FHS girls & boys basketball teams post wins, girls & boys track teams take 2nd place in Hock Championships

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on  Friday, February 7, 2025

Boys Basketball = Franklin, 58 @ Attleboro, 53 – Final
– Franklin’s Wyatt Herndon is primarily a defensive weapon for the Panthers, but the senior picked a perfect time to contribute offensively too. Herndon scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter, including a dagger three from the corner with a minute left as Franklin earned a season sweep of Attleboro to clinch at least a share of its third straight Kelley-Rex division title. Holding a three-point lead, the Panthers survived an open look from the Bombardiers on one end and Jake Olmstead found Herndon in the corner for the triple to put the visitors ahead 54-48 with a minute to go. Justice Samuels (15 points) and Caden Sullivan each hit a pair of free throws down the stretch to ice the win. Sullivan was tremendous from the jump with a trio of three-pointers in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 26 points. It was back-and-forth the entire game with Attleboro ahead (17-14) after one and again after three (41-38) while the Panthers had a slight edge at halftime (30-28). Junior Ladainian Rodrigues dropped a team-high 22 points to lead the Bombardiers, classmate Connor Houle added 14 points, and senior Dante Monestime chipped in with 10 points.

Girls Basketball = Attleboro, 48 @ Franklin, 65 – Final
– Franklin put together a dominant second quarter to double up Attleboro in the first half, rolling to a big win that maintains a tie for first atop the Kelley-Rex division with two games remaining. After taking a 14-10 lead in the first, Franklin scored 22 points in the second and build an 18-point cushion by halftime. Mallory Santos scored seven points and Chloe Fales had six in the second to help break the game open. Both teams came out firing in the third, as Santos added another seven points and Sophia Sacramone scored five in a 19-point quarter. Attleboro scored 16 in the third, including seven from Lola Ronayne. The Bombardiers win the fourth, with Tia Williamson scoring half of the team’s 14 points. Lena Malymina added seven points for Franklin in the fourth, including 4-of-4 from the line, to make sure it was a comfortable win. Santos and Malymina each scored 16 points to lead the hosts, while Fales scored 14. Ronayne finished with a career-high 17 points for the Bombardiers and Williamson scored a dozen. Jenna Callahan hit a pair of threes and scored seven points, while Avery James chipped in with six.

FHS girls indoor track team tops Attleboro on Thursday

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Thursday, January 23, 2025

Boys Indoor Track = Attleboro, 56 vs. Franklin, 44 – Final
– In a showdown for the Kelley-Rex division title, a sweep in the long jump and a 1-2 finish in the 300M helped Attleboro secure the dual and the division crown over Franklin, who won it a year ago. The Bombardiers picked up a massive nine points when Jayshawn Crosby (19-07.75) – who set a new PR and landed the top jump in the league on the night — Jaylen Outland, and Matteo Bulato not only went 1-2-3 in the dual but for the entire league. Remarkably, Franklin’s Ethan Thorne, Riley Marshall, and Aidan Thorne had the next best three jumps in the entire league as this dual made up for the top six jumps on the night. Aaron Martin and Outland went 1-2 in the 300M to add eight more points for the Bombardiers. Attleboro also secured wins from Noah Williams (shot put – league-best, 48-08.75), Sam Blaisdell (2 Mile), and Jonathan Tracey (600M). Franklin’s Peter Gubka earned 15 points on his own, taking first in the high jump, the 55M hurdles, and the 55M dash, Jack Halter added a win in the 1000M, and Kyle Twomey had a league-best time of 4:38.17 to win the 1 Mile.

Girls Indoor Track = Attleboro, 44 vs. Franklin, 56 – Final
– The teams were separated by just two points with only the relays left but Franklin made sure its lead held up as the Panthers won both the 4×200 and 4×400 relays to beat Attleboro. The team of Ella Chandaria, Grace Marinella, Jossie Camp, and Callie Joyce clocked in at 1:49.19 (second best in the league) to win the 4×200 while the team of Madison Bruno, Savannah Copeland, Lainey Costa, and Phoebe Cuneo won the 4×400 relay in 4:17.19 (second best in the league) for the Panthers. Chandaria added two individual wins in the shot put and the 55M hurdles, Annabelle Santiago won the 2 Mile, Marinella crossed first in the 55M dash, Bruno won the 1000M, and Copeland secured a first place finish in the 1 Mile. Attleboro’s S’Staarr Parham continued to dominate with wins in both the high jump and long jump while Emilia Smith (600M) and Kennedy Samuel (300M) also had individual wins for the Bombardiers.

Boys Hockey = North Attleboro, 3 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
– Franklin scored three unanswered goals in the third period to score a comeback win over North Attleboro. The Panthers built a two-goal lead over the first period and a half but the Rocketeers got hot in the final four minutes of the second with goals from Caysen Gagner, Cam Souza, and Shaun Colonna to surge ahead going into the final period. The Panthers bounced back with three straight goals of their own as Liam Lewandowski scored five minutes into the period to make it 3-3. Jack Wernig and Rocco Lampasona scored less than a minute apart with less than six minutes left in the game to put the hosts ahead 5-3. Carter Balducci scored two goals for Franklin.

FHS Alumni Ryan Martin updates via the Boston Globe:

"Franklin 5, North Attleborough 3 — The Panthers (2-6-2) netted goals on back-to-back third period possessions to beat the Red Rocketeers (3-3) in a Hockomock League matchup at Pirelli Veteran’s Arena. Senior captain Jack Wernig netted the winner with his team-leading eighth goal of the season before assisting on junior Rocco Lampasona’s first varsity score seconds later for added insurance. “Earlier in the game it wasn’t our day,” Wernig said. “But we came out hard there in the third and then it was great to find [Lampasona] for his first two points.” North Attleboro earned its only lead by outscoring Franklin 3-0 in the second period on goals from junior Caysen Gagner, senior Cam Souza, and freshman Shaun Colonna. “There were a couple tough shifts in the second,” Franklin coach Jake Brightbill said. “But these guys stuck together through adversity and took it shift by shift in the third.” Franklin senior captain Carter Balducci (5 points) led off the scoring with two straight unassisted goals in the first period."

Other winners for Franklin included Ella Chandaria (shot put, 55M hurdles), Jossie Camp (55M dash), and Meghan Griffith (1000M).
