Be part of Pam's Run 2017 and help the Neighbor Brigade

Franklin has an active chapter of the Neighbor Brigade. This 5K and 10K fund raiser helps the overall Neighbor Brigade organization.

Pam's Run 5K/10K will be on October 15th, 2017.

Why be a part of our 5th annual Pam's Run?
Thirsty Irish Runners had a great time in 2016!

Take it from the Thirsty Irish Runners, it's more fun when you run together!  Hear what their team of 30 had to say about Pam's Run:

"An absolutely perfect New England fall weekend graced runners who toed the starting line at Pam's Run 2016. The 10K course is a great run through tree-lined residential roads and then down a dirt road past an area known as Duck Pond Farm. There was a nice incline at the fourth mile marker which challenged the legs a bit and then another quick uphill sprint was in the final mile. A great race for a running club or individual runner looking to tackle a fall 10k on a very nice course!"

Whether your goal is to walk our 5k or run our 10k, start your team today and share with us using hashtag #pamsrunNB
Neighbor Brigade supports communities.
Pam's Run is Neighbor Brigade's largest annual fundraiser which allows us to continue supporting people throughout New England who are experiencing a temporary crisis.  In 2016 our volunteers helped 3,405 individuals and completed approximately 6,000 service hours in their communities; that adds up to over 16 hours of service every single day of the year!  Recently one of our recipients wrote these beautiful words of gratitude: "Each time a meal arrives, my eyes fill with tears of joy, both because of the tangible help each delivery provides and because it is such a loving, personal expression of support. I've been honored to participate with Neighbor Brigade for some years, but never envisioned being on the receiving end of the group's generosity. It is incredible, and I am appreciative beyond words."  To learn more about our impact in your community click here.

Franklin Neighbor Brigade recognizes the Spirit of Volunteer Appreciation Week

Franklin Neighbor Brigade has a couple of shout outs in the Spirit of Volunteer Appreciation week. Thank you to our volunteers for giving and sharing themselves to others!

  • To all our volunteers - April 22nd the Franklin brigade will be receiving an award from the Franklin Senior Center and Council on Aging for our volunteer work with the Senior population.

  • As a fundraiser for the Jefferson Elementary Fifth Grade Celebration, the school's fifth graders sold bags of "Soul Warming Soups," and provided the option of donating a bag of soup to a local charity. With the selling power of the fifth grade students, as well as their generous families and friends, the school donated thirty bags of frozen soup to the Franklin chapter of Neighbor Brigade. More than fifteen families purchased two and four pound bags of soup, and the company generously matched these donations. The students thoroughly embraced the opportunity to raise money for their end-of-year celebration, while participating firsthand in assisting local families in need. Thank you volunteer Jacqui. S. For making this happen! Our recipients are going to be enjoying this soup all winter long.

News from the Franklin Neighbor Brigade

From Linda Gagnon, Franklin chapter leader of the Neighbor Brigade:
"Franklin Neighbor Brigade (NB) is active in the community presently operating with 203 volunteers.
With varying month's of busyness, the brigade handled close to 300 requests this year. Additionally, there have been many extra moments that volunteers went above and beyond for their neighbors. What has been heart warming, is the giving focus especially during the holidays and the extra love to check in on recipients after they have moved out of crisis and adjusting to what we have called "the new normal".
The illustration below shows the kinds of crisis NB takes part in.

"Across the Neighbor Brigade network, we have served 3,210 requests for the year!
We celebrate the impact this has brought to many of our recipient lives including our volunteers who often share like the following statement
"I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate being a volunteer for Neighbor Brigade. The feeling that I get when dropping off a meal, a note, and a little extra cheer has left a mark on me. It has been a great experience for me and also for my children."

Director's Letter

As Neighbor Brigade celebrates our fifth anniversary in 2015, we couldn't be prouder of how far we've come since Pam Manikas Washek first harnessed the power of "neighbors helping neighbors" in 2010. From one small band of Wayland neighbors stepping forward with meals, rides, home visits, pet care and more for families in crisis, Neighbor Brigade now boasts 5,000 volunteers in 29 chapters across eastern Massachusetts from Charlestown and Needham to North Attleboro and West Bridgewater. Our chapters not only step forward year-round in times of immediate crisis, but as you will see below many of our chapters have initiated gift-collections and food drives for families and individuals that need a little extra support over the holidays. These spontaneous acts of kindness by our chapters - over and above our core mission - give us further resolve to continue strengthening Neighbor Brigade for many years to come.
We are at an important junction for the organization. In the first half of 2016 we hope to launch new chapters across Massachusetts and beyond, broadening our service area to help neighbors in need. But to do this we need your help. With each new chapter funding is even more critical to sustain and grow our programs: Donations support our software platform, chapter leader support and outreach materials, staffing, and other necessities down to office supplies and technical support. Your donation to our upcoming annual appeal will ensure the continuation of Pam Washek's vision for the growth of Neighbor Brigade as a household name.
We are grateful to the individuals and corporation that stepped forward to support our Pam's Run event back in October, and we hope you consider a renewed gift this holiday season to keep our programs running at full speed.
Wishing you happy and healthy holidays,
Stephanie Lawrence
