Franklin Rod And Gun Club schedules annual Fishing Derby - June 6

June 6th is our annual Fishing Derby! Just $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and younger on gorgeous Uncas Pond, which was recently stocked with 1,200 trout.

There will be cash prizes for adults coming in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for biggest fish but all kids 16 and younger get trophies. We'll have free use of bait, gear, boats, rods & reels while supplies last. You can bring your own (non-motorized) boat as well and launch from our beach or public access road.

We'll have an all-you-can-eat breakfast for $5 or, if you don't want that, breakfast sandwiches for sale that you can bring with you while you fish. There will also be a free pizza lunch.

Raffles will be taking place throughout the day as well. It's a time-honored Franklin tradition and we can't wait to see you out there. Tight lines!!

On March 17th, we served a local hake fish bake district-wide, featuring fresh catch from the coast of Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Students at Lincoln St. School also enjoyed a hands-on seafood learning table, where they could see and touch local species harvested right here in Massachusetts."

Franklin Rod & Gun Club's 2025 Fishing Derby

People of all ages can come to Uncas Pond at 53 Florence St. in Franklin on June 7 from 7 AM to 2 PM and compete in our annual fishing derby. 

Just $10 for adults ($5 for kids) and you can catch bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, pickerel, and sunfish while enjoying a $5 all you can eat breakfast and free pizza for lunch. 

 

We'll have boats and life preservers and some extra rods/bait, and we'll have some great raffle prizes as well.

Mark your calendar for this popular event.

The Franklin Rod & Gun Club has scheduled their annual Fishing Derby on June 1, 2024. 

The flyer displays all the info. Registration is $10 for adults and $5 for kids. 

All kids under 16 get a trophy and prizes, we have free equipment to use including boats, life jackets, rods/reels (while they last). 

Breakfast is available for $5 and there's pizza for lunch for free. 

The event routinely gets more than 150 people to the Rod & Gun Club for a really great time.

Fishing4Vets: Reeling in Support for Our Nation's Heroes Through the Power of Friendly Competition and Camaraderie

The Massachusetts Military Support Foundation (MMSF) is excited to announce the fourth annual Fishing4Vets event, a charity fishing tournament designed to bring veterans and the community together for a day of camaraderie, competition, and Cape Cod's finest fishing. Taking place on June 9, 2024, this fun-filled event will raise essential funds to support our Food4Vets program, addressing the food insecurity needs of our nation's heroes.

"About 19 miles east of Boston Harbor, beside a national marine sanctuary that’s home to one of the world’s richest fishing grounds, lies one of the nation’s largest offshore dumping sites of radioactive waste. 

In less than 300 feet of water, thousands of barrels litter the seafloor, a mile-wide toxic junkyard that fishermen call “The Foul Area.” 

It’s called that because many have tangled — or fouled — their gear in the barrel field, at times even pulling up containers filled with toxic chemicals. Government reports and congressional testimony over the years have suggested the dumping ground may include plutonium and other highly dangerous materials discarded after the completion of the Manhattan Project during World War II. 

Now, the federal government is trying to bury the barrels at least three feet deep with roughly 10 million tons of sediment dredged from a $340 million project to widen shipping channels in Boston Harbor. Capping the toxic material — which includes unexploded munitions — was seen as a safer way of minimizing risks, rather than trying to bring the rusting barrels to the surface."
