Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, Sep 8, 2025

Boys Soccer = Franklin, 0 @ King Philip, 3 – Final
– After taking a one-goal lead in the first half, King Philip tallied twice inside the first 10 minutes of the second half to run away with a 3-0 win over Franklin, giving the Warriors their first win over their rivals since 2020. Junior Greyson Perachi opened the scoring just past the midway point of the first half. Senior Marco Amorim dropped a service right to the six-yard box that slipped past a defender and right to Perachi for a quick finish from in close. Just two minutes into the second half, Amorim intercepted a Franklin goal kick and was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Franklin goalie Casey Flynn made the stop on the penalty kick but KP senior George Blakesley followed up his own shot and buried the rebound to make it 2-0. Seven minutes later, Blakesley put a low shot on target that was spilled and junior Nick Wendling jumped onto the rebound and slotted a low shot into the back of the net. KP senior Brent Schneider made six saves in net for the shutout.

Girls Soccer = King Philip, 2 @ Franklin, 7 – Final
– Ava Quintin assisted both of KP’s goals. Her through ball allowed Ella McDonald to score in the first half and her corner was finished off by a Donnelle Balunos volley in the second half.

FHS field hockey and volleyball teams top KP, football falls to Canton (video)

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Friday, Sep 5, 2025

Football = Canton, 34 @ Franklin, 0 – Final

Franklin TV video for replay -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmNBcYEMFEI

"Despite not recording a first down in the first half, Franklin went into the locker room at halftime with a little bit of momentum. A goal-line stand on defense kept Canton’s lead to just two scores with the Panthers getting the ball to start the third quarter.

The hosts were one good drive from getting back into Friday night’s season opener at Pisini Stadium. Instead, a turnover on the third play gave Canton back the ball with a short field and the Bulldogs capitalized, converting the drive into a third touchdown to break the game wide open.

Behind a terrific night from senior quarterback JT Norton (20-of-32, 350 yards, three touchdowns) and from its defense (5 sacks, two forced turnovers, three first downs allowed), Canton pulled away for a convincing 34-0 win. It was Canton’s first win against Franklin since 1990, ending a string of 18 straight Franklin victories (the teams haven’t played since 2011 when the league split into two divisions).

“This is what we’ve been building towards for the last four or five years,” Canton coach Anthony Fallon. “We knew we could get here and we could do this if we did the right things and these guys bought in and they want to be at that level. We’re working on getting the program to where it used to be and where it should be.”

Field Hockey = King Philip, 1 @ Franklin, 2 – Final
– Franklin freshman Lila Reardon scored her first career goal and quickly grabbed her second, accounting for all of the the Panthers’ scoring in a crucial division win over King Philip. Reardon finished off a feed from Lily Aparo just under five minutes into the game, and then finished off a chance from Addi Weiss just over four minutes into the second. King Philip pulled one back early in the fourth quarter when Abbey Pompei redirected Ella Morgan’s tip off a shot from Tayla McDuff, but the Warriors were unable to solve Franklin goalie Devon Barry (seven saves) the rest of the way. Lauren Griffin had a strong game in net for the Warriors with seven saves. Franklin coach Michelle Hess noted the great defensive effort of Jossie Camp as well as a strong performance from Aparo.

Volleyball = King Philip, 2 @ Franklin, 3 – Final
– Franklin battled back from a 2–1 deficit to edge King Philip in five sets (15–25, 25–22, 18–25, 25–17, 15–8). Despite the loss, KP had strong performances across the board, led by senior Cece Kilroy with 13 kills, 10 digs, and seven aces. Senior captain Shayne Dugan added nine kills, senior captain Caleigh Shore recorded 21 digs, and junior Amie O’Neil chipped in seven kills.

FHS field hockey team opens fall season topping Oliver Ames (video)

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, Sep 3, 2025

Field Hockey = Oliver Ames, 1 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
– Franklin built a three-goal lead in the first half and never looked back to open the season with a 5-1 win over visiting Oliver Ames. Junior Ella Marzullo opened the scoring five minutes into the game, finishing off a pass from Addi Weiss to give the hosts an early advantage. Franklin then tallied twice in quick succession in the second as Penelope Brady and Ava Lucenta scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart. Brady (from Marzullo) got her second just before the midway point of the third to make it 4-0, and Weiss buried a chance on a corner with both Brady and Lucenta setting it up to make it 5-0. OA senior Linda Cooper got the Tigers on the board with nine minutes left in the game. Devon Barry made three saves in the win for Franklin.

Volleyball = Oliver Ames, 3 @ Franklin, 1 – Final
Ryan Lanigan || HockomockSports Editor provides the game recap:
For Oliver Ames, the first two sets of the new season certainly felt like a continuation of a year ago when the Tigers reached the state championship.

With the lineup filled with mostly returning players, Oliver Ames landed some big swings, kept their serves in play, and played some tremendous defense that prevented Franklin from creating any sort of momentum to race out to a 2-0 lead.

A third set letdown allowed the Panthers to stay alive, and after both teams seemed to find their footing again in the fourth, Franklin was on the verge of forcing a fifth and final set when an OA hitting error put the hosts ahead, 23-17.

But one point led to another, which led to another — a kill apiece from juniors Claire Kenny in the middle and Taylor Donohue on the outside, sandwiched around a hitting error from the Panthers — and the six-point deficit was cut in half. Junior setter Lyla McDonough took advantage of a nice pass from classmate Molly Milliken and set up Kenny on a quick set for another kill, and just like that, it was a two-point game.

Franklin High School Wraps Up Successful Fall Season, 3 Coaches Awarded

Superintendent Lucas Giguere and Athletic Director Karrah Ellis are pleased to share that, with 460 student-athletes participating, Franklin High School wrapped up its fall sports season with every team qualified for the MIAA state tournament and a chance to win a championship title.

Some of the highlights for the fall season at Franklin High School include the following:
  • The Franklin High field hockey team finished the regular season as Hockomock Kelly-Rex Champions, advancing to the Elite 8 Round in the MIAA state tournament.
  • The volleyball team finished second place in the league and advanced to the Round of 8 in the MIAA state tournament.
  • The Panthers cheer team went undefeated in all of its competitions, finishing the season as Hockomock League champions, MSAA South Regional champions and MSAA state champions.
  • The varsity football team qualified for the MIAA state tournament as the No. 9 seed, playing in the Round of 16.
  • The boys soccer team finished the season as Hockomock League Kelly-Rex division champions, advancing to the Elite 8 Round in the MIAA state tournament.
  • The girls soccer team finished in second place in the Kelly-Rex division, advancing to the Round of 16 in the MIAA state tournament.
  • The boys cross country team finished in second place in its league for regular season meets, and the team qualified for the MIAA Division 1 Championship Meet.
  • The girls cross country team finished the season as Hockomock League Kelly-Rex Champions. The team also qualified for the MIAA Division 1 Championship Meet.
  • The Unified basketball team played in the Special Olympics Jamboree held at Sharon High School to cap off the regular season. The team also hosted a special community night on Nov. 25, playing against another team composed of representatives from the Franklin Police Department, Franklin Fire Department, Franklin High School faculty and Unified alumni.
  • The Franklin High golf team finished its regular season as Hockomock League Kelly-Rex co-champions, and the team qualified for the MIAA Division 1 state championship final.
Looking toward the winter, Franklin High is supporting a new sport: varsity level alpine skiing. Franklin participates in an “alpine ski co-op” with Nipmuc Regional High School. Practices and races will be held at Ward Hill in Shrewsbury. Participation in the co-op comes at no cost for Franklin High School.
FHS Sports: Fall 2024
FHS Sports: Fall 2024

“We are thrilled to be able to add a new sport and provide opportunities for our student-athletes,” said Athletic Director Karrah Ellis.

Franklin High School is also continuing to support girls ice hockey, as critically low participation rates currently challenge the program. There are currently only 15 student-athletes on the girls ice hockey team at Franklin High. However, the team is seeking additional players, including a group of eighth graders that will soon be added to alleviate the problem, as permitted through a waiver filed with the MIAA District Athletic Committee by the school.

“Unfortunately, as is the trend across the state, numbers for girls ice hockey are down significantly,” Athletic Director Ellis said. “Those numbers are critically low safety wise in Franklin, but the addition of eighth graders will alleviate that issue.”

In addition to the regular season success of all its teams, three Franklin High School coaches were named Coach of the Year for 2023 through 2024 for their respective sports by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. The Coach of the Year award recipients, who were recognized during an MIAA banquet on Dec. 11, include CJ Neely, head coach of the boys varsity basketball team, Lisa Burger, head coach of the Unified track team, and Jess Pridham, former coach of the boys and girls swim team.

Superintendent Giguere congratulated these coaches and all the student-athletes for their victories in fall 2024, while wishing Franklin High School’s winter sports athletes a safe, successful season ahead.

“Thank you to Athletic Director Karrah Ellis and all of our coaches who do so much work behind the scenes to provide opportunities for our student-athletes to succeed,” Superintendent Giguere said. “Thank you to all of the families, faculty, community members and student athletes that helped make this fall a successful season for all of our teams at Franklin High School.”

"Been there, done that.

And they’ve done it again.

For the second straight game, Franklin erased a one-goal deficit on the road and emerged with a thrilling overtime win, this time a 2-1 verdict at Brockton after senior Wyatt Herndon buried the winner in the 90th minute.

“It was amazing [to see it go in] and to be able to celebrate with my teammates and my friends on the sideline,” Herndon said. “Trust is a big part of our team success, we all trust one another. I trust all those guys and in that moment, they trusted me. When I saw the space, I called Josh [Rappa] off there and he left it for me.”

Franklin was able to keep things solid, defending from front to back as a team, kept Feehan scoreless for 66 minutes, and held a one-goal lead. The Shamrocks equalized with 14 minutes to play and, after a pair of scoreless overtime periods, keeper Abigail Marsolais made three saves in the shootout to secure the 2-1 win (3-1 in PKs).

Despite the disappointment of the loss, Franklin coach Jodi Klein was proud of her team’s fight and the Panthers proving that they can play with the best teams in the state."

Visiting Wachusett mounted a comeback in the second half to erase the Panthers’ two-goal lead but now in the postseason, Franklin had one final chance at redemption."

Field Hockey
Division 1 = #26 Attleboro, 0 @ #7 Franklin, 2 – Final

Ryan Lanigan, the founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com provides the game recap:
"It wasn’t easy, but Franklin completed its season sweep of Hockomock League rival Attleboro.

After beating them twice in the regular season — a 3-0 win in September and a come-from-behind victory on Oct. 17 — the seventh-seeded Panthers were matched up with the 26th-seeded Bombardiers one last time in the Round of 32 of the Division 1 tournament.

As expected, it was close from the get-go. Neither team had a shot on goal nor a corner in the first quarter, and by halftime, Franklin had the lone chance on target while Attleboro had the only corner of the half."

Both teams threw themselves all over the Attleboro High court, making sure that no point was easy and that every rally was extended. In the end, sophomore Olivia Leonardo (five kills) rose up and fired a cross-court shot to seal the victory.

It was a grind and closer than the scores indicated, but Attleboro pulled out a 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 16-25, 25-18) over rival Franklin to clinch the program’s first outright league title. It was the culmination of an incredible run by this year’s senior class, which turned around a one-win team into not only a Hock power but one of the top contenders for the Div. 1 state title.

“I was not willing to say that before tonight,” Attleboro coach Mary Katherine Runey joked about being Hock champ. “Five years ago, we won one game. It was great two years ago to win it in a tie (with Franklin and King Philip) but this feels extra special, especially with the seniors that I have. They deserve it. They’ve put their heart and soul into this program to make a lasting change.”
