"With five minutes left in the fourth quarter of Saturday morning’s Div. 1 state championship game at Burlington High, Franklin lined up its only corner of the second half (and only its second of the day). The Panthers had put up a stiff resistance on the other end of the field but had very few scoring opportunities.
Down by a goal to top seed Walpole, this was Franklin’s chance to try and get on the board and keep its dream of a first state title alive.
The ball came out to freshman Cade Taccini, who has scored big goals throughout this playoff run. Her blast from the top of the circle skipped through bodies in the crease but was inches wide of the post and inches from junior Tori Cahill’s tip attempt.
Walpole ran out the remaining time to finish off a 1-0 victory and clinch a third straight state title. Franklin can confidently look to the future with a young core of players who made history by reaching the program’s first final."
