Unfortunately, the photo session on Sunday at the Historical Museum has been canceled out of an abundance of caution for Mrs. Claus, all of the children, and their families.
Mrs. Claus wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and hopes to see all again next year. She also would like to remind the children to read over their school holiday break and remain safe.
Mrs. Claus to Visit the Franklin Historical Museum |
Children can listen to her read a story, pose with her for a picture and enjoy making a holiday craft. Certainly, if you have a message for Santa, Mrs. Claus will be happy to help relay it. Enjoy this annual tradition with your family.
Please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Franklin Food Pantry.

It was a “royally difficult” decision to make, but this fall’s eight-week run of the King Richard’s Faire has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Continue reading the article online (subscription may be required)
The popular Renaissance-themed faire was supposed to take place Sept. 5-Oct. 25.
“Even royalty cannot beat the coronavirus,” said the faire’s longtime producer, Bonnie Shapiro who runs the operation with her daughter, Aimee Shapiro Sedley.
Shapiro and her late husband, Richard, brought the faire to Carver in 1981. Spread over 80-acres, it transports visitors to the 16th century by offering an array of performers, artisans, hand-cranked rides, knife-throwing booths, animal attractions and period food and drink (think: bloomin’ onions and yards of beer).
The Pawtucket Red Sox today confirmed that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the cancellation of their 2020 Minor League Baseball season. International League President Randy Mobley said, “Due to the many COVID-19 related challenges that would accompany staffing team rosters for a two-month season, Major League Baseball has now advised that they will not be assigning players to the teams of Minor League Baseball in 2020.”
This year is the first in the 137-year history of the International League (founded in 1884) that no games will have been played.
The PawSox will continue their community efforts to help those affected by the coronavirus, and will continue to celebrate their 50th anniversary (1970-2020).
As Major League Baseball gears up for its season, the Boston Red Sox have discussed using McCoy Stadium as the home of some of their workouts. Schedules and details will be announced.

"After thoughtful consideration, the board of the Franklin Downtown Partnership has regretfully decided to cancel this year’s Strawberry Stroll. Normally held in June, the Strawberry Stroll is a tremendous community event attracting thousands of people to downtown Franklin. Given the current pandemic, however, it is impossible to know if such a community gathering will be possible or safe in June. So the FDP Board has decided to plan for an even larger Harvest Festival on Oct. 3, 2020.
Strawberry Stroll Canceled for 2020
In place of the Strawberry Stroll, the FDP is developing several smaller events in late summer and early fall.
“We’re considering events such as restaurant walks, small business Tuesdays, and other promotional events geared towards rebuilding local business,” said Lisa Piana, executive director of the FDP. “We are planning to hold those events once social distancing guidelines have been relaxed or removed.”
If you have some creative ideas about smaller events the FDP could organize to support local business, please email Executive Director Lisa Piana."
"Dear ArtWeek Community,
With regret that is beyond words, we are announcing the cancellation of ArtWeek 2020, our award-winning community program. We had originally hoped that a different version of the festival might be possible as we continually reassessed the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, but the ever-increasing bad news in terms of the virus and its effects, added to the increasing government restrictions on public gatherings, have led us to follow the lead of national, state, and local authorities and make this extremely difficult decision.
We realize that this is very disappointing, but we also know that many of our event hosts, partners, and sponsors are also facing similar critical decisions. Ultimately, what is most important is that you, your communities, and everyone you interact with remain safe and well, so we feel that this is the right decision to make at this time.
We have also been deeply inspired by the sense of community and creative sharing across various platforms during this time and hope that you are taking advantage of the many creative ideas that are being offered from virtual tours, online classes and activities, and the brilliant “creative acts of kindness” that are popping up everywhere.
At the same time, we know many nonprofits and creative communities are deeply suffering and urge everyone to show support however you can by making a donation or an online purchase, getting a gift certificate, or simply staying in touch to offer support. We are all in this together, and every positive action makes a big difference towards supporting a longer-term resiliency.
Sincerely,
The ArtWeek Team
