Girls Youth Hockey clinic scheduled for Dec 30
Girls Youth Hockey clinic scheduled for Dec 30
We are very happy to confirm that we will field full Lady Flyer teams next season for both U12 and U10 (potentially 2 to include U8 ages)!

We've seen a great increase in girls hockey interest this season and as a result we have created a partnership with the Franklin High Girls Ice Hockey team for special events and a development bridge from Learn to Skate --> Lady Flyers Travel --> Franklin High School!

Our first event is Dec. 30th - come join us for a FREE girls-only skills clinic led by the varsity girls players!  This is open to ALL players no matter where you currently play, who are in an In-House, U8, U10, and U12 program.

Come have some fun and learn more about our evolving Lady Flyers travel teams!"

Ben Gardner's Boat, in the Franklin TV studio (pre-COVID-19)

In a time seemingly long ago, pre-COVID-19, Jeff Roy and his band Ben Gardner's Boat spent some time in the Franklin TV recording studio. Jeff got to post the video segments of the songs recorded. Here is one: "Collide"  https://youtu.be/TmPZULYRc-E

FYHA creates Coach Leo McGee Memorial Scholarship

"FYHA is pleased to announce the creation of the Coach Leo McGee Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a graduating Franklin High School senior who is part of either the boys or girls hockey program.

The recipient will embody what Coach Leo was to FYHA: an unsung hero with a selfless attitude; a committed leader on and off the ice; and someone willing to help anyone, at any time

It is our hope that this award will keep Coach Leo's legacy a constant source of inspiration within the youth hockey community.

We are working with Coach Sarno and Coach Burke to identify the candidates for consideration this year. He/she can be a rostered player or someone who is involved in another capacity (e.g. a team manager or student assistant).

The recipient will be announced at FHS’ Awards Night in May.

If you are interested in contributing to the scholarship fund, tax deductible donations can be made via check and mailed to FYHA (see address below).

Please put “Coach Leo Scholarship” in the memo line.

“Everyone’s really exposed to a toxic soup of these PFAS chemicals”

While the MA DEP is making the rounds seeking public input on proposed regulations, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has come out with a report showing the problem might be more than estimated.
"The contamination of US drinking water with manmade “forever chemicals” is far worse than previously estimated with some of the highest levels found in Miami, Philadelphia and New Orleans, said a report on Wednesday by an environmental watchdog group.
The chemicals, resistant to breaking down in the environment, are known as perfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS. Some have been linked to cancers, liver damage, low birth weight and other health problems.
The findings here by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) show the group’s previous estimate in 2018, based on unpublished US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data, that 110 million Americans may be contaminated with PFAS, could be far too low."
