Recreation Dept raising awareness on trash vs. recycling

"We are trying to do our best as a community to raise awareness of what is trash and what is recycling at Franklin fields. We put out two attachments which should help educate the public. Perhaps we can share this with the kids so they can help with our recycling efforts in Town."

Lifelong Community Learning Announces Nov. 16 Workshop Series - "Covering the Child Care Bases"

Lifelong Community Learning has scheduled a Saturday, Nov. 16 childcare education workshop series for caregivers titled “Covering the Child Care Bases” with Donna Shea. 

This series runs from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM and will take place at Franklin High School. The cost to participants is $75. Pre-registration is required. 

The timely series will cover the following topics:

*8:45-10 AM - Supporting the Anxious Child - Anxiety in children can often present itself as a behavior problem. This workshop will explore anxiety in children and its impact on behavior. It will include learning how to recognize anxiety, knowing the questions to ask & strategies to help a child manage their worries.

*10:15-11:30 AM - What is Your Peersonality? Evaluating Soft Skills in the Workplace - This workshop focuses on soft skills (social skills) for adults in the workplace. In this workshop, we take a look at the different barriers that adults face & different personalities that play into social success at work.

*11:45-1 PM Shshh! - This Is the Library: How to Deal with Clients & Customer-Challenging Public Behaviors - Employees of public places often experience the need to service clients & customers who may exhibit challenging behaviors. We will discuss how to look beyond the actual behavior to what need the client may actually have along with strategies to help defuse challenging situations.

Lifelong Community Learning Announces Nov. 16 Workshop Series - "Covering the Child Care Bases"

50 Great Years! Now proudly celebrating their Golden Anniversary! The smooth musical sounds of The Brothers Four have delighted millions for five exciting decades. Folk Songs and Love Songs from America, Europe, Africa and Asia round out a fabulous repertoire of acoustic tunes old and new.

The Brothers Four have played thousands of college concerts, serenaded four U.S. presidents at the White House, appeared at countless Community Concerts, performed with symphony orchestras and jazz stars and entertained in dozens of foreign countries. Internationally acclaimed, they are truly "America's Musical Ambassadors to the World." Musical million-sellers for The Brothers Four include such releases as Greenfields, Yellow Bird, Try to Remember, Across the Wide Missouri. Their hit recording of The Green Leaves of Summer from the motion picture "The Alamo" was nominated for an Academy Award and they performed the song at the awards presentation for the global network telecast.

Fraternity brothers at the University of Washington in Seattle, The Brothers Four began singing together in 1956 and by the 1960s they had become America's Musical Ambassadors to the World. They were pioneers in the musical movement which came to be know as the "folk revival", and of the few groups from those times still performing today, they remain one of the best known and most popular. Their all-acoustic presentation consists of guitars, banjo, mandolin, upright bass, and of course the trademark rich blend of their four voices. An evening with this quartet is an unforgettable time of pure, acoustic music and entertainment.

The full-time lineup of The Brothers Four, as solid as ever, now includes Mike McCoy, a veteran folk performer and singer/songwriter, a native of Washington State who has performed with The Brothers Four on special recording projects and occasional stage presentations since the late 1960's; Washington native, Karl Olsen, folk performer, choral director, writer and arranger, the latest addition to the group, blending his sparkling vocal and guitar skills smoothly into the sound of The Brothers Four; Washington State's Mark Pearson, guitarist, banjo player extraordinaire and singer/songwriter who has been such a strong and consistent part of the Group's signature sound since he originally joined in the late 1960's; along with Founding Member, Seattle native, Bob Flick, bass player, group leader and singer/songwriter.

Registry of Deeds Celebrates Building Rededication and Publication of Notable Land Records Book Volume 2

	Registry of Deeds Celebrates Building Rededication and Publication of Notable Land Records Book Volume 2 It was an event to hail the new as well as the old as Norfolk County Register of Deeds William P. O'Donnell celebrated the rededication of the 116 year old Registry building as well as the launching of its new Volume 2 Edition of its Notable Land Records book. The Register, with President John Adams at his side, gave a brief history lesson about a building which today is the repository of more than 8 million Norfolk County land records. "The old Registry building, located in Dedham, was built on land previously owned by Fisher Ames, a prominent member of the Federalist Party. Construction of this building began in 1903 and was completed in 1905." Additionally, the Register mentioned how shrewd Norfolk County residents were to have purchased the land through legislation back in 1899 for $17,198. O'Donnell also talked about the renovations and repairs that have taken place during the past few years. "We have done our best to preserve and improve the Registry of Deeds building including repairs to the granite outside edifice, a new roof, a new boiler, repaired ceilings and moldings, new wiring, more research space as well as interior painting. These renovations will allow Registry of Deeds staff to better serve the public and act on its core mission of recording and maintaining Norfolk County land documents in a secure, accurate and accessible manner." During the rededication event, attendees were able to stroll throughout the building and view the many notable land record exhibits. A land record of an extraordinary individual from each of the twenty-eight Norfolk County communities was highlighted for viewing. "The Norfolk County notable land record holders highlighted in our Volume 2 book are truly a diverse group that has made contributions both locally and nationally. Among those highlighted included noted conductor Leonard Bernstein, former White House chief-of-staff Andrew Card, Jr. and Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman," noted the Register. Those who attended were also treated to the singing of the Norwood High School Madrigals. Attendees also received a Notable Land Records Volume 2 book as well as getting a chance to talk to President John Adams, who was one of four United States Presidents who were born and lived in Norfolk County. Registry of Deeds Celebrates Building Rededication

Bus shuttles replace Franklin Line service between Forge Park/495 and Franklin stations while we work on a necessary tie job replacement project to improve reliability. Shuttles will operate on a regular train schedule.

This necessary tie job replacement project will improve service and reliability on the Commuter Rail. Additional weekdays may be added as work progresses on the Franklin Line. Franklin Newcomers and Friends Club annual Craft Fair - Nov 9

SAVE THE DATE!  - Nov 9

The Franklin Newcomers and Friends Club annual Craft Fair is coming up. This non-profit fair will be held on Saturday, November 9th at Tri-Country High School in Franklin. 

Hours are 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There is a $3 entry fee - children 12 and under are free. 

In addition to almost 70 artisans, there will be a bake sale table and raffle table. We are collecting non-perishable items for the Franklin Food Pantry - thank you in advance for any donations! All proceeds are donated to local charities and non-profit organizations.

The FHS Cross Country teams participated in a first ever relay meet on Saturday, Oct 12

Entry Information and Limits 

• Each relay team must consist of 3 runners. 
• The first two legs will run 1 mile while the anchor leg will run 1.1. miles. 
• There is no limit on the number of relay teams a school may enter in each race. 
• Teams do not need to bring batons, the MSTCA will supply relay bracelets for each team. 
• Final leg must finish with the bracelet.

"Rising temperatures, eroding coastlines, fearsome storms and disappearing species.

All of these issues are raising alarm among people concerned about the specter of climate change.

“It’s not too late, but we’re not talking the distant future. We’re talking right now,” said Richard Halpern, chairman of the Franklin Democratic Town Committee’s events subcommittee.

Halpern is the force behind planning for an upcoming discussion on the subject the organization is sponsoring.

“Franklin 2050: The Climate Crisis” is set for 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Elks Lodge, 1077 Pond St."

No need to RSVP, just join us at 7:30 at “3”! We run our meetings September through May at “3” Restaurant, 461 W. Central Street, Franklin. Heavy appetizers and beverages are complimentary; a cash bar is available.

Residents of Franklin, or any surrounding town that doesn't have a Newcomers organization, are welcome to join us the 2nd Wednesday of the month (occasionally we switch Wednesdays to accommodate holidays or speakers).
