Join local historian Dr. R. A. Lawson for an annual Franklin tradition—the Halloween Cemetery Tour. Weaving the history of gravestone symbolism with local and broader New England history, Dr. Lawson brings to life the stories of our predecessors with tales of tragic death, love lost, murder, and even treason! Who needs spooky ghost stories when the real history is truly sensational? 

All are welcome. There is no cost though donations to the Franklin Historical Commission are encouraged and gratuities are accepted. 

Meet at the cemetery at 5 PM.

Franklin is one of the safest communities in America, thanks to its dedicated police force. Yet, officers operate in an outdated facility that no longer meets modern policing standards. Despite these challenges, the Franklin Police Department earned accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. A new, state-of-the-art station will provide the resources needed to keep Franklin safe for years to come.

Police Station Open House - Saturday, September 13, from 1 PM to 4 PM

The Police Station Building Committee has coordinated to hold three (3) open houses for Franklin residents to view the current and existing conditions of the facility on 911 Panther Way.

The first of the 3 is on Saturday, September 13 from 1 to 4 PM.

The second is Tuesday, September 23 beginning at 6 PM

The third and final is Sunday, October 1 beginning at 6 PM

Police Station Building Committee tours the current station built in 1991 on School District property (brief photo essay)

Chief TJ Lynch lead a small group of the Police Station Building Cmte and a few residents on a tour of the existing facility. Additional tours are being scheduled for September/October. Work is also underway to provide a video tour with Chief Lynch's narration for those who might be able to make the tours.

A brief recap of some of the existing conditions. And yes, the building is built on School property.

The only significant change within the building was the addition of this evidence storage mechanism. It will likely move to a new facility if that is the ultimate decision of the committee and community

Chair Tom Mercer and Town Administrator Jamie Hellen listen as Chief Lynch describes the space for our detectives where 7 are operating in a room that should be for 3-4

The sally port where folks under custody should be safely and securely transferred from a police vehicle to the station. It is also used as storage for multiple items that should be stored elsewhere if there was sufficient space.

"Each winter we offer Information Sessions and Building Tours so that families can learn more about the school in advance of our annual Enrollment Lottery.

It is important to note that we can not guarantee the possibility of a building tour at the time an opening becomes available so we advise attending one of these two sessions during our enrollment season.

The first half of the event is a presentation from our Administrative Team, Parents and alumni. At the conclusion of the formal presentation, building tours are lead by our middle school students and alumni.

Request for Expressions of Interest for the Purchase/Lease and Redevelopment of the Former Davis Thayer Elementary School Located at 137 West Central St. in Franklin.

The Town of Franklin is pleased to present this Request for Expressions of Interest (REI) in an effort to generate ideas for reuse of the former Davis Thayer Elementary School building and land, located at 137 West Central St.

Deadline:  Expressions of Interest must be submitted to the Purchasing Office by May 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM.

Information Sessions and Site Tours:  The Town offers you the opportunity to learn more about the site through participation in an Information Session and Site Tour scheduled for April 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM and May 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
