THE pizza box recycle story: yes, it can be recycled (no food, moderate grease)
Derek Adams replied to my email asking for clarification on the responses raised when we had shared the pizza box recycle update earlier this week.
Derek's response: (bold added for my emphasis)
"I spent today (Friday) at the Recycling Center. Together, the lead employee and I called Miller Recycling (our vendor for cardboard at the Recycling Center). We asked whether or not they accept Pizza Boxes with grease on them. They responded that they do, in fact, accept pizza boxes with moderate grease (however, zero food waste accepted with their recycling program).Hopefully for this recycle item going forward, let Derek know (copy me please, so if there is any change, I can be sure to spread the good word.)
I have also spent this week reaching out to Waste Management. There has been discrepancies between the contacts I have at Waste Management regarding their curbside policy. Ultimately, I have received correspondence that indicates Waste Management accepts “No-Food Pizza Boxes” as recyclable material. This is our policy moving forward.
If residents find they are having issues recycling pizza boxes in their curbside recycling bins, they should feel free to contact me to mitigate any potential problems.
Thank you for bringing this issue to light! "
Derek's email is dadams@franklinma.gov

"Papa Gino’s will donate its last day of East Central Street sales to the Franklin Food Pantry"
"Papa Gino’s will close its East Central Street store at the end of the day on Sunday, but the Village Shopping Center spot will remain open.
All employees at the East Central Street store have been offered a transfer to either Franklin Village or a location nearby, according to Nicole Mazzarella, a spokeswoman for the brand.
The company is calling the move a consolidation to “more efficiently utilize our resources,” according to a press release.
“This decision has nothing to do with company performance; in fact, our sales - locally and overall - have been stronger and guest visits higher than they have been in years. The Franklin restaurant closing is rooted only in efficiency through consolidation,” said Tom Sterrett, president and COO, in a statement."

Pineapple pizza? Yes or No?
"What does pineapple pizza have to do with interference by Russia and other trolls in U.S. elections?
Everything, the head of an American cybersecurity agencies says. Because foreign governments, trying to create divisiveness, want Americans to argue and will go after low hanging fruit, like pizza toppings.
From a little-known conference put on by Fordham University and the FBI this week, DHS Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Christopher Krebs tweeted his own hot take on pineapple pizza: Thumbs down.....
CISA breaks down the playbook of foreign influencers into five steps: targeting divisive issues (see: pineapple pizza), moving accounts into place, amplifying and distorting the conversation, making the mainstream (see: NBC News story about pineapple pizza), and taking the conversation into the real world.
Krebs said his agency is trying to strengthen the national immune system for disinformation. "How do you take the tactics, techniques, and procedures of the bad guys, and educate the American people? How do you explain, 'This is how you’re being manipulated, this is how they’re hacking your brain?'"

Yes, this used to be Aroma's Caffe.
Soon it will be Andro's Pizza.
BTW - also on the food front, noticed a sign that says Nonni Roses' is now offering a full breakfast Thu-Fri-Sat.

Isabella's Menu - Page 2
Isabella's is also a good supporter of local groups and organizations. For a period of time one day during the week, they'll share a percent of the sales. As I go by almost every day coming from the train station, on most days there is a sign up for one group or another.
This is a win-win situation. Good food for a good cause!
Isabella's Menu - Page 1
Isabella's is one of the really good delis and pizza places in Franklin.
We got two full sheets of pizza for the Friday when the Sherlock's gathered at our place after Thanksgiving and did not end up with any leftovers.
Good food with a quaint pond view setting. Now with a wine and malt license, there is an added incentive to visit for pizza or a panini.
