What's behind that rail fence at DelCarte? a new turtle habitat !!!

via Breeka Li Goodlander

"It’s not very often I have 13 lbs. of native seeds in my hands to throw. I enjoyed every second of it.
The DelCarte turtle habitat and biodiversity area 1 are finally seeded and ready for a winter sleep.
Curious as to what we are doing?

Tell Linkedin: Consent Matters

Last month, LinkedIn announced it would begin collecting user data to train their AI systems.

You may have missed this news, so we wanted to alert you and share how you can opt-out of having your data used to train LinkedIn's generative AI systems. We believe in consent culture which means that corporations must clearly explain how they use your personal data and get your permission before using it in new ways.

My years of experience in computer science have revealed time and again that responsible AI requires meaningful transparency and informed consent.

Join all of us at the Algorithmic Justice League and send a powerful message to LinkedIn about consent by opting out of their AI data collection program today.

You should also know that LinkedIn is not treating all users equally. European Union users are protected from automatic enrollment thanks to their data protection regulations. Clearly, LinkedIn is taking advantage of legal loopholes in the United States.

Just because platforms like LinkedIn don't charge a fee doesn't mean users like you and I automatically consent to our data being used for AI training — right? Follow the steps below (or follow this link) to opt out of having your personal data — your words and your images — used as training for LinkedIn's corporate AI systems.

  1. Go to LinkedIn, then navigate to "Settings."
  2. Choose "Data Privacy."
  3. Locate "Data for Generative AI Improvement."
  4. Toggle the button to "Off "to opt out.

Fighting for algorithmic justice takes all of us, please spread the word.

In solidarity,

Dr. Joy

President

MCOA Session - Tuesday Feb-21 - LinkedIn from the Recruiter Perspective

Interactive Workshop:
LinkedIn – The Recruiter Perspective

Tuesday, February 21st: 10:00 – 11:30 am

Join us as we present a different perspective to improving your resume. We won't teach you directly how to write a LI profile.

We're going to discuss what recruiters look for, including:

  • When do they take the time to view your profile?
  • What are they looking for?
  • What sections matter most to them?

Why you need to attend this session: Most people who advise you on what to do with your LI profile aren't LinkedIn experts, let alone hiring for positions

This session will be facilitated by Ed Lawrence, a National Certified Online Profile Expert (NCOPE) who communicates regularly with recruiters to stay current with their methods.

FM #540 - Virtual Person On Street - Brian Brannan - 05/03/21 (audio)

FM #540 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 540 in the series.

This session of the radio show shares my conversation with Brian Brannan. My first “person on the street” interview. Although we did do this via a virtual conference bridge to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period.

Brian and I get to know each other as we explore his work, Quality Assurance testing for Terrible Posture Games. Yes, this was a fun adventure. You will likely learn a thing or two. I did. Especially on how ‘gamer’ is not a good term to use these days.

The recording runs about 32 minutes, so let’s listen to my conversation with Brian

We are now producing this in collaboration with Franklin.TV and Franklin Public Radio (wfpr.fm).

This podcast is my public service effort for Franklin but we can't do it alone. We can always use your help.

How can you help?

  • If you can use the information that you find here, please tell your friends and neighbors
  • If you don't like something here, please let me know

Through this feedback loop we can continue to make improvements. I thank you for listening.

For additional information, please visit   Franklinmatters.org/  or www.franklin.news/

If you have questions or comments you can reach me directly at shersteve @ gmail dot com

The music for the intro and exit was provided by Michael Clark and the group "East of Shirley". The piece is titled "Ernesto, manana"  c. Michael Clark & Tintype Tunes, 2008 and used with their permission.

I hope you enjoy!
