FHS wresting falls to Milford on Wednesday

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Wednesday, January 14, 2026

Wrestling = Milford, 57 @ Franklin, 18 – Final
– Milford recorded eight pins and rolled to a big win over rival Franklin to stay unbeaten in league play through two dual meets. The meet was back-and-forth at the start, with the teams trading wins. Amelia Hough got the Hawks on the board with a second-period pin at 106 but John Woodall followed with a pin just 38 seconds into his match at 113 to tie it. Cameron Zicherman put Milford back in front with a first-period pin at 120 but Ben Ellis followed with a first-period pin of his own at 126 to bring the Panthers right back. Brayden Boccia matched them with a pin at 132 to give Milford the lead for good. Jack Sauer recorded a takedown midway through the third period to edge Dylan Wright at 138 and make it 18-15. Milford would win by fall in the next three matches to pull away. Ryan Flis oinned his opponent in the third period at 144 and Josiah Carney (150) and Kaua Reis (157) each ended their matches in the first round. Dom Joice got a first-period takedown and held off Anthony Marzullo for a hard-fought 4-2 win at 165. Wanderson Dos Santos won by forfeit at 175 to make it 45-15 and Anthony Norris followed with a second-round pin for the Hawks. Keaton Cooper took control of his match with a pair of third-period takedowns and won 9-2 at 215, Franklin’s fourth win of the meet. The match at 285 was a battle. William Best had a 6-2 lead after one period, but just when it looked like he might take Wellison Dos Santos down again, the Milford heavyweight flipped things around and finished it with a pin.

FHS boys hockey ties Taunton on Saturday

Via Instagram, Franklin TV, and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the Winter sports competition for Franklin High School on Saturday, January 10, 2026

Boys Hockey = Franklin, 1 @ Taunton, 1 – Final
"Too much of a good thing can quickly become a burden.

That was the case on Saturday afternoon when Taunton spent over nine minutes on the power play in the second period alone and ended up with just one goal to show for it.

Even worse for the Tigers was that Franklin scored in the short time of 5-on-5 play it had in the period.

Both teams had chances in the third period and overtime, but the Tigers and Panthers settled for a point apiece in a 1-1 tie at Aleixo Arena."

Boston Globe’s All-Scholastics for Winter 2024-25 recognize Sullivan, Woodall, & CJ Neeley

"The sounds of winter athletics are timeless, from the thump of a bouncing basketball in a quiet gym, the slice of a skate across ice, the thwack of skin against mat, the whoosh of waxed skis, to the splash of swimmers coming off the blocks.

While the soundtrack is ageless, there’s a new crop of high school athletes filling those gyms, rinks, tracks, pools, and slopes every season. So after crowning 31 state championship teams, it’s time to recognize the top individual athletes with the Boston Globe’s All-Scholastics for Winter 2024-25.

Chosen by a panel of Boston Globe beat writers and editors — with the exception of the prep choices — the 250 All-Scholastics, 39 athletes of the year, and 38 coaches of the year are selected using a combination of statistics, awards, notes, recommendations, and observation. Student-athletes from schools in Eastern Mass. leagues are eligible."

Boys Basketball ->  Caden Sullivan and CJ Neely recognized (Coach of the Year)

Wrestling -> Johnny Woodall

Woodall closed out his remarkable, undefeated rookie season by winning Franklin’s first New England title since 2010. The New England title was added to a trophy-laden freshman campaign, which included first-place finishes at the Lowell Holiday Tournament, the Hockomock Championship meet, Div. 1 states, and All-States. Woodall was the first New England champ from the Hock since North Attleboro Mateusz Kudra in 2019. Milford senior Michael Boulanger followed shortly after by winning the New England title at 157.

“Johnny is an extremely hard working kid that with infectious smile his competitiveness really rubbed off on the entire team,” said Franklin head coach Cam Kelly.

FHS Wrestling Results from MIAA State Championships

Via HockomockSports.com
"For the first time, three wrestlers from the Hockomock League won an all-state title in wrestling in the same season.

Milford seniors Michael Boulanger and Aidan Baum along with Franklin freshman John Woodall walked out of Methuen High School as MIAA All State champions in their respective brackets with all three wrestlers going 4-0 between the two-day event.

Woodall, who is undefeated so far this season, needed less than two minutes to secure a pin in his first match on Friday and then booked a spot in the semifinals with a second round pin over Hanover’s Conlan Geary. He scored five takedowns in his semifinal match for a 15-2 major decision to earn a spot in the finals. Going head-to-head against Greater Lowell’s Antoine Jackman, Woodall had two escapes on either end of the second period sandwiched around a takedown to jump up 5-2. He finished with a 5-3 decision to win the title. Woodall is Franklin’s first all-state champion in over a decade since Griffin Tighe (195) in 2014."
