording is of the Economic Development subcommittee of the Town Council.
The meeting was held in Room 205 on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 beginning at 6:00 PM.
The subcommittee is chaired by Tom Mercer. Members are Melanie Hamblen,
Eamon McCarthy Earls, and Glenn Jones. Town Planning Director Bryan Taberner
and Town Planner Amy Love also participated along with Town Administrator Jeff Nutting
and Deputy Administrator Jamie Hellen. Resident and multi-small business owner
Rich Frongillo participated for the sign discussion.
The meeting runs just under an 1 hour and 30 minutes.


Note: the draft documents referred to are not (yet) available online. Based upon the discussion, updated versions of them will be brought back to the subcommittee before going to the Town Council for further discussion and action.

“I ended up here for a reason"

Josh Perry, Managing Editor of HockomockSports.com, provides a nice write up on former FHS basketball player Alicia Kutil.

"Five years ago, former Franklin High standout Alicia Kutil nearly stepped away from her dream of playing college basketball when she transferred from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. to UMass Amherst. In search of the right fit for her personally, Kutil’s basketball career was given a second chance by UMass Dartmouth, which had recruited her during her time at Franklin. 
Just two weeks ago, Kutil, now a senior captain for the Corsairs, took a cross-court pass and fired up a three-pointer from the left wing in the final minute of a comfortable win against Little east Conference (LEC) rival Eastern Connecticut. With that three, Kutil became the all-time leading scorer in the program’s history. 
Not every path to success is a straight line. 
“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Kutil in a phone conversation the day before UMass Dartmouth faced Eastern Conn. in the LEC semifinal. “I’m still kind of in shock about. On senior night they talked about it before me and my family walked out and I think that’s when it hit me. It’s crazy! I really never thought in a million years that would be me.”

FHS girls hockey playoff begins Tuesday

Via HockomockSports and Twitter we share the news of the FHS hockey playoff seeds and schedule for the girls team. The boys schedule is not yet available.
GIRLS = Division 1
#13 Franklin (13-3-4) will play #20 Belmont (12-7-1) on Tuesday, 2/27 at 7:30 at Pirelli Veterans Arena in Franklin.
