Tough day for FHS hockey girls and boys teams

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Saturday, Jan 20, 2024.

Boys Hockey = Franklin, 4 @ King Philip, 5 – Final
Twitter thread via https://twitter.com/R_Lanigan
  • Highly anticipated Kelley-Rex showdown on the ice at Foxboro Sports Center. King Philip (4-1 Hockomock, 8-7-2) hosting rival Franklin (4-1, 8-7-0), winner controls its destiny in division title race
  • Sophomore Grady Bianculli throws one on net, looked covered originally but it popped loose and sophomore Joe Robison tucks it in. Great start for the Warriors up 1-0 with 12:44 left 1P
  • Deflected clearance falls right to Ben Paterson for a breakaway and last year’s Hock MVP snaps one off the iron and it’s ruled a goal. Panthers pull level, 1-1 with 10:18 left 1P
  • Paterson gets his second, left free to clean up a rebound right in front and Franklin takes a 2-1 lead with 7:10 left 1P
  • Back and forth we go. Bianculli tees up Rowan Boulger and he rips one in and now the Warriors tie it up, 2-2, with 6:38 left 1P
  • End 1P: Franklin 2, King Philip 2. Warriors struck first, Panthers jumped ahead with two in a row but the hosts pulled even — all within the first nine minutes
  • King Philip cashes in with seconds left on a 5-on-3. Bianculli’s shot partially cleared but only as far as senior Sam Naggar and his blast from the blue line finds its way through traffic. KP back up, 3-2, with 7:39 left 2P
  • Great hustle from Max Robison leads to a breakaway that's stopped but Boulger follows up and uses a nice move alone in front for a short handed goal. King Philip up 4-2, 6:24 left 2P
  • End 2P: King Philip 4, Franklin 2. Big period for the Warriors with a power play goal and a short handed goal
  • Franklin gets one back within the first minute of the third. Slip behind the net leads to a chance, Dan Daley puts one on the doorstep for Anthony Lampasona. KP lead cut to 4-3, 14:06 left 3P
  • Massive response from King Philip. Jack Morgan comes streaking down the right side and flips one in just inside the post for an unassisted goal. Warriors back up two at 5-3 with 13:05 left 3P
  • Final: King Philip 5, Franklin 4. Warriors take down the Panthers and now sit in the driver’s seat in the Kelley-Rex division with two league games left. Trevor Walmsley with 26 saves in the win

Girls Hockey = Franklin, 2 @ Medfield, 3 – Final (OT)
– Franklin scored in the third to tie the game up but Medfield pulled out the win in the extra period. Julia Flynn opened the scoring in the first period but the host Warriors potted a pair in the middle period to take a 2-1 lead. Flynn grabbed her second of the game in the third to force overtime. Lindsay Dennett, Nina Ianuzzi, Haley Wernig, and Maddie O’Brien each had an assist for the Panthers.

Tewksbury Quad (Franklin) – The Panthers went up against some of the top teams in the state, falling to Melrose (54-30), Shawsheen (58-15), and host Tewskbury (60-18). Jack Rosenberger had a successful day with three pins while Riley Carlucci had two pins.

As a little girl Cathy was aware of her unique ability. In later life, Cathy practiced as a Doctor of Chiropractic medicine and was keenly aware of her connection to those that lived in Spirit.

Cathy resides in Norfolk, Massachusetts and is now a full-time professional Medium. She offers one on one private sessions, family / friend sessions, as well as small and large group gallery sessions.

We talk path dependence, critical juncture, and behavioral changes in this Making Sense of Climate episode (audio)

FM #1138 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 1138 in the series.

This session of the radio show shares the output of The Climate Minute podcast episode hosted by Ted McIntyre, Franklin resident and climate activist. We met to record in the Franklin TV & Public Radio studio on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

The topic thread we talked of as we continued this "making sense of climate" discussion went something like this:

  • Climate Leader Community

  • State pilot to allow gas bans in 10 communities

  • Path dependence

  • Critical juncture

  • Behavioral changes underlying energy revolution/overshoot/planetary management

  • Need for new behavior now

  • End of world? Viewpoints matter.

This discussion continues our journey understanding the MA roadmap toward net zero and while it helps me “make sense of climate”, we hope it helps with your understanding as well.

If you have climate questions or Franklin specific climate questions, send them in and we’ll try to answer them in a future session.

The conversation runs about 54 minutes. Let’s listen to my conversation with Ted.

Cop28 deal will fail unless rich countries quit fossil fuels, says climate negotiator | Fossil fuels | The Guardian

"The credibility of the Cop28 agreement to “transition away” from fossil fuels rides on the world’s biggest historical polluters like the US, UK and Canada rethinking current plans to expand oil and gas production, according to the climate negotiator representing 135 developing countries.

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, Pedro Pedroso, the outgoing president of the G77 plus China bloc of developing countries, warned that the landmark deal made at last year’s climate talks in Dubai risked failing.

“We achieved some important outcomes at Cop28 but the challenge now is how we translate the deal into meaningful action for the people,” Pedroso said.

“As we speak, unless we lie to ourselves, none of the major developed countries, who are the most important historical emitters, have policies that are moving away from fossil fuels, on the contrary, they are expanding,” said Pedroso."

An Agway Story: Time to move on?

JANUARY 19, 2024 - In a world where you can be anything, be kind

HEY FRIENDS,

Neal and I have had quite a few years! Between multiple deaths of loved ones, births of loved ones and the "Long time that shall not be named" when we were abused by not so appreciative customers, we have decided it is time for us to move on and to construct a different life that will allow us to see our granddaughters and offer us some time to enjoy life again.

TO THAT END we both have found new jobs that we are enjoying and we are officially announcing that we are selling the store. While we don't know what form the store will take in the future we do suspect that it will change.

Online shopping has certainly made things more challenging. We believe the store can be a viable option for someone but the new iteration of the "Franklin Agway" will not have us at the helm.

WE HAVE HAD some great times in the past eight years and met some truly wonderful people. Choosing to work and live in the same community has really given us a deeper understanding of Franklin and it's people. Doing so has allowed us to feel at home. Working to promote farmers and thoughtful stewardship of the earth in our community has really been the most rewarding for us. Our goal has always been to invest time, energy and love into the community in which we live. Between the store and the Town Council we have come to know thousands of our
neighbors! We both are glad we made Franklin our home.

IF ANYONE HAS an interest in purchasing the business, or knows of someone who might, please reach out to us directly and please don't trouble our employees. We will be honest about the numbers and do not play games.

Peace,
Mel and Neal and the Agway Crew

What We Say Matters: A Timely Conversation Exploring the Power of Words to Shape Others and a Person’s Own Behavior - Jan 28

What We Say Matters: A Timely Conversation
Exploring the Power of Words to Shape Others
and a Person’s Own Behavior

Dr. Drew Bogner, President Emeritus of Molloy University, and a lay member of the First Universalist Society in Franklin, will speak about the power of words and phrases to shape the behavior of others and ourselves.   He will incorporate the research of Dr. Masuru Emoto on the impact of negative and positive words, and share conversations he has had on this topic with individuals ranging from Buddhist monks to Paul Rusesabagina of Hotel Rwanda. In the second part of the service, Drew will focus on how what we say to ourselves can influence how we experience the world. This includes how we can respond to caustic, hateful, and demeaning language that others use.
