Do you have one day a month to volunteer for FISH of Franklin?

FISH of Franklin is a non-profit organization of volunteers that provides transportation to medical appointments for Franklin residents who have no other means of transportation. Our local Franklin Chapter has been providing services to clients since 1973.

FISH volunteers are caring and compassionate men and women who devote one day a month to telephone and/or transportation for our FISH clients.

Town Council recognizes FISH, hears from Franklin Food Pantry & about the Town of Franklin Crisis Intervention Team (audio)

• Discussion: Franklin Food Pantry Update - Tina Powderly, Executive Director, provided an update on the operations with the new building, meeting increasing needs, and the generosity of the community in support of their work

• Discussion: Homelessness Report - Amy Frigulietti, Deputy Town Administrator and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), highlighted work to coordinate better the response by Town departments for the needs of individuals in some crisis. Caught the ears/eyes of some councilors due to the different definitions of homeless among Federal and State agencies

• Resolution 24-05: Termination of the Massachusetts Statewide Opioid Settlement Stabilization Fund, as well as Dedication of Revenues Thereto, as Authorized by G.L. Chapter 77 of the Acts of 2023, passed by 9-0 vote

This session of the radio show shares my recorded conversation with Barbara Steele, Nancy Rappa and Terry Robbins, all with FISH of Franklin. We had our conversation in the Franklin TV Studio conference room on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. 

The FISH of Franklin organization will be celebrating 50 years of community service this coming October 18 at Dean College. A “Save the Date” mailing was sent to the current list of volunteers and those they were able to find records for from prior years. However, they fear they may be missing some. Hence our conversation to get the word out so those who have volunteered in the past 50 years can get on the listing. 

Secondly, the FISH of Franklin are also looking for volunteers. We discussed their origin story, how the service they provide has evolved over the years, and that volunteering really is only a commitment for driving or handling the phone calls once a month. We talked of the three blessings for this volunteer effort.

FISH of Franklin Is Resuming Services

GOOD NEWS FRANKLIN!

FISH OF FRANKLIN IS RESUMING SERVICES! The Steering Committee and volunteers of FISH of Franklin are pleased to announce that, after more than a year of suspended services due to COVID-19, our volunteer service of providing rides to medical appointments for Franklin residents will begin again in May. There will be some new requirements in order to keep our volunteers and clients safe:

• all clients must be fully vaccinated and finished with the two-week waiting period following vaccination in order to receive a ride
• all drivers will also need to be fully vaccinated and finished with the two-week waiting period
• drivers and clients will be required to wear masks
• clients must be able to walk and to enter and exit vehicles and doctors’ offices without assistance.

Any Franklin resident who wishes to access this service should call the FISH line to request a ride, and leave a message with name, phone number, date and time of the appointment, and location of the appointment. The client will receive a call back from a volunteer. FISH is not an emergency service, and anyone with a medical emergency should dial 911. FISH phone number: (508) 528-2121 FISH of Franklin is a service provided by volunteers age 21 or over, and more are always welcome! Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact Chris at 508-553-3023.
