On December 1, Concerts on the Common will have Santa arriving on the Franklin Fire Truck and the lighting of the trees. 

Time is 4:00 PM. 

Santa will be welcomed by Mike the DJ who will entertain the children with games and music. 

Santa will give gifts to the children. Goodies and milk will be available.

Thanks to the Franklin High School hockey team who will have decorated the Common on November 30th with wreathes made by Hillside Nurseries

As many are aware, I do a lot of walking around Franklin and that helps me to find out what is going on. Sometimes I am in the right place at the right time (think train stuck on the Union St. tracks this week). Sometimes, I find something that is filed for future use or more research. I call all this activity  "reporting by walking around."

One such walk found the signs set up around the former Charter School (former St Mary's School) announcing the electronics recycling event scheduled for November 16. This event will also recycle bicycles.

When: Saturday, November 16 from 9 AM to 2 PM
Where: school parking lot at corner of Main and Pleasant Streets

The warrant for Needham’s Town Meeting in May 2017 was 122 pages long and included 65 articles.

In addition to major zoning bylaws limiting residential development and a proposal to ban recreational marijuana stores, the warrant included a pair of articles to fund construction of a new $15 million public pool that would narrowly pass.

A year after she was elected to the state Legislature, Sen. Rebecca Rausch, D-Needham, remembered participating in the pool debate during that Town Meeting – her first as an elected local representative – and said it set the course for the start of her career on Beacon Hill.

“I continue to come back to that as a great example of why elections matter, representation matters and local government matters,” she said. “Many people think of Needham as an exclusively affluent town, and the exclusivity part of that is just not true – plenty of people can’t afford to join a country club, which was one of the arguments that was made.”

MassBay Community College said it will hold its annual fall open house at 9 a.m. next Saturday, Nov. 16.

Registration starts at 8:15 a.m.

College President David Podell along with faculty, staff and students will be on hand to greet and welcome prospective students and their families to the Wellesley Hills campus, 50 Oakland St.

The open house is an opportunity for prospective students to meet and talk with current students, faculty and staff to learn about the 70 degree and certificate programs offered at MassBay and transfer opportunities.

Weekends  September 7 – November 24

"Bus shuttles will replace Franklin Line service between Forge Park/495 and Readville Stations while we upgrade the signal system as part of Positive Train Control (PTC) work. Also during this work, connecting train service between Readville and South Station will be on the Fairmount Line. There will be no Franklin Line service at Ruggles or Back Bay."

"The Franklin Agway is sponsoring the first market, so if food vendors sign up for the season by Nov 18th we will pay for the first market.
(We are willing to pay for all vendors first market fee, so if people vendors say they saw it in Franklin Matters then they can get the deal too.)"

Fairmount Fruit Farm would like to welcome you to our first ever winter farmers market! This is a great opportunity for you to get your business noticed, meet new people and really expand your horizons. There will be beer and wine tastings for ages 21+ from local wineries and breweries added to our market as well!

Below is some basic information regarding our new 6 month market.

What: A winter farmers market where local farms and crafters/vendors can gather together to sell products and network within their community.

Where: Fairmount Fruit Farm located at 887 Lincoln Street, Franklin Ma, 02038 - in one of the heated greenhouses.

When: Saturdays November to April from 10am-2pm. *See dates below.
*Nov 23rd / Dec 21st / Jan 25th / Feb 15th / Mar 21st / Apr 18th

Set-Up Information: Vendors are allowed to start setting up at 9:00am in the greenhouse. Loren or CJ will give you your assigned slot. Please make sure to bring your own tables and chairs, as the farm does not provide any for vendors.
Tents are not required or needed.

Vendors will be allowed to pull their vehicles up to the greenhouse to unload their supplies. Parking will then be provided for vendors in front of the farm stand.

Additional Information: All vendors must show appropriate forms of insurance and any applicable permits they may need.

This is a rain, shine or snow market. In the event of unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather, all vendors will be notified as soon as possible.

We accept all forms of payment (cash, card, checks). Please make all checks payable to Fairmount Fruit Farm. No refunds will be issued. If you pay for the whole season by Nov 18th, your first month will be free and will be sponsored by Franklin Agway.

Newsletter Fall 2019   Relieving hunger. Nourishing lives. Letter from Lynn As I wrap up my first 3 months at the Franklin Food Pantry, I have so much to reflect on, but what stands out to me the most is the welcome and support that I have found within the Franklin community. It's clear to me that the Franklin community recognizes the importance of the Food Pantry. Many Americans are just one job loss or medical crisis away from food insecurity. The Franklin Food Pantry knows this and is here when someone needs us - whether it is for a short time due to a life circumstance, or if it is on an ongoing basis.  We believe that no one should go hungry or need to worry about where their next meal will come from. I am grateful to be working with such an amazing team of staff and volunteers, as well as a supportive community, that believes in supporting their friends and neighbors.  Since January 1, 2019, 119 volunteers have shared over 4,000 hours of their time with us! During this same period, we have distributed 1,308 backpacks to Franklin elementary school children, we have served 467 households representing 1,034 individuals: 164 seniors, 604 adults, and 266 children.  While food insecurity is an ongoing issue for our town, our state, and our country, the people of Franklin should feel proud to know that they are part of the solution.  There are many ways for you to get involved - run with us on Thanksgiving morning, volunteer as a Food Elf (or support one with a donation!), make a financial contribution, shop through AmazonSmile and share our social media posts.  We appreciate the support the community has shown us, and we could not do it without you. If you have questions or would like to get more involved with us, please feel free to reach out to me.
