In the News: Exelon payment, school safety, election results

Good news for Medway on the power plant:

Exelon has made its first payment of $278,000 to the town per the Host Community Agreement, for technical and legal consultants, a water system analysis, a firefighting vehicle and emergency preparedness training as the company seeks to expand its Summer Street facility. 

At Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Michael Boynton briefed selectmen on the payment, which he called the “first phase of funding” relative to the agreement signed by the board last month.

Personnel at the town's schools are working to ensure the safety of local students, the School Committee was told in a presentation. 

The committee at its meeting last week heard a report from the district superintendent, a police officer and a consultant on efforts to shore up school security. 

Superintendent Maureen Sabolinski told the committee that students must be able to trust that they are safe before they can be instructed.

The town elected a new Town Council and its first new town clerk in decades at its election Tuesday. 

Franklin had contested races for the council, the town clerk's position, the Board of Health and the School Committee on the ballot. A sum of 3,844 of the town's nearly 22,000 registered voters came out for the election.
