#LOVEfranklin: quick update RE: the emergency shelter in Franklin

To those who #LOVEfranklin:

Here’s your quick update RE: the emergency shelter in Franklin. A few more families have arrived. The Franklin Interfaith Council (FIC) is beginning to think long-term hospitality and distribution of donations.

All persons placed at the shelter are being signed up for SNAP benefits, Mass Health, and school quickly. The Town staff has worked hard to hone this process and it is working smoothly.

As people are signed up for essential services, our focus is shifting to welcome, hospitality, and community—social well-being. We are continuing to organize volunteers for an after-school program. Contact Rev. Kathy McAdams for details.

Also in the works from the FIC are Intake/Hospitality bags (to meet the   immediate needs of people when they arrive), a discretionary fund for   transportation via GATRA, and a weekly communal meal. We’ll release more
information about these opportunities once details are firmed up and we
get the final go-ahead from the town.

Attached to this email you will find the updated donation/volunteer flyer (.pdf and .jpeg versions).

NOTE: we’ve provided more details about where to drop off donations as there has been some confusion. Clothing can be dropped off on the back porch of the parsonage of Franklin Federated Church (183 Main Street); and, for those who don’t know, St. Rocco Square is the side entrance (off of Church Street) to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Thank you for being part of this long-term effort to support the evolving needs of those being placed in the Emergency Shelter in Franklin!

Feel free to share this information; and, if others would like to be added to this distribution list, have them email  info@franklininterfaith.org.

Peace
Jacob

Town of Franklin's Municipal Aggregation Program Update

This is a reminder that the Town of Franklin's new 24-month contract with energy consultant Colonial Power Group and renewable electricity supplier Dynegy Energy Services will commence in November.  The new fixed rate is 15 cents per kilowatt-hours (kWh) and is slated to begin with the November 2023 meter reads and end with the November 2025 meter reads. The change will be reflected in ratepayers' December 2023 bill.
Municipal Aggregation Program
Municipal Aggregation Program

Residents and business owners who are currently enrolled in Franklin's Community Choice Power Supply Program will be automatically enrolled in the program when the new contract takes effect in November, and will not need to take any action to continue to participate. Also note, anyone currently enrolled should have received a postcard from the Town of Franklin c/o Colonial Power in early October containing information about the new rate + term along with a notice regarding automatic enrollment.  A link to the postcard is also available here.

Residents and business owners who are not currently enrolled in the program will need to Opt In if interested in participating. Opt In instructions are available on the Municipal Aggregation webpage, and also included in a Public Notice which was recently released by Colonial Power Group, and linked here.

If you would like to confirm if you are currently enrolled, simply look at your electric bill under "Supply Services".  If Dynegy Energy Services is named as your Supplier, you are enrolled with the Town's Municipal Aggregation Program. Or, call Dynegy directly at (866) 220-5696.

All consumers are able to opt in or opt out at any time and as often as desired. There are no fees for enrollment or cancelation, however, anyone with a supplier block on their account must contact National Grid to request that the block be removed to participate in Franklin's Community Choice Power Supply program, and anyone switching from a contract with a third-party supplier may be subject to penalties or early termination fees charged by that supplier.

Please refer to the following resources for more detailed information:

For questions regarding billing or enrollment status, residents and business owners must contact Dynegy Energy Services directly by calling (866) 220-5696 or by visiting colonialpowergroup.com/franklin.

FHS football, volleyball & field hockey teams post wins on Thursday

Via Twitter and our subscription to HockomockSports.com, we share the results of the fall sports competition for Franklin High School on Thursday, Oct 5, 2023.

Football = Taunton,27 @ Franklin, 28 - Final
1st Quarter: No scoring.
2nd Quarter: (F) Justin Bianchetto 15-yard pass to Derek Dubriske, Arnav Dhulipati XP good; (F) Andrew Fraulo 5-yard rush, A. Dhulipati XP good; (T) Ethan Harris 44-yard rush, Trinley Dudley XP good.

4th Quarter: (F) A. Fraulo 1-yard rush, A. Dhulipati XP good; (F) J. Bianchetto 4-yard pass to Kyle Walsh, A. Dhulipati XP good.

Ryan Lanigan, founder and Editor-in-Chief of HockomockSports.com, provides the game narrative:
"Just before Franklin’s offense took the field with just over two minutes to go and a six-point deficit on the scoreboard, junior kicker Arnav Dhulipati told classmate Kyle Walsh that if the Panthers finished the drive, he’d deliver the game-winning extra point.
Walsh and the Franklin offense did their part in the form of a 12-play, 66-yard drive that culminated in a 4-yard touchdown catch from Walsh on a pass from junior Justin Bianchetto with just five seconds left to tie the game.

And Dhulipati did exactly what he said as he booted the point after attempt through the uprights to hand Franklin a thrilling 28-27 comeback on Thursday night.

Taunton nearly ended the game on a deflected pass right after the Panthers entered the red zone, but Franklin took advantage of its second chance. An 11-yard pass from Bianchetto (29-for-50, 279 yards, two touchdowns) to Derek Dubriske — who held on despite a thunderous hit — moved Franklin inside the 10-yard line. A quick pass to Owen Scarborough gained four more yards down to the 8-yard line and took three seconds off the clock."
