Thursday (10/29) and Friday (10/30) 7 AM to 4 PM
On Thursday (10/29) and Friday (10/30) between 7AM and 4PM, the contractor will install the sewer main near 20 Grove St. During this time, Grove St will be closed to all traffic in both directions.
Traffic will follow detour signs on Beaver St. to Rt 140.
Local traffic only will be permitted beyond the road closed signs.

During this time there will be a lane closure on West Central Street between the 99 Restaurant and BJ's. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing a new date for opening of the new ramp connecting I-90 westbound to I-495 northbound, as well as overnight ramp closures at the I-495/I-90 interchange to facilitate construction operations.
I-90 Westbound to I-495 Northbound Ramp Opening
The new I-90 westbound ramp to I-495 northbound is now scheduled to open on Saturday, September 19. This work will require a single lane closure on I-90 westbound from 8:00 PM on Friday, September 18 to 5:00 AM on Saturday, September 19. You can view a map of the new ramp here.
Overnight Ramp Closures
The I-495 northbound ramp to Route 9 East (Exit 59A) will be closed nightly from Monday, September 21 through Thursday, September 24, from 10:00 PM each night to 5:00 AM the following morning. During these overnight closures, the following detour will be in place:
Take Exit 59B (Route 9 West) to reverse direction onto I-495 southbound to access Exit 59A (Route 9 East).
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.
All scheduled work is weather dependent and/or may be impacted due to an emergency.

The purpose of the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project is to provide a safe and efficient interchange of the interstate highways I-495 & I-90. The project will replace the interchange, eliminate the old toll booth area and weaving areas, improve ramp spacing, acceleration, and deceleration lanes, and add an auxiliary lane from I-495 Northbound to Route 9. New bridges will be constructed on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 Northbound over Flanders Road, and on Fruit Street.

West Central Street (Near BJ's) Potential Lane Closure Alert: Monday (9/21) through Friday (9/25) 7 AM to 4 PM
Monday (9/21) through Friday (9/25) between 7 AM and 4 PM the contractor will work on the elevated sewer along West Central Street. During this time there will be a lane closure on West Central Street between 99 Restaurant and BJ's. Grove St - Rt 140 to RR Crossing: Tuesday (9/22)
Tuesday, September 22, between 7 AM and 4 PM, the Contractor will start reclaiming the road and preparing the area for final pavement. Grove St will remain open to traffic entering from Rt 140. Traffic approaching Rt 140 on Grove St will use the Beaver St. detour, please follow posted signs. Please plan for potential delays or seek an alternate route.
Old West Central - Between Tri-County Drive and Pond St:
Wednesday (9/23) Wednesday, September 23, between 7 AM and 4 PM, the Contractor will start reclaiming the road and preparing the area for final pavement. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the area during this time. Please plan for potential delays or seek an alternate route.
"Over the next couple of weeks, our contractor will continue to connect the remaining water services to the newly installed main along the section from Beech St to Stanwood Drive, all water line work has been completed along the section from Beech St to Pond St. They will also be repaving some of the trench patches that were previously installed within the entire project limits.
The last remaining work under this contract will be some isolated sewer repairs on Stanwood Drive. We expect all work to be completed by the end of October.
If appropriate funding is available, our plan is to reconstruct the roadway travel surface on Pine St. during next year's construction season. This will allow any trench work completed this year to settle over the winter."
Old West Central - Between Tri-County Drive and Dunkin Donuts: Traffic Rerouting Alert: Monday (9/14) through Friday (9/18)
Starting Monday, September 14, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., the Contractor will start reclaiming the road and preparing the area for final pavement. Traffic for the dead end section of Old West Central serving Ledgewood Condominiums and Franklin Crossing will be rerouted as necessary. Those residents should continue to follow the posted signs for directions on exiting and entering.

Monday (9/14) through Friday (9/18) between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., the contractor will work on the elevated sewer along West Central Street. I-90 Westbound Traffic Shift
The traffic on I-90 eastbound will be shifted to its new temporary alignment the evening of Thursday, August 27. Temporary lane closures will be in place beginning at 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, until 5:00 AM on Friday, August 28 while the traffic shift is completed. At least one travel lane will remain open at all times.
In the event of inclement weather, these construction activities will be pushed back by 24 hours and temporary lane closures will be in place beginning at 8:00 PM on Friday, August 28 until 5:00 AM on Saturday, August 29.
The new alignment is expected to remain in place until mid-2027 when the third phase of the Railroad Bridge structure is completed.

I-495 Northbound Lane Closure Began Saturday, August 15
What is Happening?
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing a right lane closure on I-495 northbound at the I-495/I-90 interchange to facilitate construction operations.
I-495 Northbound Lane Closure
The right lane closure on I-495 northbound, which began on Saturday, August 15 will remain in place for approximately three weeks. This traffic management change is required in preparation for upcoming construction staging for the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project. The right lane will remain open until the ramp to I-90 westbound and eastbound (Exit 58). Traffic traveling on I-495 north of the I-495/I-90 interchange should utilize the two left lanes.
As a reminder, there will be overnight ramp closures the I-495/I-90 interchange this week. See the traffic and construction updates page on the project website for details on which ramps are closed which nights, as well as detour routes.

Starting Monday Aug. 10, through Wednesday, Aug. 12, the contractor will install a sewer manhole and piping in front of 275 Beaver Street to direct flow into the new Sewer Pump Station. During this time the following detour will be in place:
Access Details:
- Via Rt. 140 only: Access to 242 through 290 Beaver Street, including Franklin Glass, and Franklin Recreation.
- Via Grove St. only: Access to all other locations on Beaver Street, including the Town of Franklin Recycling Center, Beaver Street Recreation Area, and businesses on Master Drive.

Take I-495 southbound to Exit 54A (West Main Street, Hopkinton) to reverse direction back to I-495 northbound.

I-495 Southbound Traffic Shift Rescheduled to August 4

The I-90 eastbound ramp to I-495 northbound (Exit 106) will be closed nightly on Tuesday, August 4, through Friday, August 7 from 11:00 PM each night to 5:00 AM the following morning. During these overnight closures, the following detour will be in place:
Take I-495 southbound to Exit 54A (West Main Street, Hopkinton) toreverse direction back to I-495 northbound.
Additionally, the I-495 northbound ramp to I-90 East and West (Exit 58) will be closed nightly on Tuesday, August 4, through Friday, August 7 from 11:00 PM each night to 5:00 AM the following morning. During these overnight closures, the following detour will be in place:
Take I-495 northbound to Exit 59B (Route 9 westbound) to reverse direction onto I-495 southbound to access I-90 East and West.
Next, the I-90 westbound ramp to I-495 northbound (Exit 106B) will be closed nightly on Wednesday, August 5 through Friday, August 7 from 11:00 PM each night to 5:00 AM the following morning. During the overnight closure, the following detour will be in place:
Take I-90 westbound to Exit 106A (I-485 southbound), then take Exit 54A to reverse direction onto I-495 northbound.
Lastly, traffic on I-495 southbound will be shifted from the median into the final alignment beginning the evening of Tuesday, August 4. This work was initially scheduled to take place the evening of Monday, August 3, but has been postponed due to weather.
This work will take place from 8:00 PM until 5:00 AM the following morning. During this time, one or more travel lanes may be temporarily closed to allow for these construction activities. At least one lane on I-495 southbound will remain open while the work occurs. Additionally, the connection to the I-90 eastbound and westbound on-ramp (Exit 58) from I-495 southbound will be moved approximately 1,000 feet south to its permanent location. Starting Monday, 7/27, the contractor will work along the Route 140 gutter line to repair the pavement and driveway aprons. The work will be contained within the southbound lane from Burger King to Beaver Street. During this time, lane closures will occur as needed on this section of RT. 140. Pond Street Easement - No Traffic Impact
Starting Tuesday, 7/28, through Thursday, 7/30, a second contractor will line a sewer manhole within the Pond Street Easement. There will be no traffic impact for this work.

Starting Monday July 20, through Friday, July 24, the contractor will be working on Beaver Street installing and testing the sewer force main. During this time the following detour will be in place:
