Franklin Downtown Partnership: Offers Free Promotional Resource To All Franklin Businesses

If you own a small business in Franklin, the Franklin Downtown Partnership (FDP) wants to help publicize changes to your business during this time of social distancing. For example, have your business hours changed, do you offer delivery or curb-side pick up, do you sell gift cards, etc.?

Businesses should contact the FDP at Downtown.Franklin@yahoo.com so they can get their updated business information listed on the Partnership website. Businesses do not need to be an FDP member to be listed.

The FDP's goal is to provide Franklin residents with one place they can visit for all updated information on local businesses as well as one website that lists all the small businesses in Franklin that sell gift cards.

“During this time of social distancing, the Franklin Downtown Partnership is committed to helping our businesses weather this storm,” said FDP Executive Director Lisa Piana. “The FDP is currently working on a recovery plan for the months ahead to help our small businesses.”

Franklin business owners who would like to receive the monthly FDP newsletter should contact the FDP office to be added to the distribution list. The newsletter provides updates on local businesses, town news and information that affects local businesses. The FDP also provides lots of information through social media - follow the FDP on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Franklin Downtown Partnership is a nonprofit, 501©3 organization made up of more than 280 business owners, community leaders and residents working to stimulate economic development downtown and create a positive impact throughout the area.

This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 209 in the series. We are now producing this in collaboration with Franklin.TV and Franklin Public Radio (wfpr.fm).

At the Franklin (MA) Town Council meeting held on Feb 12, 2020, there was an extended discussion on housing and social services related to it.
8. PRESENTATIONS/DISCUSSIONS
a. Housing Authority - Lisa Audette, Executive Director, Franklin Housing Authority

b. Transitional Assistance Discussion - Franklin Senior Center

Several others stepped up to comment during the course of the two presentations. They introduced themselves as they began talking (per Town Council public meeting protocol)

The show notes include the link to the Senior Center document so you can follow along. The Housing Authority portion did not include a public document.

Verizon: We're here for you when the snow stops falling

Fios Logo
My VerizonSupport

As the snow continues to fall, one of the most common storm-related issues is a power outage, which can affect your Fios®  services.  If that happens, here are some quick tips to get you back up and running.
  1. To fix most issues, unplug and plug back in your Verizon equipment.
  2. Didn't work?  You may have to reset your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) by following these instructions.
  3. Still no luck?  Visit verizon.com/Outage or the My Fios app via a mobile device for answers to common questions or to submit a repair request.

Don't have the My Fios app?  Download it now.

We hope you stay warm and stay safe this winter.

Please Note: If you have fiber-optic voice service, your service requires electricity in order to work. In the event of a power outage, you won't be able to make or receive calls, including calls to 911, unless you use an alternative like a cell phone. If you have an alarm system it may not be able to contact its central monitoring station in the event of a power outage. Depending on the Verizon equipment installed at your home, backup power may be provided by a Battery Backup Unit (BBU) that uses a 12-volt battery or a PowerReserve device that uses 12 D-cell batteries that you provide. "Stop the Silence. Speak the Truth. Start the Conversation".

Patricia Byrne writes:

Patricia's son Kurt
"It’s time to Stop the Silence. It’s time to Speak the Truth. My son is a heroin addict. I want to wear a t-shirt, a hat, a pin, something. I want a suffering family member or addict to see me in the grocery store and be able to walk up and say ‘me too’. I want families to not feel isolated and alone in this hell that is Addiction. It is everywhere, and we are hiding it because we feel guilty and ashamed. I have seen in people’s eyes in the past that they knew my son was an addict. But they also didn’t know if I knew, and I wasn’t shouting it from the rooftops. So the elephant was with me everywhere I went. We lived in a small town. I was sure everyone knew. I was sure my son’s name was whispered when I wasn’t there. Yet I stayed silent.
My son is in recovery. He has been clean and sober for 16 months. It’s a miracle he’s alive. That miracle cost us a small fortune. True recovery is not cheap and it is not easy. It is not five days of detox, have a nice day. It is not a thirty day stint in rehab, have a nice life. It is a slow, slogging, exhausting crawl out of the muddy nasty pit Addiction digs under you."

Help is coming to Franklin. There is a meeting at the Franklin High School auditorium on Tuesday, June 30 - 7:00 PM to form a "Community Coalition" to address the heroin and opiate drug problem the community faces. It can be solved, not by putting additional police on the streets but by providing the support to the individuals and families that need it.

Additional information on the Community Coalition can be found here
