FHS baseball drops 1 run game to KP to end playoff run

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports playoff results for Franklin High School on Monday, June 9, 2025

Baseball = Division 1
#12 Franklin, 1 @ #4 King Philip, 2 – Final

Franklin TV video for replay -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3Mzrnp_Ez0

"The night before Monday’s Div. 1 quarterfinal against rival Franklin at Lombard Field, senior Alex Lutfy dreamed of coming to the plate with the game on the line and delivering the game-winning hit.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, that dream came true.

Catcher Leo Dowling singled to left with one out in the seventh. Courtesy runner Collin Hasenfus advanced to second on a Vinny Menendez bunt and took third on a wild pitch. Franklin reliever DJ Silverstein intentionally walked Drew Herlin and, after falling behind in the count, Aiden Astorino to load the bases.

Lutfy walked to the plate with two of KP’s three hits in the game. He went with a pitch, driving it to deep left and just out of the reach of Franklin left fielder Owen Pennini. The ball bounced up against the fence for a game-winning, walk-off single that secured a 2-1 win (KP’s third one-run win against the Panthers this season) and a third Final Four appearance in the last four years."

FHS girls tennis teams tops Hopkinton to advance in playoffs

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports playoff results for Franklin High School on Thursday, May 29, 2025

Boys Tennis = Division 1
#28 Franklin, 0 @ #5 Concord-Carlisle, 5 – Final

Girls Tennis = Division 1
#20 Hopkinton, 2 @ #13 Franklin, 3 – Final
– Both of Franklin’s double teams staged improbable comebacks to help the Panthers pick up a 3-2 win in the opening round of the state tournament. Franklin’s first doubles team of Brooke Daniels and Sydney Tolonen dropped the first set (2-6) and fell behind 2-5 in the second before rallying to win five of the next six games to take the second 7-6 and force a third, where they battled to a 6-4 win to get a crucial point. At second doubles, the team of Avalon Thomes and Katie Yelle fended off three match points before rallying to take the point. The duo fell behind after dropping the first set (3-6) but bounced back to take the second (6-4) and then kept the match going by fending off those match points down 4-5 in the third. Thomes and Powers took the game and won two more in a row to win the third 7-5. Freshman Anna Powers was Franklin’s lone singles winner, prevailing in three sets (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) at third singles.
"Panthers win thrilling 1st round playoff match over Hopkinton 3-2!!
All 3 wins go 3 sets with Anna Powers winning in singles.
Brooke Daniels & Sydney Tolonen were down 2-5 in 2nd set to come back and win.  Avalon Thomes & Katie Yelle fought off 3 match points before winning 7-5"

FHS boys basketball tops Central Catholic 52-44 to gain State D1 Finals

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, March 10, 2025

MARCHING ON.....TO THE FINALS!!
MARCHING ON.....TO THE FINALS!!
By Ryan Lanigan || HockomockSports.com Editor
"Deadlocked with Central Catholic going into the fourth quarter and a trip to the Division 1 state championship in the balance, Franklin knew there was only one way to win the game.

After all, it’s what the Panthers have used all season to get to this spot.

Defense and rebounding.

Top-seeded Franklin limited the fourth-seeded Raiders to just eight points over the final eight minutes — forcing as many turnovers as Central Catholic had made field goals (3) — en route to a 52-44 win. The victory sends the Panthers to their second consecutive Division 1 state championship game."

....

"Franklin boys basketball (26-1) will take on the winner of #7 Springfield Central and #3 Newton North (being played on Tuesday) in the Division 1 state championship this coming weekend at the Tsongas Center. Date and time are yet to be announced. "

FHS boys basketball tops Bridgewater-Raynham to return to D1 Final 4

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Thursday, March 6, 2025

Boys Basketball = Division 1
#8 Bridgewater-Raynham, 50 @ #1 Franklin, 63 – Final

Josh Perry || HockomockSports.com Managing Editor, provides the game recap:
"Bridgewater-Raynham was never going to go quietly. The Trojans trailed by double digits after being held without a basket and to just a pair of free throws in the second quarter of Thursday night’s Div. 1 quarterfinal, but a 7-0 run to start the fourth saw the visitors trim the deficit to just six points.

Top seeded Franklin, last year’s D1 runner-up, needed a response to avoid the upset and book a second straight Final Four appearance.

Following a Deshawn Faulk dunk in transition, B-R had the ball under the Franklin basket with 3:30 to go. Jake Olmstead (17 points and five rebounds) picked off the inbound pass and he finished on the other end of the floor, pulling up and banking in a jumper. Wyatt Herndon then hustled to save a defensive rebound, hanging in the air and getting the ball to Caden Sullivan (24 points and 10 rebounds), who raced up the left sideline and finished at the rim.

The Franklin lead went from six with B-R in possession back up to double digits. The Panthers would close the game on a 14-7 run, including 8-of-10 at the line (after being 5-of-9 through three quarters), to close out a 63-50 victory."

FHS boys soccer playoff run ends with 0-1 loss to Xaverian on Wednesday (video)

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, November 13, 2024

Boys Soccer
Division 1 - #22 Franklin, 0 @ #14 Xaverian, 1 - Final

1-0 loss in the quarterfinals to Xaverian. The boys played their heart out for 80 minutes. Thank you to all 15 Seniors for 4 amazing seasons, Wyatt, Garrett, Matt, Nick, Jimmy, Danny, Jake, Alex C, Alex S, Richie, Connor, luke, Aidan, Jibreel, and Gabe.  https://x.com/_FranklinSoccer/status/1856872974780952655
Thank you to anyone that came to support the team, and thank you to coach for a fantastic first year. A lot to be proud of after going 16-5-1, Hockomock Champs, and a historical playoff run. Thank you.

Via Josh Perry, HockomockSports.com:
"In Westwood tonight for a D1 quarterfinal, #22 Franklin (16-4-1) trying to reach the state semifinal for the first time since winning the EMass crown in 1976 and will face #14 Xaverian (12-5-3), Panthers have won in OT in each of the last two rounds #hockomock"

"Franklin with all of the best chances so far and now the Panthers hit the bar twice inside a minute, Danny Reis (I think) had the first one with a shot from 40 yards and then Wyatt Herndon hit a line drive from 25 yards that struck woodwork as well, still 0-0 #hockomock"

"Halftime: Franklin 0, Xaverian 0, Panthers had the better chances, including the two crossbars, but couldn’t find a breakthrough and the Hawks nearly got one against the run of play when Drew Logie got behind the defense and touched it just wide #hockomock"

"Xaverian with a flurry of chances and now the opening goal, Luke McPhillips had his shot saved and Mitchell Kisgen was there to tap in the rebound, 1-0 midway through the second half #hockomock"

"Final: Xaverian 1, Franklin 0, Franklin had a great chance go wide with 10 minutes to play and for the third straight season the Panthers have their season come to a close in the D1 quarterfinal #hockomock"

FHS Boys soccer grabs wins in OT to advance to Final 8

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Tuesday, November 5, 2024

Boys Soccer
Division 1 = #22 Franklin, 2 @ #11 Algonquin, 1 – Final (OT)
– Franklin senior Danny Reis picked the perfect time for his first career goal, smashing in the game-winner from in close as the Panthers upset #11 Algonquin on the road in overtime. The host Titans staked a 1-0 lead midway through the first and it stayed that way 10 minutes into the second half.

Franklin pulled level in the 51st minute when Matt Honekamp took a feed from Jason Proenca and quickly delivered a ball over the top of the defense. Senior Wyatt Herndon hustled to chase it down, getting around the last defender before poking it past the keeper to make it 1-1.

With just moments left in the first sudden victory overtime period, a throw from Josh Rappa was headed on by Garrett Scagliarini and after Herndon made a play for the ball, it skipped through the box to the far post where Reis came flying in and beat the keeper to it, burying the game winner.

#22 Franklin advances to play the winner of #6 Brockton and #27 Durfee, which is being played on Wednesday.
