FHS girls lacrosse, and girls & boys tennis teams post wins on Wednesday

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, May 14, 2025

Attleboro, 5 @ Franklin, 6 – Final
– Franklin sophomore Cal McKenna escaped a bases loaded jam in the top of the fifth to halt Attleboro’s comeback bid and didn’t let the Bombardiers get a sniff at a rally the rest of the way as the Panthers earned a big 6-5 win. Franklin stormed out to a lead with a five-run first inning, taking a 6-2 advantage into the fifth inning. The Bombardiers rallied in the fifth to close the gap as Kelan Jones (2-for-3, three RBI) smacked a two-run single and Aidan Landers plated a run with a sac fly to make it 6-5. After a walk re-loaded the bases, McKenna (2.2 IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 3K) got a big strikeout to end the frame. He went on to retire the side in both the top of the sixth and seventh innings to complete the save. Franklin only had one hit in the entire game but took advantage of 10 walks and some aggressive base running to build its lead. Zach Winer had the lone hit for the Panthers and had an RBI and a run scored. Patrick Luizzi and Cole Sidwell also had an RBI for the Panthers.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 15 vs. Bishop Feehan, 6 – Final
-  Franklin defended its home turf with a key non-league win over Bishop Feehan, a potential playoff opponent based on the latest MIAA rankings. The Panthers jumped ahead by a pair of goals after the first (4-2) before outscoring the Shamrocks 5-1 in the second to take a commanding 9-3 halftime lead. Julia Flynn led the charge with four goals and six draw controls while both Gabi Consigli and Izzy Cross each chipped in with two goals and two assists. Both Sophia Sacchetti and Vera Hansen scored a hat trick as the Panthers had a well-balanced offensive attack. Clara Blongastainer (goal, two assists) played a smart game offensively, Morgan Lovell had a strong showing with four draw controls, and Kendall Mone came off the bench and helped settle the Panthers with a pair of draw controls. Callie Joyce had a standout game defensively for the Panthers in front of Maisie Streeseman (seven saves).

Softball = Franklin, 4 @ Attleboro, 9 – Final
Josh Perry, HockomockSports.com Managing Editor, provides the game recap:
"When Lola Ronayne came to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning in Wednesday afternoon’s game against Franklin, there was an air of inevitability about what was about to happen next. Attleboro’s sophomore slugger had already tied the program record for home runs in a season the inning before and, with two runners on base and one out, the Panthers were forced to pitch to her again.
Ronayne got a pitch she liked and didn’t miss. She crushed a line drive that sailed over the fence in left center, opening up a seven-run lead for the Bombardiers, and setting a new season-best with her 13th homer of the spring (breaking the previous record set by McKenzie Bergdoll in 2019).

Attleboro took advantage of Ronayne’s big day (3-for-4, two home runs, three runs, and five RBI), bouncing back from a tough loss to league leader Taunton less than 24 hours earlier to beat Franklin 9-4 and sweep the season series."

Boys Tennis = Franklin, 4 @ Attleboro, 1 – Final
– Franklin all three singles matches and took one more point from doubles to return home from Attleboro with a 4-1 win in a match that was played in pro sets. Senior Danny Reis secured an 8-0 win at first singles, senior Aaron Ramaswamy won 8-3 at second singles, and senior Gabe Terry prevailed in a tiebreak to take an 8-7 (2) verdict at third singles. Franklin’s second doubles tandem of senior Jai Kandula and junior Max Sebell grabbed a tight 8-6 win to wrap up the 4-1 win. Attleboro senior Hayden Crowley and junior Connor Houle grabbed an 8-5 win at first doubles.

Girls Tennis = Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
– In a match competed in pro sets, Franklin earned a clean sweep with just two games dropped. Gabby Cura (first singles), Izzy Trull (second singles), and Isabelle Simino completed the singles sweep for the Panthers. The team of Sydney Tolonen and Katie Yelle dropped just one game in an 8-1 win at first doubles, while Avalon Thomes and Anna Powers teamed up for an 8-0 second doubles win.

Ryan Lanigan || HockomockSports.com Editor, provides the game recap

"If there was a list of the top boys lacrosse games in Hockomock League history, there would be a new addition to it after Monday night.

Franklin sophomore Nate Walsh scored the game-winning goal with just 16 seconds left to hand the Panthers a thrilling 11-10 win over previously undefeated Mansfield in a terrific back-and-forth game under the lights at Alumni Field.

The first half featured 15 goals, nearly split evenly with the hosts holding a slight one-goal edge. Then the second half was dominated by the defenses and the goalies with the teams combining for just six goals, a 4-2 advantage for the visitors.

Both teams entered without a blemish in league play so far. With the win, Franklin extended its unbeaten streak against Hock foes to 58 in a row, dating back to 2018."

Franklin added five more in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close out the win. Allen (three RBI, run) and Addi Weiss (two RBI, two runs) each had two hits for the Panthers, Ava Florest drove in a pair, and Josie Drucker chipped in with an RBI.

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 12 @ Sharon, 10 – Final
Josh Perry, HockomockSports.com Managing Editor, provides the game recap ->
"For the second year in a row, Sharon went into halftime against perennial league power Franklin holding onto a lead. Sharon has never beaten the Panthers but on Monday afternoon at Gary Hall Stadium the Eagles looked in complete control after jumping out to a 6-1 first half lead and going into the halftime break up by four.

All Sharon needed to do was keep playing its style, at its pace, and not allow the visitors to go on a run, but there is a reason that Franklin has been at the top of the league for so many years.

The 11-time defending Kelley-Rex division champions came storming back in the second half. Franklin went on a 10-1 run between the second, third, and fourth quarters and turned a five-goal deficit into a four-goal lead. Sharon added a couple late goals, but Franklin remained perfect in Hock play with a 12-10 win.

“We told the offense that if they’re not going to start shooting, then the defense will,” first-year Franklin coach Chris Baker said about his message to the offense at halftime. “They’re a great Hock team. Every team in the Hock, this is how it is this year. If you sleep on anybody, you’re in trouble.”

Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, April 16, 2025

Baseball = Franklin, 4 @ Attleboro, 3 – Final
– Attleboro scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at third but Franklin held on for a 4-3 victory for their first league win of the season. Franklin sophomore Cal McKenna came on in relief with the tying run at second and one out and got a fly ball to center for the second out. After Attleboro pinch runner Austin Taliaferro stole third to get the tying runner a bag away from home, McKenna got a punch out to end the game. Franklin took the lead with two runs in the top of the second on an RBI ground out from Cole Sidwell and a two-out RBI double from Jack Sullivan (2-for-4, double, triple). The teams traded runs in the third with Matt Luccini bringing in a run with an RBI groundout in the top half for the Panthers while Attleboro tied it after Jeremy O’Hara reached on a dropped third strike and Aidan Landers (2-for-3, run) came home from third. Franklin tacked on what looked like an insurance run in the top of the seventh, but it proved to be the game-winner. Joey Goguen plated Drake McAlpine with a sac fly to make it 4-1. O’Hara had a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to pull the Bombardiers within a run. Michael Huntington added two hits, two stolen bases, and a run for the Bombardiers. DJ Silverstein pitched well in a no-decision, allowing just one unearned run on five hits and four walks, striking out eight in 5.1 innings for the Panthers. Nick Daley gave up just one unearned run on one hit and one walk in three innings of relief for Attleboro, striking out one.

Softball = Attleboro, 7 @ Franklin, 4 – Final
– Attleboro scored in six straight innings, building its lead over time to secure a win on the road at Franklin. The Bombardiers took the lead right off the bat in the top of the first on a two-run home run from Lola Ronayne but the Panthers responded right away, plating three in the bottom half to jump ahead: Sarah Boozang and Marley Allen each clubbed an RBI double and Addi Weiss came through with a two-out single to plate another run. From there, Attleboro scored once in five straight innings, tying the game in the top of the second when Emily Eby reached on a two-out error, and taking the lead back in the top of the third when Nina Sullivan had a two-out single to center. Eby added an RBI single in the fourth, Savannah Boedecker plated one with a sac fly in the fifth, and Jenna Callahan (ROE) scored on a wild pitch in the sixth. Ella Weston connected on an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh for the Panthers. Callahan earned the win in the circle for Attleboro, surrendering four runs on six hits and three walks, striking out a season-high 10 batters.

Boys Lacrosse = Canton, 4 @ Franklin, 10 – Final
– Canton scored three straight goals at the end of the third quarter to cut a six-goal deficit in half but Franklin and senior goalie Sam Freedman stood tall the rest of the way, winning the fourth quarter 3-0 to fend off a feisty Bulldog squad. Franklin staked a 6-1 lead at halftime and scored the first goal of the third as the lead peaked at six goals. Canton’s Cam Conley scored two of his goals in a two-minute span and Cullen O’Brien added one with 1:34 to go in the third to make it 7-4. The game stayed that way for nearly five minutes into the fourth until Quinn Kielty deposited a shot from just outside the crease. Franklin tacked on insurance goals with just under five minutes to go and another with just over a minute left into an empty net. Freedman was the main difference, turning aside 15 shots to keep Canton at bay for the majority of the game. Thomas Quinn scored a hat trick to lead Franklin while Kielty and Charlie Ballarino each had two tallies.

Girls Lacrosse = Franklin, 16 @ Canton, 0 – Final
– Senior Maisie Streesman (five saves) and freshman Codi Lai (one saved) combined to earn the shutout in net as Franklin returned home from Canton with a convincing 16-0 win. Freshman Clara Blongastainer led the charge for the visitors, scoring five goals and adding one assist for a team-high six points. Senior Julia Flynn had seven draw controls and added four goals, Izzy Cross netted a hat trick, Vera Hansen tallied twice, and both Liza Kudish and Gabi Consigli (assist) found the back of the net once in the win.

Boys Tennis = Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final
Attleboro, 0 @ Franklin, 5 – Final – Franklin freshman Deklan Morin and Anish Bokil prevailed from a three-set battle at first doubles to complete the 5-0 sweep for the Panthers. Morin and Bokil earned a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win while the team of senior Jai Kandula and Max Sebell added a 6-4, 6-1 second doubles victory. Franklin won all three singles matches in straight sets with senior Danny Reis winning at first singles (6-3, 6-2), senior Aaron Ramaswamy earning a victory at second singles (6-4, 6-3), and senior Gabe Terry securing a hard-fought third singles win (7-5, 6-3).

Girls Tennis = Franklin, 5 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final
Franklin, 5 @ Attleboro, 0 – Final – Franklin took all five matches in straight sets and the Panthers bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 5-0 sweep on the road. Via Twitter, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Spring sports competition for Franklin High School on Monday, April 14, 2025

Baseball = North Attleboro, 5 @ Franklin, 2 – Final
- Senior Brady Paradis gave up just one run in five innings while sophomore Jake Ronci came in and closed the door with a two-inning save, escaping a major jam in the sixth inning as North Attleboro bounced back from a tough loss on Thursday with an impressive win at Franklin. Paradis allowed just one unearned run in the bottom of the third with just one hit against and three walks, striking out six. With North holding a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Franklin’s Zach Winer singled and Sean Kryzak walked and the Rocketeers turned to Ronci in relief. After an infield pop up, Franklin freshman Patrick Luizzi was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Ronci got a massive strikeout and then induced a fly ball to foul territory near first base as North escaped the jam. The Rocketeers cashed in for some insurance runs in the top of the seventh as Gio Martello (single) and Paradis (error) both came home to score when Lucas Crovo reached on an infield error, pushing the lead to 5-1. The Panthers pulled one back with two outs in the bottom of the seventh but left fielder Ethan Belanger gunned a runner down at second for the final out of the game. Franklin took the lead when Matt Luccini (walk) scored on a passed ball but North went ahead with a three-run fourth inning. Nick Torres drove in Paradis and Crovo, who had back-to-back singles to start the inning and then scored on a double steal, with Bryce Silva (single) drawing Franklin’s attention at second. Winer pitched well for Franklin, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks, striking out six in 5.1 innings.

Softball = Franklin, 9 @ North Attleboro, 6 – Final
- A five-run fourth inning helped Franklin create enough separation as North Attleboro’s seventh-inning rally came up short at home. The Panthers had a 2-1 lead going into the fourth before Sophia Sacramone, Brooke Gatewood, and Ciara O’Brien all had doubles to help push the lead to 7-1. After North pulled one back in the bottom half, Sacramone (3-for-5, three doubles, three RBI, run) connected for another double, this time driving in a pair of runs. North rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh, including a two-run double from Jill Lewicki (2-for-4, two doubles, three RBI) and a sac fly from Emily Tucker. A single from freshman Lindsey DeGirolamo (3-for-4, RBI) put runners on the corners and brought the tying run up to the plate but sophomore Abby Souza got her fourth strikeout in her three-inning relief appearance for the final out. Both O’Brien (3-for-4, two RBI, run) and Marley Allen (4-for-4, two doubles, RBI, run) hit solo home runs for Franklin in the top of the second to take the lead for the first time. Sarah Boozang also had two hits, including a double, for Franklin while Molly Willey had two doubles and an RBI for North Attleboro.

Boys Lacrosse = Franklin, 10 @ Foxboro, 8 – Final
– A deflected shot from Franklin junior Thomas Quinn skipped into the back of the net with just under two minutes left, helping the Panthers escape an upset bid from Foxboro. The host Warriors stayed with the visitors for the entire game, tied at 6-6 at halftime and trailing just 9-7 going into the fourth. Foxboro sophomore Jack Taft scored the first goal of the fourth quarter with just over three minutes left to pull the hosts within one, 9-8, but Franklin didn’t let the Warriors get another shot on goal and closed out the win. Quinn, Jack O’Connor, Quinn Kielty, and Nate Walsh each scored twice for the Panthers while Charlie Ballarino and Drew McCarthy each had one. Senior Sam Freedman played well in net for the Panthers with eight saves. Foxboro freshman Bobby Hickox scored a hat trick, junior Michael McCabe tallied twice, and senior Aidan Waller (two assists) and sophomore Brayden MacKay (15-for-20 on faceoffs) each scored once.

Girls Lacrosse = Foxboro, 8 @ Franklin, 12 – Final
Franklin TV video -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vStBvwP_7Mw

Josh Perry, HockomockSports.com Managing Editor, provides the game recap ->
"With 4:03 left in Monday afternoon’s showdown at Pisini Stadium, Foxboro senior Cate Noone leapt and buried a shot from the edge of the crease to bring the Warriors back within a single goal. Noone followed that by snagging the draw control (Foxboro won five of the six in the fourth quarter) to keep momentum with the visitors.

As Noone tried to bring the ball forward, Franklin senior Julia Flynn made the biggest defensive play of the night by knocking the ball loose to force a turnover. Flynn scooped the ground ball and fired a pass into the attacking half of the field.

Following a timeout, Franklin managed to hold possession for nearly 90 seconds, running the clock down to just 2:32 remaining when Izzy Cross drove towards the goal and scored her second goal of the night and sealed a 12-8 win and extended Franklin’s decade-long league win streak to 126 games."
