The
SAFE Coalition is hosting former Boston Celtic Chris Herren on Monday, February 29 at the Franklin High Auditorium at 7:00 pm. The talk, part of Herren's Impact Speaker Series, is designed to educate youth and at-risk populations on the importance of a healthy lifestyle, good decision making and providing "real-world" techniques on how to handle pressure within a teen's life, community or family situation.
Chris Herren's story and his redemptive rise from the depths of addiction were captured through the publication of the book,
Basketball Junkie and the release of the
ESPN Films documentary, Unguarded. Chris is a Fall River native who dreamed of playing in the NBA. That dream came true when he became a Boston Celtics player having been traded to his home town by Denver in 1999. Chris then lost it all and nearly his life to addiction and substance abuse disorder. Clean and sober since 2008, Chris now devotes his life to inspiring people of all ages. Please join us to hear Chris talk about his journey!
Be advised that this is a first come first seated event with no ticketing. We expect a large crowd, so we urge folks to get there early.
Also, there will be two Substance Abuse counselors and information tables in the FHS lobby for consultation both before and after this event. If you know anyone that is struggling with Substance Abuse disorder, please let them know that help will be available.
