Beaver St. Interceptor Project: BEAVER STREET 24/7 ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE!!

Starting Monday (6/16) at 7 AM, Beaver Street will be closed at the MBTA train tracks. The area will be closed 24 hours a day until Friday (6/20) at 4 PM.

Those needing to access 242 to 290 Beaver Street will be able to use Rt. 140 only. This includes access to Franklin Glass, Panera Fresh Dough Facility and Franklin Recreation. Access to all other locations on Beaver Street, including the Town of Franklin Recycling Center, Beaver Street Recreation Area, and the businesses on Master Drive will be accessed from Grove St.

The work on Beaver Street will continue into the week of June 23rd as well.

Monday (6/16) through Friday (6/20): The construction crew will also be working off the road within the Franklin Village Mall area to connect the new sewer main. No traffic impacts are expected.

At the Franklin Recreation Center, the construction of the new Beaver Street Interceptor Pump Station will continue with construction of the exterior building structure.

Beginning July 1 - "Carry In, Carry out" for summer Recreational programs

"Good Morning,
I wanted to share an important update with all youth sports groups regarding a new policy from the Department of Public Works (DPW) that will take effect on July 1st (FY2026).
Due to the recent failed override vote, the DPW’s operational budget has been reduced by $463,329. As a result, they will be forced to eliminate all summer help and significantly scale back trash and recycling services at town fields and facilities.
Beginning July 1, all coaches, parents, and players must follow a “Carry In – Carry Out” policy for all trash and recyclables. Please help us spread the word and ensure that everyone participating in youth sports is aware of this change.

Notice of Temporary Office Relocation
for Franklin Recreation

The Franklin Recreation Department will be temporarily relocating its office to Parmenter Elementary School (235 Wachusett Street) beginning Monday, June 23, 2025.

To accommodate the move, please note:

The Recreation Office will be CLOSED on Friday, June 20
The relocation will occur on Friday, June 20, following the last day of school at Parmenter on June 18

All programs and services will continue without interruption:

Pre-School Summer Camp will begin as scheduled on Monday, June 23 at Parmenter
King Street Summer Camp will also begin June 23 at King Street Memorial Park
The gym at 275 Beaver Street will remain open for select programming

Finance Committee closes out FY 2026 budget hearings (video)

The Finance Committee completed the 3rd of the series of budget hearings on the FY 2026 budget Thursday, May 1, 2025. 7 of the 8 members participated, 1 remotely (1 absent).

Quick recap

Up for review tonight were the General government departments, many of them much smaller than the Police, FIRE, DPW, and Schools covered previously but all key to Town services.
Recreation pays for itself with fee revenue from servicing 7200 kids with 3 full time personnel
Library just above the minimum required by State legislation not revised since it was enabled over 100 years ago
Town Clerk's office runs the annual census, dog licenses, registrations, and this year 2 elections; the special override election June 3 and the local election in November (Town Council, School Cmte and other elected positions, including this year the Town Clerk).
Senior Center has a minimal expense budget most of it is personnel and a good portion of it is covered by fee revenue or grants. Still working on how to fine tune it, won't likely get to the fee supported status of the Recreation Dept. May 15 ribbon cutting for the van and gazebo at the Senior Center (10 AM)
