On Thursday (10/29) and Friday (10/30) between 7AM and 4PM, the contractor will install the sewer main near 20 Grove St. During this time, Grove St will be closed to all traffic in both directions. 

Traffic will follow detour signs on Beaver St. to Rt 140.  

Local traffic only will be permitted beyond the road closed signs.

Monday (9/21) through Friday (9/25) between 7 AM and 4 PM the contractor will work on the elevated sewer along West Central Street.  During this time there will be a lane closure on West Central Street between 99 Restaurant and BJ's. Grove St - Rt 140 to RR Crossing: Tuesday (9/22) 

Tuesday, September 22, between 7 AM and 4 PM, the Contractor will start reclaiming the road and preparing the area for final pavement.  Grove St will remain open to traffic entering from Rt 140. Traffic approaching Rt 140 on Grove St will use the Beaver St. detour, please follow posted signs. Please plan for potential delays or seek an alternate route.

Old West Central - Between Tri-County Drive and Pond St: 

Wednesday (9/23) Wednesday, September 23, between 7 AM and 4 PM, the Contractor will start reclaiming the road and preparing the area for final pavement. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the area during this time. Please plan for potential delays or seek an alternate route.

Old West Central - Between Tri-County Drive and Dunkin Donuts: Traffic Rerouting Alert: Monday (9/14) through Friday (9/18)

Starting Monday, September 14, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., the Contractor will start reclaiming the road and preparing the area for final pavement. Traffic for the dead end section of Old West Central serving Ledgewood Condominiums and Franklin Crossing will be rerouted as necessary.  Those residents should continue to follow the posted signs for directions on exiting and entering.

Starting Monday Aug. 10, through Wednesday, Aug. 12, the contractor will install a sewer manhole and piping in front of 275 Beaver Street to direct flow into the new Sewer Pump Station.   During this time the following detour will be in place:

- Via Rt. 140 only: Access to 242 through 290 Beaver Street, including Franklin Glass, and Franklin Recreation.

- Via Grove St. only: Access to all other locations on Beaver Street, including the Town of Franklin Recycling Center, Beaver Street Recreation Area, and businesses on Master Drive.

Note that lane and street closures may change as work progresses so please use caution when traveling in this area and follow all posted signs.

Pond Street Easement - No Traffic Impact

Starting Tuesday, 7/28, through Thursday, 7/30, a second contractor will line a sewer manhole within the Pond Street Easement.  There will be no traffic impact for this work.

June 17, 2026 Annual Recycling Center Permits Available Beginning July 1 Beginning July 1, 2026, the annual permit fee for the Franklin Recycling Center will increase from $35 to $50. Residents who wish to use the Recycling Center may purchase a permit sticker starting July 1 at any of the following locations: DPW Administrative Office, 257 Fisher Street Treasurer/Collector’s Office, Franklin Municipal Building, 355 East Central Street Recycling Center, 455 Beaver Street The annual permit is valid from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Our thanks to Doug Martin, P.E., Water and Sewer Superintendent for the Town of Franklin (MA) for providing us access and helping explain the workings of this new pump/life station. Thanks also to Mike Ammendolia, Construction Supervisor for Methuen Construction which built the pump/life station. This project consists of the replacement and repair of Franklin's largest piece of sewer infrastructure, originally constructed in 1914. The cost for this pump/life station installation was about $8M or about 25% of the total $30M project. The project is being financed by a SRF loan from the State of MA and the sewer user fees. Starting at 12:00 AM on Saturday, June 13, Beaver Street will close at the MBTA train tracks. This area will remain closed 24 hours a day until Monday, June 15, at 4:00 PM. A detour will be in place during this time.
